The Clippers may trade their No. 8 pick to Chicago for Luol Deng and the Bulls' 17th pick, according to a source that spoke with Chris Broussard.

Broussard hasn't received confirmation from a team official.

RealGM Note: This trade could not be completed on draft night due to the Clippers needing to use their cap space to absorb Deng's contract.

I believe this because the Clips dont need young guys they need Vets.

Kaman(VET)
Griffin(Rookie)
Deng(VET)
Gordon(3rd yr)
Davis(Vet)

That is a solid team in the west. I felt the Clips lacked consistency last year. They seemed solid at times but fell off around mid season.

By doing this the Clippers would be conceding the fact that they are out of the big name FA race. Jalen Rose would need to update his Lebron team list.

I dont see Lebron going to the Clips. The only way that would happen if he is looking into really expanding in Asian markets. Lebron and Kobe in LA would be the biggest news in the NBA.

Agreed. No way Lebron goes to the Clippers. If he does, I don't know, I'll laugh my ass off.
That's a sorry franchise.

Deng is a good player but he isn't worth the money. The clippers won't pull the trigger on that deal.

If that deal happens, it greatly increases the chances of Lebron going to Chitown, MJ's shadow be damned. Let's hope it ain't in the works.

I'm not worried about Chicago. We're on good footing with them. I'm more worried about Miami who already has Wade in tow.

Usually the rumors that we hear about are for deals that are dead.

2 GMS discuss a deal. It dies.
A reporter later asks what that GM has been hearing.
He says ... "well I did talk swap with this other GM of player A for player B"
The reporter runs with it.
Meanwhile, the deal was already dead at that point.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

from RealGM:
According to a source, the Magic and Bulls have discussed a deal centered upon Luol Deng.

Mickael Pietrus and center Marcin Gortat would come back to Chicago in return.

ANyone know the cap implications of this possible trade? Does it clear much (if any) cap space for Chicago?

one other caveat to this deal - gortat has to agree to this deal if they want to do it before july 13 (which chicago does) and i think he likely would because he signed with dallas last offseason to play more, but orlando matched it.

it clears long-term money for the Bulls, but their cap number actually goes up $300,000 this off-season. for that reason, people are predicting it won't happen. unless maybe it happens after they sign a major free agent or two.

MIA is going to be the favorite to land a bigname this summer w/o a doubt. (aside from D Wade)

why does Gortat have to agree to this? does he have some sort of say so?

yeah man, because he was a RFA last year. I think July 13 is the anniversary date.

Gortat has signed an offer sheet that has been matched which means he must agree to any trade which occurs before Jul 13, 2010. However, he cannot be traded to Dallas.

Actually, THIS would give the bulls close to two max contracts:

The Bulls have a trade in place that would send guard Kirk Hinrich and the No. 17 pick to the Wizards, sources told ESPN.com's Ric Bucher.

The move would free up enough cap space for Chicago to sign two max-level free agents this summer.

The deal can't be consummated until July 8, when Washington will have enough room under the cap to absorb Hinrich's contract without having to send anything back in return.
