Have at it boys. Here's a bit of history about BP, the politics of Oil, US hypocrisy and British obstinacy.

Just think about trying to fix a similar problem in winter in the northern shores of Alaska. Yeah drill baby drill.

I live in florida and this thing is scary. The bad part is hurricNe season just stArted. If a major hurricane goes into the gulf, it is going to spew oil everywhere on the gulf coast. They think it is bad now; this is nothing compared to what it will be with a few more weeks of oil pouring out of the ground and a hurricane coming through.

Looking like a recipe for certain catastrophe. BP is going to go belly up on this spill, with all the civil and criminal suits it is facing. Congress is about to rescind the $75mil cap on liability and open BP up to a major can of bankruptcy. Wish I had a short position on it.

These gulf states take BP's money and then complain to the federal government that BP drilling was not regulated. Lot of folks got rich and fat off leases and drilling rights namely not me. I mean BP just didn't come and set up shop without paying someone to do it. I find it funny now that all hell has broken loose and no one wants to step up to the plate and admit fault. It's like renting out your house to a bunch of crazy teenagers and blaming the block association committee for the damages that the teenagers cause because the teenagers violated the home owner association policy about excessive partying. This isn't a natural disaster.

It would be gangsta of Obama if he finally grew some cajones and said this to the right-wing nuts who are trying to somehow pin this on him:

"Hey, stop looking to the government to help you out of your messes. Besides, I'm not trying to socialize the oil industry. I am fully confident that the collective, individualistic spirt of the hard working Americans of the south, combined with the free-market principles of this great country, can get us right out of this mess, lickety-split. Go Celtics, fukk Hobe, I mean Kobe. Chuuch!"

In a crisis situation with pressure mounting, everybody wants to blame everybody else. This is not anything new, but what is scary is people are all stirred up about the politics and the blame game. No one seems to be focused on a solution. All the energy is being directed in making a full blown issue out of this. No one seems to have any ideas on how to actually cap the damn hole.

Imagine if you will a world where blue fin tuna and sperm whales are extinct. That nowhere in the gulf are there any fish or shellfish fit to eat and no beaches unsullied. Imagine the Grand Banks covered in oil. It's frightening.

Blue fin tuna will soon be extinct, our lust for sushi will see to that. Japanese whaling has made a mockery out of all efforts at conservation of endangered whale species. All fish we eat will soon be tainted with petroleum residues in addition to the usual mercury. This way we will get new and more exotic varieties of cancer.

Human greed and wasteful overuse combined with a complete lack of respect for wildlife and natural order of things is destroying entire ecosystems all over the world. While we are too lazy, too incarcerated in our daily pursuit of useless wealth soon to be made worthless by more economic disasters, to do anything about it. The Sarah Palins of the world are winning, and winning big.

Pres should draft a hard-core Environmental Bill and all these southern Repubs complaining that the Feds aren't doing enough I would tell them it's time to put up or shut up. Use the Bill as the starting point for developing Green Industries and jobs. If they don't want to bill or advocate against it they will only come out looking horribly bad.

He should say something like that since he has pretty much been unresponsive to the whole thing.

whatchu want obama to do?? Put on a wet suit, grab a couple of Sham Wows! and save the day?

Obama sent top scientists to work with BP on a solution a while back. The goverment has no experience handling a issue like this because the goverment doesnt contract corporations like BP to drill oil.

I think people want him to do something symbolic like completely dress down BP...cool, but if he gets too excited, and runs up in BP like Stone Cold Steve Austin, putting BP execs on their back and calling shots, the wingnuts are waiting to scream govt takeover, socialism and use that as a political talking point in future elections.

That said, Obama has ties to BP in relation to political contributions. He's going to have to step up and explain that and tell us how not only are we going to solve this, but how we're going to stop this stupid ass offshore drilling shyt. Obama will take heat over this, from both sides. Dont trip.

This is going to be an environmental disaster that will have far-reaching implications. Catfish and Shrimp gunna skyrocket --- tourism is going to go down, kids going to start showing up with 20 toes in the south. Its going to get ugly. The only positive is the debate to rid ourselves of our dependence on foreign oil should gain traction.
