Successful Trade Scenario
Congratulations on a successful trade.
Due to New York and Denver being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. New York and Denver had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

I would pass on this. I think that JR is capable of jacking up a ton of 3s though I just don't see his mental state working with Coach D'antoni's.

In a trade with Carmelo, I would think pretty hard about it, though I don't really like that trade since Melo can sign for free next year.

You know I gonna spin wit it

JR Smith is IDEAL as a shooter off the bench. I prefer Smith's range to Azuibuke's. Plus Smith might take a discount to play close to home. If we want to compete we are going to have to get some guys who can fill it up off the bench. JR Smith also doesnt mind coming off the bench versus a guy like Rudy who think he deserves to start.

Exactly, 2 gun ho, players in MDA's free flowing system..JR would make nate look like the most discipline player in the league.

Billups leadership is the only reason that team has chemistry, and now they have added Harrington, it's no wonder JR is on the block.

No to JR

Talent, alone, is not enough to be a champion.

The personality mesh must be considered carefully. Give me twelve guys who can have an intelligent conversation - on and off the court.

Pass.

That's a nice thought. Azubuike will be a good fit in our offense, plus he plays good d.

JR Smith is younger and better than Azuibuke.

you got 1 part right, JR is younger. But Buke is a better shooter, rebounder, defender. At half the salary. And a lot less of a knucklehead.

So why does Smith have better stats across the board?

Azuibuke: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/azubuke01.html

Smith: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/smithjr01.html

Look at Smith's TS%. You yourself said that it was a better indicator of someones shooting.

JR Smith is a a very good player. His issue is he needs to be the 3rd or 4th best player on the team. Last year he was Denver's 2nd best player. They put weight on him to help Carmelo carry the team and he cant do that. I compare Smith to Crawford. They make suspect plays but when giving a specific role they can blossom.

Crawford was better than Smith and Chandler is better than both. Pass on Smith. Every time I have seen Smith play he has been erratic.

Why look at Career stats when they havent even been in the league the same amount of years. Azuibuke has been in the league for only 4 years. Plus Azuibuke stats for last year are SUPER skewed because he played a total of 9 games.

Nice try though.

career stats would negate the 9 game total. These are not yearly averages, these are cumulative stats.

Or did you not understand that?

how else would you compare the 2 players cause you are the one put out the comparison. Did you just want to pick out 1 year and make that particular year the benchmark?

You are right they are cumulative.

I still think you are reaching with those stats. Smith takes almost twice as many 3's as Azuibuke and still shoots solid percentages. As we know shooting percentages dont necessarily scale with more shot attempts.

Azuibuke is really only a SG in size. He plays like a SF to me. Smith can play SG or SF and hasnt had a major injury. I will admit Azuibuke is the better rebounder and defender. If we only care about that then Chandler should be starting at SG.

I like AZ and coveted the guy when he was on GS. He's got the right kind of game for MDA. As i've said before, he's a perfect match for what Raja Bell used to be for Mike in PHX. Sharp shooting, tough defender, rebounds and has speed and athletic ability the equal of a guy like JR. He's just not a nut. He plays under control and I think with more minutes he'll be just as efficient. There's something to be said about mature, well adjusted and smart players filling up your roster. That's what Mike had in PHX and what he and Donnie have tried to do here. Just look at the players we've brought in and they not only have talent, but they have their heads screwed on right too. NO MORE DRAMA!
