there are 30 teams in the league, 6 of them have non-white head coaches

rivers, brown, woodson, spoelstra, mcmillan, and hollins.

2 of them were just fired.

so currently, only 4 non-white head coaches in a primarily non-white basketball league.

to use a misterearlism..."just sayin'"...

I think its more circumstances than a symptom of something more like in the NFL or College football. Stern has always been good about this kind of shyt. He'll drop hints to make sure the numbers look a little more palatable.

He's Filipino- American.. His dad use to be an NBA executive for Portland Trailblazars.

His mom is from San Pablo Laguna in the phillippines..

a more interesting stat would be the % of new coaches that are black. Seems to me that more black coaches are hired without head coaching experience than white coaches. Also a lot of a the white coaches in the league have eons of experience.

There's a bunch of non-white coaches in college basketball gaining experience, they be in the NBA in a few years
Masgov once ran a marathon backwards to see what second place looked like...

Isn't Mark Jackson a defacto coach already?

Yeah the good thing about the NBA is that it's pretty good on fairness in hiring. I like that about the league. In fact more pure coaches need to come from the College ranks. Guys that start early in coaching and aren't just Ex NBA players.

Don Nelson, Jay Triano, Jim O'Brien and John Kuester should all be fired. Avery Johnson, Byron Scott, Sam Mitchell, Dwane Casey and Patrick Ewing should all have Head Coaching jobs.

I don't know why teams still interview Doug Collins. I always thought he sucked.

Still don't get how D'Antoni is excused for all of this? He's lucky he works for one of the most idiotic owners in the league. God helps him if he doesn't get LBJ. Can't imagine how you look pass anymore bad seasons.

So do you think D'Antoni blocking more non-white coaches entering NBA?

I totally agree. D'Antoni has done alot of damage and he has lost at a rate for the four seasons he hasn't coached Nash. Two of those guys are winning at a lower percentage with their current teams than D'Antoni, Nelson and Kuester but the other two are winning at a significantly higher rate. D'Antoni without Nash wins at a rate of just under 35%. That is over four seasons. With the Knicks he has won at a rate of 37% but the drama, devaluing of draft picks communication problems, playing grizzled marginal vets over first round picks and the rigidity aren't worth it in my opinion. I would love for the Knicks to hire Jax, Ewing, Avery, and even Byron Scott who I have alot of issues with but I think is much better than D'Antoni.

Seriously it is very sad when any sport is getting limited to only one ethnical group.
Usually it is the beginning of the end for the show.
We all want coaches, players, and everybody connected to bbal to be a better professionals and better people.
How this people look is completely irrelevant.
If we will have decent coaches who happen to be humanoids from Alfa Centaurs I would gladly accept it.
