This is a major sign of an older athlete breaking down. You don't usually fid this type of injury to a basketball player until later on in his career. No way NO way NO way would I give him the max--and this solidifies the position. You cant give that kind of money to someone 30 years old not named Kobe.

I agree. Outside of LeBron and Wade, I am not sure who I would target for the max. I have reservations about Bosh and Amare.

doesnt Jose Reyes have achillies injuries?

Its about market. If you want a 20/6/5 4-time all star your gonna have to pay

Jose Reyes--hes not a basketball player and he isnt exactly the healthiest guy.
This is a warning shot--luckily shot in time. If not Lebron Rudy Gay is the best investment.

It's a total 'F' grade if we give Joe Johnson the Max. Adding him to this current roster STILL doesn't make us a Playoff contender.

His season numbers and his overall career does not suggest he is a max player. Dude is only scoring 6 more points than Chandler playing 3 more minutes and taking 400 more shots. There is a reason why he would be available to the Knicks, Billy Knight isn't there to give him that Al Harrington type of contract anymore. Donnie beware.

Oh and he is a very old 29. A lot of wear and tear on his body.

He was never a max player to begin with, The hawks didn't even offer max $ to him, believe you me, GM's are a lot smarter then they were during early 2k's

briggs... the point is the guy is young. Missing a couple of games because of an achillies isnt a sign of wear and tear. Its a sign that he jumped up and landed on someone's foot. This has been one of the healthiest players in the league over the years.

Knee and ankle problems = reg flag.

all depends on if he tore it or not. if it's a tear, he's out for the remainder of the season....

If we sign this guy walsh should be fired right after the ink drys. This is a disaster waiting to happen. Shooting guards break down all the time and what makes JJ good is his ability to put it on the floor. The Hawks have two very underated players that anchor the defense in Al and JS. We don't have comparable players. So we are clearing cap space to essentially become the Hawks with an older Joe Johnson. No thanks to this guy. He is 12-13 million player. He turned down 60 over 4 I don't even know why this guy gets brought up.

The Bucks will be better than the Hawks in a year anyway. So I don't even know why JJ is in the coversation. Bosh is the only max type guy aside from the big two and that's even a stretch. Only overpay for size.

I was unaware that we had already offered him a max contract.

Any of you guys have info that I am unaware of...

...or is this just a preemptive fan rebellion over something that may or may not be a consideration at some point?

It's pre-emptive strike.
