Wonderful, Lee thinks the next thing he needs to work on is the 3-pointer. Not a grunt in the direction of defense.

I think that's ridiculous, and I think it illustrates perfectly why he is not a winning player. Listen, I'm self-aware enough to realize that after all these years watching him, I kinda just hate this guy now, and that I have a stronger negative reaction to him and his game/attitude than most. I'll cop to a bit of just haterness towards him. But basketball-wise, I gotta think that more level-head folk than me would also be taken aback by his lack of self-awareness, and lack of any dedication whatsoever to shoring up a glaring weakness.

Sorry, I want him GONE.

"Not saying I'll be [Danilo] Gallinari out there. That won't be the focus of my game, but I hit two shots [Wednesday in Toronto] with my heels on the line. I think I can be a decent 3-point shooter. I think that's the next step."

How about being a decent defender????

I REALLY hope we don't re-sign him. You are not winning a title with David Lee as your starting PF. I don't care if he adds a 3-point shot either. His weak D just takes away everything he does good imo.

not defending Lee but, can you name 5pf's that are good defenders?
And just blocking shots does not count as being a good defender, just ask Pau Gasol.
the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

I don't like this. D Lee just avg 20.3--He's just needs to continue on pace moving out to 3 ball land could send him back. Maybe when he is 30 years old + but not for the next 3-4 years.

d'antoni wants bosh so if lee can hit the 3, he can try the bargs/bosh duo with lee/bosh.

Exactly Cos. I really don't like what I've heard from Lee in the papers today. Taking up the damn 3 ball again instead of defense, saying the Knicks had 2 chances to lock him up long-term the last two years, saying the Knicks have to do what they have to do & he's gonna do what he has to do, saying he wants his agent to go out there and work, etc....Just little things but I'm not getting a good read on him today. He might wind up going where the money is...Maybe even Canada...I see more of a possibility of a Lee/Bosh swap today than I have before..

I like him and I want him back -- LeBron & Bosh is my plan A. If not, I want Lee back but I'm just not getting a good read on him now...

I think he'd be better served by developing his defense and try to develop a more dominant post game. I'm pretty sure that Kareem and Malone and Wilt did pretty well for themselves without ever developing a 3 point shot.

personally i think he needs to help out antoine walker and pay him to learn the 4 point shot.

It seems like no one bothered to read the entire article before becoming furious and racing to post about hating Lee:

Lee says his goal is to improve his ball handling and revealed that he thinks he can become a 3-point threat. But he also admitted that he must improve his most glaring weakness: defense.

"First and foremost I have to get better defensively," he said.

As many have said on these boards (BRIGGS specifically has said this multiple times), if you surround Lee with the right pieces, he will only look better.

When you have a young all-star, you don't look to dump him because he isn't perfect. Instead you build around the guy and get pieces to complement him.

In our situation, we obviously don't build around David if we have a shot at LeBron and Bosh. But if that doesn't work out, adding some pieces around David isn't a bad idea.

The guy improves each and every year. Last year people were saying Lee wasn't a force offensively and only had value as a rebounder. He came back this year and proved a lot of people wrong. Why can't he do the same next season and come back as a capable defender?

"This is a very cautious situation that we're in. You have to be conservative in terms of using your assets and using them wisely. We're building for the future." - Zeke (I guess not protecting a first round pick is being conservative)

I have no problem with it cuz I don't think he'll be here. I also think he's being true to what he is, which is more a finesse player than a banger/shot blocker. Even his rebounds are low contact. It's just who he is. He's not long so he doesn't really have the reach of a great help defender. He would have to really hustle to cover enough ground to effect a lot of shots. Plus he just doesn't want to expend the energy needed to defend since it will take away from his money making 20/10 stats. Those numbers are magic, in that they lead to big paydays. No way he sacrifices that to do grunt work. Most defensive guys don't get paid much.

If David Lee can learn how to take charges, commit key fouls and alter shots better, especially against penetrators, he would be a keeper. We don't exactly need Dikembe Mutombo and Charles Oakley to be a good defensive team. Look at Oklahoma City. They are small and lack shotblocking but they are one of the best defensive teams in the league.

But sadly, I don't think Lee can become a decent defender. I've seen enough from him these 5 years. He has his habits and he simply doesn't have it in his dna to defend.
