The status of Hawks coach Mike Woodson could play a role in whether or not Joe Johnson re-signs with the team.

"Of course," Johnson told FanHouse when asked if Woodson's contract situation would affect his own.

"That will be one of the factors. (Woodson) was one of the main reasons why I came here (signing as a free agent in 2005). Me and him stayed and talked for a while before I signed. So we'll see. I surely hope him and his coaching staff will be back. Those are guys that I'm very comfortable with and familiar with, and the system that they have us running right now, it's been successful. So hopefully we can keep our core right here."

Woodson's contract, like Johnson's, expires at the end of the season.

"I'm thrilled to hear that Joe said that," Hawks owner Michael Gearon said. "I take that as a positive what he said about Woody."

we can't believe what anyone's saying... everyone is a liar except for Eddy Curry... i actually believe him when he says he's not considering opting out this summer.

Good news because you didn't want us to Max him out or Good news because of doubt in his confidence in Woody and say the playoffs

Good news because i hope he decides to stay in ATL... i want no part of him at max dollars & if u keep crack away from a crack addict, u have a chance to keep him from smoking it.

Really can't read into any of this until the players sign their respective contracts.

Hell, even Tim Duncan after visiting Orlando as a free agent years ago told people he was going to sign with the Magic. Then he changed his mind just as quickly and the rest is history.

Can't believe anything these guys say until they back it up with action. Don't waste your time reading into these articles.

This would have been good news if we hadnt traded those picks.

nah, just cuz we traded away those picks doesn't mean we should sign JJ to the max... there are other ways to avoid being in the lottery again w/o overpaying for guys like this... we need to spend the cap money wisely this summer, can't just throw the max at players who don't deserve it just because we miss out on the guys we really want.

We have to get somebody in the front court and a dominant guard this summer. If that someone is Joe Johnson so be it.

I have downgraded my expectations to Boozer and Johnson because they will come for 5yr deals if you overpay them enough. Then try to throw some cash at Frye or trade for an overpaid big who can shoot.

Boozer
Gallinari
Chandler
Johnson
Douglas

If you overpay for Joe and Boozer which are doubtfuls then you don't have room for a player like Frye who wants more than $3mil/yr long term.

Joe wants more than $15 what the Hawks already offered him and Boozer wants at least that much. In order to get Joe we're going to have to offer $17mil really no less. Boozer is playing tremendous basketball for a hot Utah Jazz team headed to the playoffs. If they make it to the Semis and have a great showing or WCF teams will have to offer Boozer near Max money. Our GM said he will not overpay.

see that's exactly what i DON'T want to happen... i don't want to settle for guys like Johnson & Boozer on albatross contract just cuz we can't land the top guys... IMHO if we fail this summer we should spend our money wisely on players who we can get the most value out of... build a team with depth & amass tradeable assets for possible deals down the road... if u sign Johnson & Boozer to big contracts it severely limits your flexibility to make trades or other free agency signings in the future, & you're almost totally dependent on those 2 guys performing at topnotch levels for the life of their contracts... 5 years is a long time to wait to get back to this point only to have to do this all over again... we won't have another shot at this again anytime soon, we gotta make sure we don't screw this up.

So one of the mains reasons he signed with the Hawks was because of some rookie head coach and not because he got boatloads of cash? Cool.

I dont care who we get this summer so long as we get legit talent. I cant take another season of watching scrubs get blowout.

i feel u dude... i can't take much more of this either... i think we should be able to field a competitive team w/o taking on albatross contracts tho even if we miss out on the top guys... gonna have to trust in DW to use his good sense this summer... one encouraging thing is that he said he won't overpay for talent, for whatever that's worth... we'll see how long that lasts when Dolan starts demanding some big name acquisitions this summer tho.

Walsh will get fired and Dolan will hire someone else to give out ridiculous contracts. D'Antoni our next GM.

I think 5 yrs at 15mil will be JJ's settling price. The FA field is dwindling and now the GM and scouting team are going to be challenged to get the requisite talent from the 2nd and 3rd tier players.

Kobe resigns (not that we expected anything less), LB if he has a brain resigns (he's already part of the arguable the best time in the NBA right now so, why leave. Joe (not nearly max worthy) Johnson seems to be leaning towards returning to the Hawks (considering his I hope coach and his staff come back quote).

I'm almost willing to bet that Walsh's big acquisition next season will be Zach Randolph swap for Curry's contract (if he's smart).

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

He would just stay in Atlanta for that amount. Chicago and NJ are going to offer serious cash.
