The papers know who we want before the draft EVERY year. I thought we were doing a smoke screen to get Jennings last year and was proven wrong. The Knicks are so transparent when it comes to the draft.

Vasquez, Hobson, and Brackins are our late 1st round targets.

they've worked out Hobson three times. we know they like Brackins.

but it's basically an admission that unless they can buy a late first rounder, they won't be able to get those guys at 38/39

also, if anyone wants the link:

The Knicks are looking to trade into the first round of Thursday's draft to select one of three players, including Maryland guard Greivis Vasquez, a team official told the Daily News late Monday.

The club is debating between Vasquez, Iowa State power forward Craig Backins and New Mexico small forward Darington Hobson. Brackins had a strong workout with the Knicks, who see him as a legitimate 3-point threat.

We had a lottery pick last year. The 29th pick was pretty much dependant on who we drafted with the 8th pick. If we drafted Curry do you seriously believe we would have taken Douglas? Everyone knew who we wanted with the 8th pick.

Yeah, the Knicks aren't exactly descrete when it comes to some of their picks. Not all of them. For example, nobody could have predicted Ranaldo Balkman, Tony Douglas and David Lee. However, it seems like everyone and their mothers knew about Channing Frye, Gallinari (If a PG wasn't there), Hill (If Curry wasn't there) and Wilson Chandler. The Knicks were hellbent on those guys, so if it seems like they are, it means they probably are.

My opinion here is it is pretty clear what the Knicks are doing here.

Brackins is a replacement for Lee. Hobson is a replacement for Wil. Vazquez looks to be a replacement for Rubio.

I have to admit that I really don't have any issue with any of these picks.

Brackins is one of the most polished scorers in the draft and the best shooting big man in the draft.

Hobson is a slinky - herky-jerky SF that reminds me of Boris Diaw and Tayshawn Prince. He can take bigger players off the dribble, he understands how to use his body to establish position in the post and can score around the basket. He's an outstanding passer and his shot will keep improving.

Vasquez is the best (point guard) leader in the draft --- in terms of ball in his hands running an offense. There are others who are more talented but Vasquez is a GAMER and a tough kid.

I would not be upset with Vazquez being picked up later.

Hey, a replacement for Rubio. What a novel idea!

I seriously think that GS is looking at Hobson too. Got to go back to Nellie's Bucks days and remember Pressy who I believe played point forward for his team.

Who exactly? Pre draft reports had it all being about Curry and Rubio. Walsh specifically said after the draft they wanted Tyreke Evans.

I think that was a major, obvious flaw with their strategy last year - they clearly wanted guys who would likely be gone by the time they picked. They had no strategy if Stephen Curry didn't fall to them. And we saw exactly what that looked like.

Good chance that one of them should be around...

Who will Donnie take if they are all available at the slot we are targeting?

I lean toward Brackins, but have no problem with the other two.

I hope that if we go for Vasquez or Hobson at the late #1 we go exclusively after some bigs at 38/9.

By the way- there is no guarantee that we take one of these 3 if a player slated to go a lot earlier drops for some reason and the team we are buying the pick from does not want that player.

Knicks have to atleast walk away with a big Sanders, Alabi should be the first target then the rest can fall into place.

we need a SG... G Vazquez would be a nice pickup if we can get him but i think he goes in the early 20's personally.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

I think the guy who is slipping who is going to be one of the better players in this draft is Whiteside. He can shoot he can rebound post and block shots and he is very athletic for 7 feet. Its kind of like andre blatche is a way--the Wiz were patient with him and now they haev a really good 6-11 250+ guy who can do a lot fo things. I think Whiteside would be more like a Camby but goodness I would take a young Camby

I got Whiteside going in the 10-15 range. Probably the only player I would trade Chandler for at this time.

I think so many teams are so focused now on having a guy help them in year 1--you miss these types of players--he was not an invite to the green room --that doesnt mean everything. he needs to gain 20 pounds but the guy has a nice mid range touch good basic post moves and his type of length/athletic translates better at the NBA level imho. We have to bite the bullet to get a C--Ive been saying the same thing for 10 years!
