Sources close to WFNY have informed us that Tom Izzo has told his players at Michigan State that he plans on taking the Cavaliers job. Our sources have heard directly from players on the MSU team that Izzo informed them this week that he is planning on making the move up to the NBA level under the ownership of MSU grad Dan Gilbert. We have also heard from a separate source that Izzo is holding off on announcing this until the end of the week, when his kids finish up school in the Lansing area. While Izzo could always change his mind, we are comfortable reporting that he has in fact informed his players at Michigan State that he will be taking the Cavaliers job.

i think izzo is a wonderful coach but the one thing you've always noticed about him and his teams is that he's EXTREMELY demanding of his players, which is what has made him such a great college coach. i dunno how that comes across to multimillionaires in the nba though...

college cheerleaders are off-limits. pro "dancers" are open season.

you decide.

unless he wins, his 1/2 years wont equal the many years he could be a king at mich st. $$$ may be more initially if this rumor is correct, however hes stepping into a mega pressure situation. seems kinda unwise as a long term move. maybe he will have better luck then all the others who have tried to make this move and failed. he doesnt remind me of larry brown yet though... able to move from college to pros to college etc and have success at most stops.

hey, I won't disagree with you. But I do think if Cavs owner does want Izzo, he is rolling out the carpet of double pay, access to his private Jet, prob access to vaca get-away home, and a chance to coach LeBron.

That last part would be hard for any coach to turn down, and Izzo's decision would surely hinge upon that detail.

would be sweet to see how this plays out if true and lbj goes to ny. this is a crazy choice if he is really considering it. its not impossible cle has no lbj and he sigs up to coach a bunch of scrubs. maybe he bails like donovan did.

NO pressure in collge? Gettin harder and harder to recruit and stay on top. Go two years and not win and see what pressure drop feels like!

Get out on top double the money and test your NBA acumen and then pick from any college job in the country when you ready to go back in.

You gotta get double the money to live in cleveland.

Other thing is Izzo can use the NBA as leverage to up his deal with Mich and give him what ever he wants.

Nothing bad gonna happen. Unless Lebron not staying.

Izzo is a good dude. Maybe this keeps Lebron for 3 years until he can go brooklyn with the JayZ and the Russian.

as much as kentucky hasnt won, thats one of the few places where falling short has tons of pressure. roy at unc, awful year and unc would be nuts to kick him out. tubby smith and the guys after didnt do awful yet the boosters/fans wanted change.

LOL i saw on ESPN a list of the coach's that turn pro...wow...not one had anykind of success, at least as far as the NBA...actually I believe the only one was pitino, the rest were all below avg. It's still amazing that college coaches think they can win in the pro's . Calipari was a disaster in the NBA.

Larry Brown. I think he was a college coach first.

Just off the top of my head. Paul Westhead and Chuck Daly.

Larry Brown. I think he was a college coach first.

He was an assistant but got his head coaching experience in the ABA.
