Lee isn't signing for that low. IMO, Lee is gonna get around 13 mil per. Someone will overpay (probably Kahn).

After what Gay got, Lee is looking for the max.

If we could get Lee for that deal BRIGGS, I would agree with you but if it's Amare at the max vs. Lee at the max, I'll take my chances with Amare any day of the week (and Lee has been one of my favorite players over the past 5 years).

yeah, i agree with taking my chances with stoudamire. i think he brings some other intangibles that lee just doesnt have. tho amare isnt good with defense, he is still a better shotblocker.

David Lee is 27 and Amare is 27 aswell. And Lee is getting more than 11 a year if Gay is getting 13. Stop fudging the numbers to make a point.

I think the more interesting question is: why is Joe Johnson getting a max contract? He is more of a role player in my opinion, not a team leader. Sure he is good but it wreaks of overpaying a shooter. There is no way he deserves Lebron/Amare/Wade type $$$.

You don't get it do you? Thius is not about which is the better deal its about which can entice Lebron to come here. The heck with David Lee.

I think the Knicks could get him for 66mm or very close to that over 6-- does all of that extra cash= smarter move? You are not really improving the team vs money spent a big problem for the Knicks over the last 10 years.

Amare makes the roster look more appealing to other FA's (Lebron) and future Fa's (Parker, Melo). Amare is also just a flat out better player than Lee.

You are improving the team because Stoudemire is not only a better player, but is more appealing to other potential FA's. Briggs, I'm confused, I remember you were a big Stoudamire fan when he came out of the draft, and you were calling him a beast, etc. Now that we might be getting him, you are down on the move....

So Amare and Lee are equal now? Just grab whichever one is cheaper?

You take Amare every time. He consistently wins games he is a winner. I like Lee and his improvements but does he hold his own with the likes of Duncan, Howard, Garnett, or other top tier PF and C no he doesn't he is a good player. But give me Amare.

If signing Lee has the same chance of attracting another big-time free agent as signing Amare and you can sign Lee for 66 million you have an argument but I'm not sure either of those are true.

yeah, come on Briggs- there's no way Lee would sign for that unless the whole market dried up and he was left with no other option. Look at who's signed for what- fairness, reason and value don't come into it anymore! Amare's contract is rumoured to be $92mil over 5 years, Lee's will be probably have to have been about $80mil+ over 6 years- it's not a huge difference. Though i agree with you in that I am a bit worried we'll be spending a lot more for little improvement, plus with all this spending, the new collective bargaining agreement could really screw us in the years ahead.

Anyway briggs, you've been mysteriously quiet on the potential Amare signing!- how do you feel about it? Would you rather have Bosh? Or Lee? What do you think of Al Jefferson?

Also could someone even hazard a guess as to what Kahn is doing? He thinks Al Jefferson and Kevin Love duplicate each other so he decides to get rid of Jefferson and replace him with... Lee, who's essentially a better, more expensive version of Love. And he doesn't even have the cap space to sign him because he's blown it on Darko and the overseas player. Not that I'm complaining- it gives us chance to get something back in a sign and trade, though what exactly they'll offer baring in mind Kahn's desperate paranoia to avoid being done over by his former mentor...

Everyone is dodging the question here...
I absolutely agree, I would much rather sign DLee last year for 11M/per than wait til 2012 to offer Amare the max.

I don't care what the Knicks could have done last year. I took the question as pertaining to what can we do now. So what do you think we should do now?

Better deal 26 year old lee 6 years 66mm 29 yo amare 5 years 100mm?
