Coney Island basketball star Lance Stephenson - a second-round Indiana Pacers pick in the June NBA draft - was busted Sunday for pushing his girlfriend down a flight of stairs, cops said.

Stephenson, 19, a legendary player at Brooklyn's Abraham Lincoln High School, roughed up Jasmine Williams, 21, in the stairwell of her Brooklyn apartment building about 5 a.m., according to police.

The 6-foot-5 rookie point guard's blows sent Williams tumbling head-first down 10 steps, requiring her to be treated at a hospital for injuries to her head and neck, cops said.

Stephenson, who played one year at Cincinnati before getting drafted 40th overall by the Pacers, was hit with a charge of third-degree assault. He was awaiting arraignment last night.

He had been considered a first-round talent but dropped to the second round due to off-the-court issues, including a 2008 bust for sexually abusing a 17-year-old girl inside of Lincoln High School.

Damn son....but yo he's 19. We all go through stuff like this. He's a professional athlete so he should have known better or his people should have advised him about being in Brooklyn staircases at 5am. Smdh....hope he gets through this and continues his career

He deserves a second chance. He is only 19 years old. He should have known better. Look at Chris Brown his careen is just about gone. Look years ago men would kick their womans ass and it wouldn't be a bleep in the news. Don't the NBA have classes on this stuff.

All I'm saying is he's a kid. This women probably is his first girlfriend. I'm assuming they were arguing in the staircase and he probably accidentally pushed her. She didn't clear the steps cuz most building steps in Brooklyn has 13. If he pushed her or threw her she would have ate the floor.

Regardless all young people go through this type of thing. He just happened to be the one to have this happen.

All this bull**** about not hitting a woman sounds good if you looking for Brownie points somewhere. Truth is some women like to run their mouths and hit guys. A 19 year old is not ready for that type if thing. I have been there plenty of times. The way I would have handled it when I was 19 is different from 30.

I'm sorry I'm not part of the in crowd that condemns the kid for this. Yes I hope he gets through this. I'm sure charges will be dropped if she gets a check.

Stephenson just looks so talented at times on the basketball court. I hope that this isn't as bad as it sounds, but it sounds pretty dang bad.

Getting in an adult argument is one thing, but there is a lot of room between an argument that gets out of control and pushing a girl down a set of steps. If that's what really happened then I have a hard time believing that he'll get back into the league. Not soon at least and not in Indiana where they are image conscious.

Sad. Many...many teenagers would love to have this kids talent.

I have two daughters. One day in kindergarten the youngest one came home
with bruises on the back of her legs. Young boy sitting behind her kicked her
while she was sitting in the desk. I had a few incoherent moments.

I started going to school to drop her off. Days later another young boy hit another girl
right in front of me. I moved in between them until a teacher came along to handle it.

Honor and chivalry are pretty much dead.

had a feeling this kid was raising red flags in Walsh's eyes... based on talent he was easily worthy of 1st round selection, but Walsh musta felt he was too much of a knucklehead to take a risk on... seems like his concerns may have been warranted.

It takes two to tango....as a man, you walk away. A 19 year old is compelled to confront a female just so he can tell her how much if a bitch she is. As a grown man you know not to go there and walk away.

I don't think this woman was minding her own business when the big macho man came along and pushed her down the stairs yelling "take that!". Come on now. He shouldn't have been theRe at no 5am arguing with her. But he's 19. I'm just glad she had minor injuries. This could be way worse.

c'mon dude. most men have the physical advantage over most women anyway. this dude is a 6'5" 210lb professional athlete. whether or not that woman was talking ****, or hitting him, he had the strength to physically subdue her without beating on her or throwing her down the stairs. not to mention, he always has the option of walking away.

i don't get the age angle either. i don't think it bears any relevance. sure a 19 year old is less mature, but this is a deep-seated moral character issue. people should inherently know that it's not right to physically attack someone who is at a great physical disadvantage and poses no legitimate threat to them.
