Four-Team Trade On The Verge Of Completion

Aug 11, 2010 1:16 PM EST
The Hornets, Rockets, Pacers and Nets are on the verge of a four-team trade, according to a report from Chad Ford.

Darren Collison and James Posey would be sent to Indiana, Trevor Ariza would go to New Orleans, Courtney Lee would go to Houston, while New Jersey would receive Troy Murphy.

The deal is in the advanced stages, according to sources.

I guess this is not fully written out. Houston got Ariza $6M going out and only Courtney Lee $1+ coming in and they are over cap.

i don't know enough about any of these teams rosters to really comment on what type of impact this move has. thought it is interesting to see the Hornets get rid of Collison. i think the Pacers win this deal.

man, i'll be bummed if this trade goes through. We couldn't make New Orleans a better offer than Trevor Ariza? What about Wilson?

Not only do they get rid of Collison, they take on extra years of Ariza's contract.

This doesn't past the smell test for me.

I think Troy is an expiring. He is over priced but a double double machine.

Posey is a dump so thy take on his salary for Collison. Good move.

Not a block buster for anyone but its small deals that add up for teams either by aquiring assets that can be traded to fill a need.

We were so used to Isiah's Starphuching collection of high priced morons and Walsh's dumps we forget how good moves can add up when done properly.

Reezy is a very good player at a decent price.

Hornets are going to try to keep CP3? Looks that way or have a plan.

If Im NO, I try to get a deal with Minny (not gonna happen) to get a point, a big and rights to Rubio for CP3.

Maybe Rubio next year as understudy to Felton makes sense. For us that is.

NJ has officially gone off the deep end. The same with the Hornets.

Frankly I would have given them Chandler for Posey and Collison. NO is one of the worst run teams out there how that makes them better I don't know.

That's a nice deal for the Pacers though.

I guess we massively over estimated Collinsons value- wow! And to think we thought he was only obtainable if you took OK4's contract- good job we aren't GM of the Knicks! Great deal for the Pacers, amazingly stupid move for the Hornets- they should have kept Collinson as insurance in case they lose CP- or at least got a much better player than Ariza. Good move for Rockets too. I don't understand the trade at all from the Nets perspective- wouldn't of minded Murphy as a one season back up on our team though (only for his shooting and rebounding- I'd only of offered Curry)- don't see how he fits into the Nets plans.

I don't know- there must be more to this trade, surely- it doesn't make that much sense as it stands.

Well this means they are keeping Paul and they got back Ariza. I assume New Orleans isnt done dealing.

I think we did over estimate Collinsons value a bit. It looks like he will be starting for Indy as they are actively trying to get rid of T.j. Ford

I think this is Larry Birds first good trade! We must have over estimated Collinson, but I still think he's worth more than Ariza- he's one of the very few assets really that the Hornets had- and really Ariza just replaces Posey, so basically unless there's more to this deal they essentially got nothing for him. On the plus side it means no CP trade which means Isiah Thomas can't have any prominant role trying to set it up for us, and so can't use it as a spring board to become GM again! Good news!

wojo/yahoo/marc spears confirm the trade is completed

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=Ai02Jo8YGZEQ.3rIq5VX3sO8vLYF?slug=ys-arizatrade081110

The New Orleans Hornets acquired Trevor Ariza(notes) Wednesday in a four-team, five-player trade that also sends point guard Darren Collison(notes) to the Indiana Pacers, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The deal also sends Pacers forward Troy Murphy(notes) to the New Jersey Nets and Nets guard Courtney Lee(notes) to the Houston Rockets. In addition to landing Collison – the young point guard they’ve been searching for all offseason – the Pacers also have to take on forward James Posey(notes), who has two years and $13.5 million remaining on his contract.

The Rockets signed Ariza to a five-year, $35 million contract a year ago, but have since acquired guard Kevin Martin(notes). Trading him should keep them from paying a substantial luxury-tax bill this season.

After failing to include point guard T.J. Ford in the trade, the Pacers are discussing a buyout with Ford’s agent on the $8.5 million still owed him in the final year of his contract, sources said. The Pacers also are continuing to explore trade opportunities with Ford.

ESPN.com first reported the proposed trade.

if the pacers buy out tj ford, i would love to bring him in to backup felton. i like his ability to run this offense much better than douglas and if you play ford 20 mpg he should flourish.

tj ford is one wrong neck twist away from his career being over. additionally, he has had attitutde problems both in toronto and in indy. why waste your money on a what/if like this?
