Asked to gauge the likelihood of re-signing Pierce, Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said last week on WEEI Radio in Boston: "I don't know because he may be able to get a long-term contract somewhere else. It may be better than what we have [to offer]."

He would be great as a Net to provide vet leadership to that young roster.

I draw the line at Pierce.

At least we respected Reggie Miller!

Pierce is just trying to get more years from Boston. He has a player's option for $21.5 mil for 2010. Only Kobe will be making more $. But why not join the bandwagon. Every player's agent sees an opportunity as the FA market heats up.

It's most likely about the lockout and new CBA. Pierce on the Knicks? No way. Too old, sort of a punk. Definitely a leader, though.

Pierce is on the downside big time , he wasn't anywhere near the player he was in the 08 playoffs. Boston or anybody would be insane to give this guy big money .

This guy is an *******. Opting out of 21.5 million. They are paying rondo 11 million dollars how much does he think he is going to get. they aren't giving him four years. Nothing to do with loyalty, they paid him already and overpaid him.

to opt out of 21.5 means he must have some offer from somewhere...

Could it also mean Boston was planning on trading his expiring?

its really out there. Maybe he wants out of Boston? Dude's loaded. MAybe he wants to spend winters in Miami. If thats what really makes you happy than $15mm vs $20mm doesnt really matter

I see him getting at least as good a deal as Ginobli got. 52 million for 4 yrs sounds about right.
