NEW YORK KNICKS
It's the dawn of a new era in New York, but don't expect playoff basketball to come to Madison Square Garden this season.
Scoutspeak

” "[Amare] Stoudemire's not worth $100 million, and everybody's worse without Steve Nash, but the ball will touch his hands enough for him to put up the same numbers he always has. But he wouldn't guard a plate of food if he was starving. Even so, I like him and Anthony Randolph on the front line. Randolph can be a star. The way Don Nelson treated him in Golden State was borderline criminal."

"I don't think the Knicks' guards are good enough for them to make the playoffs. I don't like Ray Felton at all. He's a streak shooter whose decision-making is horrendous. He's not a true point guard, he's more of a combo, and he's not a great athlete to boot. And you can't make adjustments on the fly with Ray, because his basketball IQ's not high enough. I don't like D'Antoni either. One of their players told me they've gone months without discussing defense in practice."

Best-case scenario: "34, 35 wins and miss the playoffs."

Worst-case scenario: "32, 33 wins."

--------------------------------------------

Ok i won't blame anyone for guessing we don't make the playoffs. That is fine with me. But it is pretty rediculous when our BEST CASE SCENARIO is that we don't make the playoffs and only win 34-35 games tops. I would clearly say our best case scenario (stop me if i sound completely crazy and unrealistic) is that we make the playoffs at a low seed (6-8) and finish slightly above or at .500. Once again, it is okay if people don't think we are making the playoffs and we only are going to win 34 or 35 games, but to say our best case scenario is still not making the playoffs and finishing well under .500 is just plain stupid. If it was ever clear how much ESPN hated us, this is it.

What a douche, not just because he wrote that high school preview, but everything he said lacks any real research..

He must not have watched Felton take UNC to the championship.

You have to love a complete idiot who's "worst case scenario" is one win off his "best case scenario".

I love these freaking Jackoffs. year in and year out they slam the Knicks preseason and fans get all pissy.

Then in retrospect they have been more correct than fans.

As far as anyone can see this is a likely and accurate prediction.

But, This team can does have more upside than previous ones so we have to tune in and see what happens!

Yup, he's spot on the best case scenario, but worst case happens if Stoudemires injures his knee again and the Knicks barely win 20 !

yea man... someone got a check for writing that fodder. Any number of short bus riding 14 year olds from realgm could have done a better job. There is ZERO basketball knowledge in there. I'm fine w/ saying Knicks will stink, the reasons why are beyond lame

The guessing is supposed to be EDUCATED! He's giving his opinions supposedly based on having watched the players he's scouting and whether they'll be good together. He basically dumped on every single part of what we put together. Felton got bashed as being stupid basically. The knock on Mike was about what you expect to hear, but people need to know that he's not the only coach that is slanted towards offense and that shouldn't be a dirty word. His style is to play efficient and hard to stop offense and do just enough on D to win. Other coaches take the opposite approach and some play it down the middle. As long as you win, it really doesn't matter.

I think it was easy to doubt this team because there were so many unknowns. What I based my pick on is that we've watched this team and knew that Gallo, Chan and TD were good players. Add to that a Superstar and a very good PG and that already is a good team right there. I felt even before the season that this team was going to be much improved on D and it's funny that this guy didn't pick up on that. We kept our best defenders and then added more size and athletic ability. Everyone we added had a good rep for playing D, so IMO he totally missed that observation. My main point is that these guys do sloppy work and just go off the same well known assumptions without doing any real research.

The writer should've known that Felton was known to the D'Antoni's and that he played best in an uptempo system in college. Stuff like that.

This is typical national media new york knicks hate. Stat could score a billion points and we'd still get reported after the hockey scores, golf previews and Venus Williams' tummy tuck surgery.

What they are saying is that the Knicks got all this new talent including an All-star in his prime, and still won't get any better. Real fan boy stuff there.

I've been watching sports for over 30 years. Waht have I learned? That sports writers are wrong more often then I am. Most of them could not diagram a play if they were tracing the play you just diagrammed and a lot of them get their "educated" guesses from the other sportswriters next to them, that also got it wrong.

This is true! It's sad to say, but there are very few writers that know there stuff and aren't lemmings, that just spout the same stuff they've heard from others.

The only real suprise to me is amare's dedication to become a better help defender and feltons Outside shot. Ironiccally both aspects of there improve game has been wonderful to watch..

I knew for sure that felton would be putting up all star #s in this system..our unsuspecting role players have also been key...all of the issue we thought we had (outside shooting, rebounding, and the P/R) haven't been much of a problem...

Hard work and dedication! You can't get better unless you really want to. This team has stepped up and shown that they want to be good and they're playing unselfish and fighting hard on D. You can also see that they're pulling for each other. Goes back to DW and MDA hand picking the kind of players they felt would make for a professional and dedicated roster.
