Parker Might Be San Antonio's Best Trade Asset

May 09, 2010 7:55 PM EST
Facing an 0-3 hole against the Suns in their semifinal series, the Spurs could be looking at major moves this offseason.

Marc Stein of ESPN.com writes that, according to sources, San Antonio is "increasingly optimistic about their ability to inject their front line with some new blood by convincing Brazilian forward Tiago Splitter ... to leave the European game to come to the NBA starting next season."

The Spurs drafted Splitter back in 2007.

Stein also wrote that Tony Parker, as strange as it sounds, is the team's best trade asset.

The point guard has one season at $13.5 million left on his contract and has reportedly been telling people that he is unsure about his future in San Antonio.

Via ESPN

#1 - Sign and trade David Lee for Tony Parker ( he makes $13.5 mil next yr )
#2 - Sign Chris Bosh ( max $17 mil per ? )
#3 - Sign Channing Frye ( 3yr - $21 mil )
#4 - Sign Rudy Gay ( 5yr $50 mil )

Next yr we have Curry, Wil and Parker coming off. ( Resign Parker ) Or we can package Wilson and Curry for an elete SG or wait for Melo in 2011.

C. = FRYE = 7'0
PF = BOSH = 7'0
SF = GALLO = 7'0
SG = WIL = 6'8
PG = PARKER = 6'2

Love Parker's scoring ability! He's not a great passer but he is so slippery on offense and efficient. Basically what TD could one day hope to be. I can't remember if I've ever heard of SA having interest in Lee tho.

As you can see nix, Spurs need to help Duncan in the paint, plus he is old. Lee can play the high low game lid Robinson used to do.

Hey at this point I say get it done! We get the ball Rollin with a very good player and more important a Winner! Our kids need that. Anytime we can add players from winning franchises it's a major plus in building a team with character.

We don't have that much cap space. After trading Lee for Parker and signing Bosh we could pay Frye 4 mil at most.

Spurs are looking to bring in Tiago Splitter. So IF he is willing, they need to move some salary to be able to sign him to > the MLE.

If we can sign Bosh, then a Lee for Parker trade makes some sense. San Antonio would probably want us to eat another bad contract, perhaps taking Jefferson off their roster but even that would not be that bad.

Why would we have to eat a bad contract? We can make a fair trade.

Splitter has an opt out and SA only has midlevel which is not gonna get it done. They need to shed salary.

Parker has one year left on his contract.

He is better than anyone we got, but we gotta get bigger and better in other areas.

very true...Toney has been playing in the nba since he was 19. He's been breaking down a little but he still can ball.

Tony Parker actually is very good in the pick and roll...Coach Pop doesn't really use it too much though.

Anyway, I hate Tony Parker lol!!! but yo it's not about that...it's about getting the best team on the court for the Knicks...Tony Parker is a champion. Knicks need that experience. David Lee for Tony Parker makes tons of sense. Sign Mike Miller and or Ray Allen and I would be happy as hell.

Trade David Lee and bring back Frye for 7mm? I wouldn't mind getting Parker but not for David Lee.
Id rather concentrate on retaining Lee and getting Bosh to play next to him.

I dont get this. What does this generic statement have to do with Parker who has been playing professional ball since he was a teenager and seems to be breaking down?

Again, every player in the league has been playing ball since they were kids. International games or pick up games, doesn't matter, its still playing ball and loging HEAVY MINUTES and alot of WEAR and TEAR on their bodies.

Pick up games are the same as pro ball? C'mon doggy, you expend A LOT more energy and mental wear and tear playing in high level competition.

But again, lets make this specific. Parker seems to be breaking down and he has clearly lost a step or two already. No?

I would challenge that pick up games are more strenuous on the body then professional games.

For one, pick up games have no time outs, substitutions or time frames.

Totally disagree, TP has not lost a step. Yes, he hurt his shoulder, but as you know, that occurred from a fall, not from mileage.

I dont agree with that.

But in Parker's case, there is a reason they're making him available. When a cat's whole game is predicated on speed, they have a quicker expiration date.
