Without the whole selling him on NYC thing, how else can we convince him to come to New York?

All the elaborate recruiting plans for LeBron James will have to change. James will not go on a recruiting tour, his longtime business manager Maverick Carter told ESPN.com Friday.

"LeBron is not going on a tour," Carter said. "He never planned to go on a tour and has not been a part of any team's plans for a recruiting trip."

Instead, the Cleveland Cavaliers' superstar will visit with individual clubs at a neutral site once the free-agency period begins July 1.

James' decision throws a monkey wrench in the plans of several clubs that hoped to sell him on non-basketball-related enticements such as the vibrancy of their city, the social life it may afford or the A-list celebrities that support their teams.

James, the most coveted player in this historic free-agent class, wants the focus to be on basketball and doesn't want it to turn into a spectacle.

Clubs were made aware of James' decision on Wednesday and many went into scramble mode. The New York Knicks, who were planning a spectacular, celebrity-laden dinner cooked by a world-renowned chef for James on July 1, quickly cancelled it and held an emergency Plan B, according to two sources.

The Knicks, who also planned to give James a magnificent tour of New York City, are going ahead with plans to bring Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on visits to New York, according to sources, but they will have to meet with their top target, James, on neutral turf.

It is not known where James will meet with clubs, but Carter said it will not be at his home in suburban Akron.

Seems like he is doing this just to spite us.

LMAO... yeah, he's doing a great job of not making this into a spectacle so far... come on Lebron, just embrace the ass kissing, you know you're enjoying it.

For a long time I have held out hope that the Knicks could get Lebron. But in a weird way, this turn of events makes me all but certain that its just not going to happen. If he doesnt come out for a recruiting visit, I dont think the Knicks have a chance to get him. The Knicks arent the best team for him to join. Chicago with Rose, Noah, Deng? and cap space and Miami with Wade and cap space are. And if he doesn't have the opportunity to be wowed by the bright lights and big city... the Knicks dont have it.

I just really hope we dont get Carlos Boozer.

This is very bad. I smell a rat Lebron knows where he is going so he isn't gonna waste his time traveling. I just hope he doesn't go to Chicago because we've suffered enough at the hands of the Bulls and Jordan .

This is all about building his own legacy in NYC or joins other man show in Chi or Miami.
What is LeBron about we will see soon.
To be honest if he is all about easy ways to get to the top I am not dying to get him.
But I still believe he can surprise me.

Do you realize he wont have legacy if he doesn't win anything? I have a feeling Bosh is heading to Miami. This will lead to Lebron heading to Chicago to counter.

Noah, Rose, and James VS Wade, Beasley, Bosh

The extra cash each team has will be used to fill out the holes in their respect roster.

I doubt Lebron wants to come to NY and get owned by Wade and Bosh in the playoffs.

If LeBron James comes here, either Chris Bosh or Amare Stoudemire will follow. And we are up to par with Chicago, who wouldn't have made the Playoffs with that "great" talent if Bosh didn't get hurt for Toronto, and Miami. The idea that a Knicks team with LeBron and Bosh isn't as good as the Bulls or Heat is just plain hate.

No. Gallinari, Chandler, Douglas, Walker, Curry, 2nd round picks is not better than Rose, Noah, Deng, James Johnson, Taj Gibson.

And all of our players combined aren't better than Wade.

So we're not up to par.

Who is really afraid of Wade and Bosh? I think you still need to put the right players around them. Bosh has been the biggest piece on terrible teams and Wade can't win it on a team like that without good supporting players.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

The Bulls wouldn't even have made the Playoffs if Bosh didn't get hurt for Toronto.

False. The Chicago Bulls can offer him that same thing. And don't tell me about $3 million difference. They can get it done.

Sorry - I'm tired of everyone playing up Noah like he is anything more than a single dimensional, marginally talented, spoiled, big man.

Noah is not much better than Varejao.

I actually respect Lebron's potential move here.

Its not about the sights and sounds.

Its about business. Not wining and dining. Its dollars and sense.

I've visualized what kind of presentation I would make to Lebron.

It would be a bunch of powerpoint slides with lots of dollars coming his way, and on perhaps the last slide - a billion dollar figure.

I'd try to persuade him that his best chance for both a championship and an opportunity to match or outdo Jordan in terms of making money is here, not in Hickago or Miami.

To me none of that fancy sideshow stuff was going to do it anyway. I felt that if DW and MDA had any hope of landing Lebron, it was going to be in how they planned to build the team this summer and next. They can easily make their intentions clear in that meeting without the pomp and circumstance.

1. Being able to pair him with Bosh or Amare, his choice.

2. Having the cap space coming from Curry's Exp. Contract will allow further enhancement of the roster. This new Knicks team could offer the best supporting cast he's ever had and room to grow cuz the Knicks would still have a good cap situation next year after Curry comes off, which is unlike Cleveland's caplocked status.

3. A roster having players that enhance his game and complement what he does best. He's a distributor almost as much as he is a devastating scorer, if not more so. We have guys that can knock down the open shot. Bosh, Gallo could be a really good pairing for him and it doesn't stop there if DW does his job with the rest of the roster.

4. The style of ball here would also be perfect for him. D'Antoni coached teams are always at 20 or more assists per game. There's tons of passing and high % scoring. They'd have to go over the plans on D and convince him that it can be effective with good players playing it and this time they plan to have the proper size inside to really enhance what the defense can do.

5. I think it would be easy to assume that Rose or Wade make a better situation for Lebron, but then in Rose he has to basically take away from much of what makes Rose special in handling the ball or in Wade he would basically be joining a guy that already has a title and his own city. Here he is the big kahuna despite what Bosh may think of himself. Bosh's game would be a complement as would Gallo's. We don't have a problem of duplication of what he does best.

6. People love to hate on Dolan, but his pockets are deep and he's not afraid to spend in order to help the team. This time tho it would be for the right players. The Knicks would never hold him up in an effort to try and save money. They made 304 Mil this year and the team stunk!!!

LeBron not visiting NY or anywhere else so you can forget that dinner
