For similar reasons, Walsh will have to decide whether Chris Bosh is worthy of a max deal if he strikes out on LeBron. Sources familiar with Walsh’s thinking are convinced that he does not regard Bosh as being on the same level as James and Wade, who will be the only two clear-cut max players on the market. “That’s the fallacy with the max,” one prominent agent said. “It allows you to buy Chris Bosh for the same price as LeBron James.” In fact, another person familiar with Walsh’s strategy said if it came down to deciding whether to keep David Lee or sign Bosh to a max deal, Walsh would choose Lee. “There are questions about whether Bosh is the kind of player who can carry a team by himself,” the person said. “He certainly hasn’t done it in Toronto.”

I get back into town for this ****. Fire Donnie old ass now if this is true. You mean you traded 2 picks and the potential right for another team to swap your pick to get a player you could have re-sign on the cheap. How is this even posted without a pre-April Fool Day's disclaimer.

There is a rumor that Houston may go after Bosh and use Hill as part of a sign and trade. I haven't heard it for awhile but I will be pretty pissed if it happens.

LOL! for real if that's how it plays out this guy should be fired immediately... this is just more of Donnie Walsh's cronies putting out possible failure scenarios to keep expectations down in case we miss out on landing 2 primetime FA's this summer... first it was the "2011 fallback option", now it's "Bosh isn't worth the max" excuse... pretty soon we'll be hearing about how Lebron isn't necessarily a good fit for MDA's system.

Donnie traded Hill, the 2012, and a 2011 potential swap - for - the right to re-sign Lee to a mega-deal and retain Harrington and Duhon and TMac.

David Lee - 6yr, 78M
Al Harrington - 6yr, 45M
TMac - 6yr, 42M
Duhon - 6yr, 36M
Sergio - 4yr, 24M

*RUNS*

But, seriously, we ought to be prepared for such a possibility in some way. Where we don't score a player and Walsh keeps what he can to avoid being the Nyets next year.

Yet, I don't take anything the media spins out as truth. We've seen time and again comments skewed to make a better story. Mike's "I don't play bad rookies." comment is the latest. (Watch the Mike D'Antoni Show clip I posted if you missed the show, it's a good one, it's posted on the forum, it explains all that media crap versus what Mike meant).

I also don't trust much of what Donnie says to the media at this point. He's got a tough road ahead of him and the last thing he needs to do is tip his hand to everyone. We know the available players. We know their worth. I'm pretty sure Donnie does as well. The media takes any comment and runs with it.

I wouldn't look much into this.

The more Donnie speaks the more you realize he traded Hill and the picks to ensure we could resign David Lee.

Joe Johnson(Overpaid) and David Lee.

While that team is an upgrade it's nothing to get excited about. I expect to Joe Johnson to essentially be our PG.

Well, it was obvious that if we didn't do that Jeffries/Hill trade.... That even if we could grab a max FA? We couldn't re-sign Lee or sign anyone of significance to put alongside this max FA.

So it was a necessary trade not just for the 2-max-dream (which is more media/fan fueled than anything else). But, We HAD to do it so we could add a Max (or near-max) FA - and bring Lee back.

Otherwise, what did we have? Something Bron wouldn't come to that's what. And if he did what did we have?

Jeffries
Gallo
Bron
Chandler
Douglas
6-Hill

.....uh, YUCK?

Yeah, YUCK.

The Jeffries/Hill trade was essential. Even if it's signing Joe Johnson and bringing Lee back. Couldn't even do THAT without the FishLips trade!

I doubt Walsh sees JJ as a worthy player to tie up cap space with. I think he saves for 2011 before investing in JJ.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

I like the posturing before the summer to let Bosh know that he shouldn't be thinking about getting the max from the Knicks.

I don't really like that in the same breath they talk about keeping Lee, presumably for "Bosh"-like money. Work over Bosh so you don't have to max him out. Sign Lee only for a deep discount.

If it turns out Donnie takes the DLee, JJ route...A seemingly mundane trade to free up additional cap space that would have rolled off in 1 year anyway could destroy the Knicks for the next 5-6 years...Imagine that...

Remember when we discussing this possibility last year around the trade deadline and how we both agreed that this would be the worst case of mismanagement of assets. I don't think we both could have guess that it would be compounded with multiple picks.

LOL @ everyone who told me that this would never happen under Walsh's watch when I question why he wasn't signed to an extension or traded outright back in 08. SMH.

I have said this many times...There is no way in hell Donnie makes these deals unless he absolutely knows LeBron is coming and he is trying to woo another stud here...No Way...

Doesnt matter what Walsh wants to pay because the market will set the price. Someone will pay Joe Johnson or he can stay in Atlanta.

Walsh has ZERO leverage so he needs to shut the hell up.

LOL posturing?

Walsh has ZERO leverage because Bosh can get the max from Toronto.

Lebron wouild much rather play with lee that bosh. Bosh needs 15 shots a game lee would be happy with 8 and 12 rebounds. Why wouldn't you want a guy that will set screens and pass over another ego

You serious?

Lee has shown he is a baller but he still is not as good as Bosh. You need stars to win.
