Here is one European scout's take on 7-foot-1 Russian center Timofey Mozgov, who signed with the Knicks two days ago: “Not very impressive. The Knicks are one of the few teams that can afford to take chances but I just don’t see it.”

I don't need a euro scout to tell me how bad he is. I saw his youtube clip and that was all I needed to see. I saw a player that has very little skill. His jumper is aweful probably couldn't hit the broad side of the barn with that J. Thank goodness they gave him basically a one year deal.

Seeing that and the news about the ongoing quest for Rudy Fernandez is pretty frustrating.

Fernandez doesn't offer much to us. He hasn't proven anything to the extent of chandler and azubuike. I'm content giving those 2 a chance. There is no one we should give up to get Fernandez.

Rautins for Fernandez is about all I would do.

The game highlights in the other thread were from 1 year ago. From what we saw, Mozgov should have dominated this year, but he didn't. So what is up with this guy? Maybe the scout is correct? Maybe Mozgov is inconsistant? or maybe he was playing injured? Something doesn't add up.

He is going to drill Lebron and jump in the lap of courtside sitting Nets owner.

We got very little at risk with this kid.

That's the key right there. I've read reports like this questioning Mozgov, and I've read reports praising him. Highlights can be fun to watch, but until we see this kid on the floor, none of us know what we have.

With only 1 year guaranteed, I'm excited to see what Donnie saw in him. It's going to be a fun year.

He might get 15-20 MPG tops, more likely 10-15 MPG,and they are probably looking for him to give some hard fouls, convert on some pick and rolls, and provide some blocked shots and rebounds. The fewer the minutes, the more energy he can give us.

If he gives you 5/4/1 I'll be happy. If I see him getting pushed around, I won't be so happy. If he plays like Walsh hopes he will play, the guy will definitely become a crowd favorite.

Just one tool in the toolkit, folks. Amare, Randolf, Turiaf, and maybe Gallo (at PF) will be most of the minutes at the 5 & 4.

You still have to think, though, that Walsh must have seen or heard something about Mosgov which makes you think that he can play a larger role at some point in the future.

He will probably end up with his own UK pre-season thread.

I've seen nothing from this guy. He's never faced contact in his life. He's got no footwork, no shot, doesn't box out, can't play back to the basket. All he can do is be available for an alley oop if no one is near him.

Not trying to dog the guy but he's an absolute project. I wouldn't expect to see him at all for the 1st half of the season at least. Then maybe for 5 mins in blowouts after that.

Thabeet had 23-14-6 blocks tonight and he's considered a scrub--do you think this guy would sniff those numbers if given 30 SL games?

It doesn't matter if our young players aren't fully ready from jump. This is a new day and the team is young and full of talent. Some of that talent will take time to develop, but they have the kind of skills that we're looking for so they fit into our plans and most importantly they are CHEAP. You take talented and cheap any day of the week. Instead of overpriced limited vets, we've got cheap but talent yoots to work with and see how they work out. If they don't we dump em and move on. This is a no lose situation.

will get a ton of minutes. Guys like Timo will only need to hold down 10-15 mins in order for us to be fully effective. I think we'll see a 9 man rotation with Timo getting some play at C. That's just fine. So long as he is a big body that can hold position and intimidate he won't be expected to do much more than that.

the level of competition in those clips is at or below summer league, and I don't think he's ever gotten numbers like that, so I wold have to say no.

I don't know how anyone can compare the talent level Timo played against to SL teams. Just the fact that the teams in the leagues he played in were real teams that had time to train and practice with each other would have to make them more functionally competitive than SL rosters that are thrown together, don't know each other and haven't had any time to learn serious defensive strategy. I'm sorry but I have to disagree with this take. Not to say those leagues have tons of talent, but SL is just a joke.

I dont think he sniffs the court at all this season. I'm thinking he will get Darko'd.

John Wall went 4-19 tonight--someone was good enough to disrupt him

Basically he didn't cost the team a pick. The scouts saw something in this kid they thought warranted a look.

We should applaud the team for stepping out and taking a risk. we talking about potential back up, not thabeet.

And Tatbeet was a top 5 pick, had to cost his team 4 mil, guaranteed. Think Darko without the attitude. At 7'1", he looks mobile and has the ability to block shots, make putbacks and grab boards. With him paying 2 mill to get out of his contract and the Knicks kicking a half mil buyout, he comes to 500k, a bit more than a 2nd round pick. What's not to like?
