they will be like the clippers of ny..... nobodys gonna want to see the Brooklyn nets over the knicks... they should stay in newark, move to seattle, the knicks own nyc. they will completely fail in brooklyn even with the little fans they have in nj. who is going to commute through Manhattan to get to Brooklyn. Las Vegas nets sounds ok.

brooklyn is an important borough, brooklyn alone will give the nets the fanbase it never had in new jersey.

I'm still curious about what fans the Nets will be gaining when they move to Brooklyn.

i think they'll always be also rans. they're moving into a knicks neighborhood. fans there will still be knicks fans - MSG is still on TV and the Garden is a half hour away from Brooklyn on the subway.

the Clippers play in the SAME ARENA as the Lakers and will always be also rans. no one cares about these teams. the Nyets drew 1000 fans in the dead of winter last year. that's sad. that probably won't happen in Brooklyn, but they'll never eclipse the Knicks in terms of fan attention.

Really depends on how good they become. Imagine for example if the Nets had moved to Brooklyn a decade ago, and Kidd was leading the Brooklyn Nets to repeat Finals. As a Brooklyn resident, I would've been hardpressed not to root for a hometown team like that, that was fun to watch and played hardnosed D. They'll still never be the #1 team ever, but they can grow a fanbase for sure.

But if they just suck for two decades straight, then yes, they will always be the Clippers of the city.

there’s TONS of borough pride in brooklyn. i think there will be a lot of family and less-hardcore b-ball fans that will go. plus by the time they’re in there we'll be elite and you won't be able to SMELL a ticket to msg

the nets wont be hurting for fans, what they will try is build on that momentum with key wins and a competitive rivalry. thats where things will get interesting. only ones who will suffer is fat francesa, mad dog; they never cared much for nba ball. there will definitely be openings in ny sports radio to handle the spiked interest in nba hometown talk. ultimateknicks radio has a nice ring to it.

Doesn't matter what they do. Trot out Dr. J. Free borscht and vodka nights. Hire Buck Williams as head coach. Go to the finals and lose a few more times. Build a NetsCenterKremlin at battery park. They are a 2nd rate franchise. 2nd rate team.
Doesn't matter how deep into a funk or what amount of back page stupidity Knicksdom has to endure.
Go get one ring at least, and then we maybe can start talking Yankees/Mets, Giants/Jets.

We are the better, more storied franchise.

The Nets started out in Long Island, then moved to New Jersey and now to Brooklyn. Where will they go next? My guess is Westchester.

I think a lack of vision and potential is why many fail.

Like those who thing the Nets past is extropolated to the future.

First off the Lakers are perhaps along with the Celtics the most successful franchise.

Hands down the most in the last 20 years. Knicks don' thave that kind of hold on NYers.

Second is Clipps have been owned by the same fool. That fool actually paid off his debt and owns the team outright and actually makes money. As a fan one don't care but a fool that makes money is better than a fool who loses.

Nets are like an expansion team when they come to brooklyn. They suck. There fans were never bound to them in Jersey and the success they had has really waned. If they become a winning franchise then people will take interest. They will build support in NY. THere is a whole generation who think the knicks are losers and were not alive when the golden era of the 1990's was in play. They are free agents. Not old school who have knicks in their hearts from the true golden era of 1969-1974.

Long Island has how many people? QUeens? Brooklyn? How many people around the country can lay claim to some Brooklyn ties? Russias team also.

If they beocme formatable.

New ownership with cap space and draft picks can't hurt. Panicking to starphuck could.

"NETS SUCK AND ALWAYS WILL" is foolish. They Suck now, but don't be stupid to think it stays that way cuz of the past.

If you go on that basis, so do we!

i can see brooklyn from my house (and russia) dont know why the mlb teams left, but brooklyn has lots of new high rises, the money is there.

and if all the boroughs were seperate cities, brooklyn would be the largest.

Knicks definitely have the tonier address: 7th Ave versus Atlantic Ave. But is that enough? I don't know. Like implied upthread, there is a whole generation of kids who laugh when someone talks about the Knicks because they've been a joke since they were in grammar school. Nets luck out and get a Kobe type of player they could snatch up those kids onto the bandwagon and be a real problem.

I'm really interested in what the Nets do. Do they embrace a Brooklyn identity? Or do they become co-clamaints to the name "New York"?

I think that they'll do the latter because hell, I can imagine down the BQE in Queens there folks who wouldn't support them because they are BK haters. But they might join Brooklyn Industries, Brooklyn Brewery, and Brooklyn Decker and bank on the marketing sizzle of that name.

Even if they do become the New York Something-or-other, you know they'll have a Brooklyn alternate jersey, and as long as they don't make it tie-dye, you'll probably see those jerseys more than a Knicks jersey.

As for ownership, I like theirs better than ours. But I haven't seen Dolan jetski.

There was a great documentary on TV a couple years ago called "Brooklyn Dodgers: The Ghosts of Flatbush," it goes into some of the reasons. The main reasons IMHO is that the owners wanted new stadiums because the Polo Grounds & Ebbets Field weren't cutting it, and they couldn't get them replaced... some blame Robert Moses. Then SF & LA successfully wooed those teams so they could be true "major league" American cities.

I agree, and I don't agree.

In the near term, there's no way the Nyets will draw a fan base comprised of NYK fans. But down the road, if the Knicks don't build a title contender and the Nyets do, then I could see in ten or fifteen years the Nyets becoming the new top team in NYC. Ditto for LA. But I am talking down the road and after a monumental turn of events.

Of course, the chances of all of that happening are basically nill.

My dad would've beaten me if I was a Nets fan. That gets passed down from generation to generation. (I don't have kids--yet)
