Melo is a natural 3....you can't excape that fact. He shouldn't be asked to do what Wilson does and play shooting guard....with that said Gallo or Randolph has to go as well to give Carmelo his starting spot at the 3....last time I checked Amare is the 4 and Randolph can play all 4 front court spots....Gallo is the one that is gonna have to leave. You guys ready for that?
By the way....Eddy, Gallo, Wilson and the second round picks for Carmelo works and that's the Knicks best offer...would you do that?
I don't think Denver would want TD as they have Billups and Lawson at PG. I think EnySpree's trade is the most likely, and it's fair for them- however, the problem is in getting Denver to accept it's a fair deal- in most cases when a team is about to lose their franchise player for nothing, they go into a state of denial, and start building up all these defences ("They're not going to leave!", "We'll never trade them!"), which leads to them over estimating their bargaining position and expecting to get much more (usually a franchise player) than they have a hope in hell of getting back, which means they refuse to trade them and several months later end up with a trade exemption and a second round pick. Although sometimes you get lucky and the GM is a moron who trades them for much less than they could have got (Pau Gasol, Vince Carter).
I also wonder if we greatly over value Chandler- it seems no other team is remotely interested in him, so he might not have much trade value, regardless of how talented he is.
Would I do that trade... I don't know, it would be difficult- part of me hopes that we could just wait it out til the offseason and then sign him out-right- this has the benefits of keeping all our assets, which could then be traded for picks or players who fit better, it also allows us to keep Gallo (though Carmelo would have to play SG then, which I don't know whether it's possible- it's just I think they'd play well together after that duel they had last season and Carmelo came away with a great respect for him as a player), and finally it means we'd get to see the new CBA before we signed him- extending him before then is a huge risk if they end up implementing a hard cap, or reducing player salaries etc- with Amar'e and Carmelo on $20 mil per year we could end up being screwed cap wise.
However, I guess we might have trouble keeping Gallo AND AR long term, so if you then also add Carmelo, then one of them probably has to go, and Gallo would make more sense than AR. Shame, as I think Gallo thinks that he's a Knick for life.
