But you're the king of conspiracies!

C'mon, no Rautins's father once bowled in the same place as Walsh's father and apparently once accidentally stepped on his shoe and said "sorry" as a story?

Players who had dads who played are usually some of the more intelligent kids who come out of college...no conspiracy about that.

Rautins has been around the game his entire life, and has a father who played the game at a high level of competition. Doesn't mean that you draft him just because of this fact, but his grasp of the game must have been evident when we had him in for a look.

Maybe they saw some things in his game when he worked out for us that they were not expecting to see based on what they knew of him from his college career. I'll bet that if you were to talk to Donnie or MDA they would tell you that Rautins surprised them with some of the things he could do.

We will see. I am especially curious about whether or not Rautins can actually play PG and distribute and if he can actually get past an NBA quality defender to reach the the basket or pass out after penetration.

He has VERY GOOD court vision, so he can probably run the point for stretches. It's at least nice to have that possibility. Well, we have to see if any trades go down. Hopefully we do get Collison from N.O. Many of us are hoping for that...

You can include me in the group that's hoping for Collison. He's a good young point guard.

Does he?

I have family (via marriage) in Syracuse. In Syracuse sports are huge especially college sports. Doesn't matter who you are - you will go to those games and follow those teams just how we follow the Knicks. They're die hards.

They think Rauntins sucks. They say he can hit the three. Yet that's a college three. They say he sucks. I'm inclined to believe them. Not to mention this guy wasn't even guaranteed to be drafted.

Anyone expecting much out of this guy or our other picks are going to be extremely disappointed.

No need to overrate any of them in any capacity. They would have all been SL walk ons/invitees if it weren't for the Knicks.

Dell Curry type player. Play 5-8 min a game and take a few shots.

It was the 38 and 39th pick. Crumbs.

If your family are die-hard 'Cuse fans and they think that Rautins sucks then I don't know what they were watching. The dude controlled the offense for a team that was #1 in the nation at one point.

The kid pours out everything he's got every night in the same way that Flynn and G'Mac did. He's very nearly the shooter that Nichols was. The difference being that Rautins can pass and dribble.

People who actually watched Syracuse games will talk about Rautins amazing court vision. What I will say is that I never really saw him make those crazy passes at NBA speed, and clearly he'll have issues going to the rim, although he can dunk...

What's going to be key for him are these points -
#1 - Can he defend NBA point guards?
#2 - Can he develop a post up game so that he can back down smaller PG's?
#3 - Can he adjust to the speed of the game?

The guy definitely has NBA range and can shoot with a hand in his face.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

wow... finally someone with something to say. The guy is a very good player on a great team. His skill set will translate into being an immediate rotation player. He's not big, but he's not a pip squeek either. He's got an NBA handle, great passer, court vision and an NBA jump shot. He's a very chippy player too, he knows how to piss guys off who are bigger and faster much like Reggie Miller used to. Just because he's not a top 10 lottery pick with sure fire all star potential doesnt mean he cant be a good roation or bench player in the NBA. Guys a good basketball player. If we ever got a stud in here like a Lebron or even stuck Lee+Bosh together up front a guy like Rautins is going to spread the floor, get them easy shots and knock down open jumpers in space.

We had DUHON running the pick and Roll!!!! You don't need to be really fast in MDA's system, just skilled and smart. If you put slow ass Steph Curry in the same spot it works cuz kid can shoot and pass with good court vision. TD is fast but is weak passer, narrow court vision and not great BB IQ and still he found some success in the Barbosa role. Rautins could be successful here without great speed. Nash uses change of pace more than pure speed.

It could be that DW and MDA put Rautins in some Pick n Roll and got to see if he was effective in making decisions and hitting shots.

Look, I think Walsh proved to be a terrible GM again in this year's draft.

I talked about Rautins as a possible fit here, but I was thinking that it would be as a late pick that we purchased for a bag of balls or as a camp invite.
He is a fit and couldn't have landed in a better spot. This team, this system is his best shot at sticking in the NBA.
However, its crazy to have not looked at Varnado, and Warren specifically at those spots.

Terrible draft, but Walsh may have lucked into something in Rautins.

Here is how you have to look at what we just did in the draft:

38th Pick- Jordan
39th Pick- Fields (if you do research on this guy you will see that he was more than worth of being a #2)

Unsigned from Draft: Rautins, M. Washington

Looks much better if you view it this way. Few on UK would be upset with Jordan, and people would have given Donnie a break on Fields, and immediately accepted him as a "sleeper."

Folks in RealGM's Milwaukee forum are not too happy about selling us Jordan, by the way.

I wanted more from this draft, and was an early proponent of purchasing at least two other #2s, but I can live with what we picked up, although Whiteside and Alabi were on my mind.

I was down for Brackins, Hobson, Torrance, Vasquez, and A. Johnson, who were all thrown out as possibilities, either at 38/9, or with a purchased late #1, and could have lived with Ryan Richards or even Tiny Gallon (with #2's that we bought).

I was not interested in Varnado, Stephenson, or Warren.

a player like Rautins couldn't have been had with a Summer League invite? with our PF/C situation completely up in the air wouldn't it have made sense to pick up a Varnado, Lawal or someone of that nature to hedge our bets against striking out in free agency? oh yeah, Donnie doesn't believe in contingency plans, unless we're talking about the "wait til 2011" contingency plan... that is unless Melo signs that extension to stay in Denver... then we'll be talking about the 2012 contingency plan.

Rautins is more of a finesse Heinrich. I just don't get drafting another wing right after him when you've got Varnado, a player of the type that we haven't had in a long time and Warren, a player of the type that we haven't had in a long time - both sitting there for us.
