Boston didn't hesitate to trade their young talent to get Allen and KG result a championship and a trip to the finals. Same with Miami they dropped Odoms and Butler to get a shot at Shaq on his last leg. Result trip to ECF and a Championship. You get Melo here and I'm willing to part with AR and Gallo for him if push came to shove. I understand a lot of you want to wait until he is a FA but if Denver trades him signed sealed and delivered to a team other than NYK you guys are going to kick yourself for passing up on an opportunity to get a high profile star that is going into his prime. I don't disagree entirely, but I think in this league you need three all star pieces now-- not two. Right now we have 1) one all star player in Amare, 2) two potential all star caliber players in Gallo and Randolph and 3) enough expiring contracts to sign another all star player outright in 2011 (or via trade at the deadline). If everything goes right, players develop, and we use the cap wisely, we can have four all star caliber players by next year or the year after. Alternatively, we might be able to sell the farm now and be guaranteed two all stars and no draft picks. For me, as much as I like the idea of Melo in NY wearing blue and orange, I think that selling the farm for him as though he was the only pony at the show is a mistake. You can quote me here when Gallo's back blows up again and Randolph's not yet mature frame gives out after 60 games (or when they simply don't develop any further), but I think that we can have a serious contender in a year or two. I think that Amare and Melo alone doesn't win a chip. We will get an all star with the free agent money next year anyway, so why give up two potential all stars? P.S. Somewhat off topic, but would you really want the Knicks doing training camp in Milan w/o Gallo? The locals might piss in the Knicks' pasta... You know I gonna spin wit it

![]() I don't think you guys understand windows of opportunity. They close very fast in the NBA. Just as Randolph's and Gallo's windows will open Amare's will start to close. You have to take advantage of your superstars window of opportunity.

Yeah, that's ridiculous. Do you think Walsh had Bayless in for a double-secret workout before the draft? I don't think so. |

![]() "This is a no brainer you get Melo here ASAP."
There is no "no brainer" situation where you go after the all star without calculating everything. It is essential to try and figure out how Melo fits into D'Antoni's style of play and whether or not Melo would even accept playing for the Nets, instead of the Knicks. I believe the Knicks start its 3 front court talents and try to figure out as quickly as possible what they have. I also think Melo wants to play with Amare, and therefore he will wait a reasonable period of time before pulling the trigger and settling somewhere else. Meanwhile, the Knicks need to find out how well Gallinari and Randolph fit with Amare and Felton. Blinding cashing in your young talent for Melo simply because he is a superstar, would in my opinion be a no brainer" of a different type. |

![]() Dont worry we will keep Randolph and Gallo just long enough for their value to deteriorate then we will be stuck with them.

![]() rvwink wrote:"This is a no brainer you get Melo here ASAP." Word, as in "having no brain". If they trade Gallo + AR + Curry + pick(s) for Melo, they should have their heads examined. He will be a FA after this season. Let's not wear our Isaiah hats just yet... |
