While there's a new thread in place, any thoughts on how Carmelo compares to Kevin Durant?
Durant, based on his regular season scoring title, strong performance against Kobe in the playoffs, and his dominance in the FIBA WC tournament... may have cemented himself as the #1 SF in the game, perhaps leapfrogging Lebron and Melo in the process.
Carmelo's claim to fame is that he led Syracuse to an NCAA title as a freshman. Oh, and that he "led" the Nuggets to the conference finals a year ago (like Durant, in a loss to Kobe).
Both of them shot woeful FG%'s against the Lakers.
Durant is notably taller, longer limbed, seemingly more athletic, a purer shooter (as evidenced by his 90% FT%). Carmelo is seemingly a more rugged inside player (when he wants to be). So, assuming we believe Durant is the superior player, how far behind is Carmelo... and likewise, how far behind is Gallo behind both of them? And... with more polish and experience, can Gallo close the gaps?
I like Melo as a player - but will acquiring him NOW appreciably increase our chances of winning a title this year vs having a Knicks team with all the pieces we'd lose in the process?
