Hi everyone. Thought it was time to stop lurking and get into the conversation. I've been a fan since the 70s, haven't been this excited about the team since Marbury was traded from the Suns, hopefully it will turn out better this time.

I'm glad D'antoni is the coach for now, especially with the moves Walsh has made over the summer. Like many of you I believe that defense wins championships but I also believe that SSOL could work in NY with better individual defenders, and now it looks like the Knicks are getting them.

The Suns were one cheap foul (Horry) from the NBA finals so I think its worth a shot. My problem with coach isn't his philosophy but with his implementation of it, namely substitutions. Yeah Q could defend at times but he was also arguably the worst starter in the NBA while he was a Knick. D'antoni early on talked about players earning minutes and I kept wondering what Q did to earn his? He also gave other vets time that should have been given to younger players who needed the seasoning.

But like I said, I believe his system might work and now Walsh has added players who either know this system or look like they have the skills to thrive in it like Randolph, Buke,and maybe Felton. I know Walsh's work isn't done but I am encouraged that he isn't relying on the old quick fix.

couldn't agree w/u more... when guys like Bender were getting playing time over rooks who desperately needed to be seeing minutes, it was a major point that soured me on MDA's coaching decisions last year... Bender did absolutely nothing to earn his playing time last year, the minutes should have gone to the rooks to let them grow & mature... hopefully we won't have to see scrub vets with no future on this team getting minutes over young talent this year.

Thanks a lot TMS. I agree about Bender, I think Walsh had a soft spot for him. At least he didn't sign him to a big contract like Layden did with Eisley and Anderson because they were from Utah. Still, it wasn't his decision where Bender would fit in the rotation. I also hope he doesn't repeat some of his earlier mistakes with regards to retreads over youth. Ive been reading posts here about how the clock is ticking on D'antoni, I agree. He could use the "I don't have enough talent" excuse before but he has enough now to make a legit run at the playoffs.

I've been reading about community posters but I'm not sure what it is, that and Send Closk!

But i believe in guy's earning minutes, bender was a taste test, a vet, and we were a very short team, it would be ridiculous to sit him and not get a solid look at him.

He didn't take long for MDA to relize he sucked or just wasn't ready, i don't recall him playing a heck of a lot after his first 3 weeks back in. Duhon is another story, there was no reason to play him peroid, other then he knew the system better then any pg we had.

The best thing about this squad coming in, it's almost like everyone knows there role before they hit the court, and thats because it's about as balance of a roster i have seen on the knicks since 99.
