I know it is Berman, but:

A league source who has spoken to LeBron James said the biggest reason for The King spurning the Knicks was the prospect of having his and his family's personal lives intruded upon under the intense scrutiny of New York.
"His private life would've been affected too much under the New York microscope," the source said. "He experienced it in the last few weeks. It was out of control."
Judging by his announcement show on ESPN, James likes the spotlight, but not when it intrudes on his family. James' mother wasn't thrilled with a move to Manhattan after seeing photographers camped outside her home twice during the buildup to her son's decision.

"He's used to walking around Akron and nobody bothers him," the source said.

Do people believe this, especially given the areas in, and around NYC where so many celebs live?

I just don't think he likes New York. He's not a New York kinda guy.

Any excuse, given the situation? What makes him believe that it will not happen in South Beach? I think he believes this is the best place for him to get the ring, trophy or whatever ( jersey hanging from the rafters.) More confidence in Pat R... Of course now, every team in the division will be aiming for them... especially when the Heat are on the road.

Lebron is a douche. He knew he was going to Miami all along but wanted the attention so he strung all the teams along and had himself an hour long special to announce his "decision". Fucking tool! Douchebag.

Actually his mom was hoping to talk him into staying with the Cavs so she could be near Delonte. LeBron broke her heart too with his "Decision".

You can't call Lebron a bytch for not wanting to play for New York. Sure, maybe he didn't want to deal with the scrutiny of the tabloids, media, etc...He's free to play in whatever city he wants to.

But I will call him a bytch for trying to get it done with 2 stars on somebody else's team.

Big fish in small pond attracts lots of attention.

Gloria can be a cougar slut in Miami and no one will notice.

I really believe Lebron and his "inner circle" think they can in Miami be a big big deal, where in NY they are intimidated by uber cool infrastructure already in place.

They are not ready to be a global force. THey showed their lack of maturity and cost Lebron years of good will and some serious coin.

Lebrons hard on will be to show the world its wrong. Why even go there to begin with?

Dude, he's going to freaking Miami. He wont get intruded on over there?

If you live in Weschester, you'll be fine.... or so it seems.

She'll be so happy.

They acted like a bunch of hillbillies that were totally in awe of NY and intimidated by it. I think it had a lot to do with the losers that are constantly around him (his team) telling him he wont be able to handle the pressure in NY. I think they saw what was coming and that their own sphere of influence would go down in places like NY/Chi. Here Lejabroney would be expected to win before he was elevated to the god like status he is accustomed to. Because in this market there are other starts who have already done that before him. Jeter/A-Rod get all the love but they need to perform and keep doing it. This is no place for wimps.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

Not for nothing but a lot of well to do New Yorkers eventually find their way to South Beach. Nice weather year round and a better night life from my point of view. And a much better place to raise a family as well. The opportunity to cruise to the arena vs. fighting traffic could have played in it too. We shouldn't act like we never heard this before. Shaq (too much snow) and Jordan (too much traffic and family displacement) used the same excuse in 1996 but didn't get beat up by the media for it. If someone says family lifestyle plays a big part of it, I have to respect it.

Shaq and Jordan got it out the way quick and never strung along multiple teams.

Unless he is using it as a ploy to get you to say exactly what you said. He is not just going to say "I'm being a hypocrite- I'm going ring chasing with Wade and Bosh."

I think Miami had the path of least resistance to have the 3 guys playing together. Once the Knicks signed Amare, it was over.

You are looking at an article 4 years ago. I don't think it is reasonable to hold a 21 year old to his/her future plans. Life happens. Much the same I think it would be insane to yell at a buddy's wedding "hey I thought you said you never get marry when we were in college."

This is Lebron James. He's too famous to be walking around anywhere without photographers or press hounding him
