While the Knicks coaching staff began conducting pre-draft workouts yesterday in Westchester, president Donnie Walsh had bigger fish to fry across the pond in France.

Walsh, who flew to Paris on Thursday for the European Final Four, has his eyes not just on draft prospects but on 2010 free agents, forward Linas Kleiza and Josh Childress, the athletic wing formerly of the Hawks, as well as Minnesota point guard Ricky Rubio of Spain.

The talented Kleiza, 25, a restricted free agent for the Nuggets, and Childress both played this season for Olympiakos Athens, which reached the final yesterday. They will play Rubio’s FC Barcelona.
With point guard Jonny Flynn emerging as a force for the Timberwolves, the Spanish sensation is expected to be dealt by Walsh’s buddy, ’Wolves general manager David Kahn.

Meanwhile, former Lincoln star Lance Stephenson is officially in the NBA draft as he signed Thursday with New York-based agent Alberto Ebanks. Stephenson played just one season for Cincinnati and could fall out of the first round. The Knicks pick 38th and 39th.

I think this is a smart move - i'd take Kleiza AND Childress for this team. Both would be great fits and help with shooting and defense and can thrive in an up-tempo system. They're great second/third tier targets to fill out the team if we only get one superstar or something.

Is Johny Flyn emerging as a force though? I haven't seen him play, just watched the box score. But, considering they run the triangle offense, can he really shine? Also, would Rubio even want to play in the triangle?

Too bad he didn't take time last year to scout the finals. Could have found out who Jennings was. Just saying.

What's West up to these days I wonder?

I agree. I think that was a big mistake especially since he was there on a scouting trip.

Walsh did. And Jennings didn't play much. And then he went over for the showcase tourney and Jennings pulled out of that at the very last minute. Knicks also had the kid in more than once (if my recollection is true).

What can you do, Jennings didn't impress.

How do you know this? Seems Knicks were fascinated with anyone with a jump shot.

Please say no to Kleiza and Childress. More role playing SF's. Both a RESTRICTED FA's therefore we'd have to overpay for them.

Also when comparing Jennngs frail body and small sample size of work to the other guards it would make a decision tougher. Let's not make it seem like Jennings was a sure thing that everyone else loved but us. There were enough issues with him to scare GM's. Kudos to the Bucks for the pick.

Walsh, D'Antoni and Wilson went over to see him at the tournament in Italy to get an idea of how he carries himself in a game but he was still playing in his league playoffs which most scouts already knew was a possibility. So instead of going to Rome like the Bucks did, the Knicks stayed behind at the tournament. One of the reasons that writers beat up Donnie when he tried to pass the blame on passing on Jennings to Isiah's scouts.

Not really. By all accounts Jennings had a great workout and impress several Knick scouts but he still wasn't drafted by Walsh. Once again Donnie tried to place blame on the scouts for not constantly reminding him that he should take him. It was perhaps one of the most ridiculous pass the buck excuses I seen in awhile.

That's why you make the trip to Rome for in-game scouting instead of staying behind at the tournament.

Walsh didnt make any comments about draft picks before the draft. He commented after the draft.

Jennings only critique during workouts with teams was his erratic jumper. Plus the Knicks were in love with Stephen Curry. Jennings made note of this is one of his quotes.

Walsh also stated he did not know enough about Jennings right before the draft. Umm the guy was the number 1 prospect coming out of highschool.
