Mozgov will be center of attention, will start against Celtics »
BY FRANK ISOLA

Timofey Mozgov is expected to start Wednesday against the Boston Celtics at MSG, a move that could be permanent depending on how the rookie center performs for the remainder of the preseason.

Hopefully, Doc Rivers will start Shaquille O'Neal that night because it will give everyone - Mozgov, Mike D'Antoni, Knick fans - a chance to see Mozgov compete against a solid, albeit aging, NBA center.

The challenge for Russian is staying out of foul trouble, which will not be easy against O'Neal. Mozgov is a skilled big man but he is also a human foul machine. Against Minnesota last week, he fouled out in 15 minutes.

With Ronny Turiaf seen as nothing more than a back-up and Eddy Curry not in the D'Antoni's plans, the Knicks would love to see Mozgov emerge as a player capable of giving them 25 to 30 minutes a night.

If not, the Knicks other option may be to start Amar'e Stoudemire at center a la David Lee. The Knicks would have a huge advantage on offense but would be extremely vulnerable on the defensive end.

He's our best true 5 and he has some nice talent--but is he ready to start in the NBA? I think hes going to have 3 fouls faster than we can spell the word foul. Hopefully that is not the case. We need help @ the 5--we have to acquire someone else for depth. I think Ronnie T is not a viable choice for this particular team. Maybe a different type of team wouldnt mind trading for Ronnie so we could move out that 4mm. Heck Jeff Adrien had a game yesterday that Turriaf could only dream of rebounding wise and hes being paid 400k or less than 1/10 of RT

Im really surprised we dont bring back Barron--I really thought that was a given. A 7 footer who can rebound and hit the mid range jump shot very well--I mean he should have a spot in the rotation here.
Im in the group that believes Turriaf is not a rotation player for this type of basketball

Didn't Barron price himself out of the Knicks price range? They offered him a contract and he declined I believe.

He would reply back but he is 9 yrs old and his bedtime is 6pm. Maybe tomorrow.

fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

Either that or its Turiaff who in't happy about losing the starting job. Mozzy is probably playing it safe with the Knicks, can't blame him rather play it safe then get set for a let down.

I hope shaq doesn't play, tim fouled in 15 minuts. The current record is 9 minutes, i have a feeling he will break that record this season.

Timo's fouls tend to be reaching out to try and slow down smaller players and stepping out on the perimeter. He's a bit aggressive going after shots, but in the post he's not a foul machine. It's when he's out away from the post and can't avoid guards who use their quickness to run into him and get an easy foul call. If he's in the paint he's less prone to those bad fouls.

I think in against real bigs he'll do much better than a smaller quicker team. Besides this is the time to get him reps to learn how to play without fouling so this is a good thing not a bad thing. Once he learns to move his feet and not reach with his hands he'll be fine. This is the best Center prospect we've had in terms of a defensive presence and all some can think about is adding Earl Barron or some loser to the roster. If he fouls out he fouls out, but let him learn and develop. He just might get it and then we'll have a really great situation at C and PF.

If Timofey Mozgov can play at a Robin Lopez/Joakim Noah level, this team jumps to the next level of being a LEGIT Playoff contender.

On a side note, I'm really hoping Kelenna Azubuike is healthy and has enough time during Training Camp to win the starting SG spot. We can easily slide Wilson Chandler to SF and bring Danilo Gallinari off the bench where he belongs.

and you started off your post so well... You're out of your mind if you think there's any chance of Gallo going to the bench! This guy is a starter. You can't judge him solely on what you've seen so far and think that's it. I think without a doubt that he'll be our 2nd leading scorer this year and post solid rebounding as well as a couple of assists. You want to bring a near 7'er that can shoot the lights out and has the ability to play anywhere on the court off the bench? How about we see if he can get more midrange and post plays this year with more minutes.
