We've never been in on the high school market of kids--of whom many turned out to be the stars of the NBA.

It now appears as if PF Renardo Sindey will not play college basketball at all---he was a freshmen forward at Miss St who never ended up playing because of violations in his recruiting. It looks like he is entering the NBA draft. This is where the Wizards ended up with Andray Blatche GS Monta Ellis etc....a 2nd round pick. Sidney was the NUMBER 1 recruit in HS last year over guys like John Wall Demarcus Cousins Derrick Favors et al and is projected to be a 2nd round pick. We have 2 picks. This is where you use one of the picks on a guy like this--this is a home run swing pick and to possibly have that in round 2 is unusual and MDA will like that he can also shoot with range.

This kid needs a team that will be patient with him for at least a couple of years.
If he gets drafted by the Knicks, he better show something in summer league or he will be a bust.

he just better make sure he dominates right out the gate as soon as he gets an opportunity or else he'll find himself on the bench for the rest of the year.

That may actually be good for him. From DX, not very flattering
Though he still possesses a few very nice skills, Sidney’s shortcomings contributed substantially to Team USA losing. He was completely outworked and out-toughed by the front line of the international team, and didn't really show much in terms of effort playing defense or fighting for rebounds.

Sidney stands at around 6'10", and is listed around 270, carrying probably 15-20 extra pounds considering his build and size. He moved much better as a sophomore in high school, and back then he would mix it up in the post occasionally on offense as well. Fast forward to now, and he seems to just want to shoot jumpers most of the time, as he did during the practices and in the game. He did display a nice reverse finish near the basket as well, but it was about the only time he entered the paint during the game. The USC-bound senior can pass the ball quite effectively from the high post, and his 4 assists were quite impressive in this game.

Defensively, Sidney showed very little focus and effort, tending to pick up fouls rather than guarding the post. The big man also showed a poor understanding of how to guard the pick and roll. On the glass, he didn't box out or use his extra bulk at all, and showed very little fight at all, being outworked multiple times by the international bigs.

Now is the time that Sidney must make the necessary changes to become the impressive prospect who really stood out as a sophomore in high school. It all starts with a more professional demeanor, and a better focus. It would also help if he were able to slim down, and start to mix it up in the post on the offensive end.

You get a big skilled kid like that--you mold/tutor him the right way and you will have something very nice. And if you don't it was a 2nd round pick--that's the beauty of it. Demarcus Cousins was and is a very big guy and I think he will be a top 5 pick.

i'm all for taking a flyer on high upside kids that need work w/the 2nd round picks... i'm hoping Donnie Walsh has the good sense to use 1 on a bigman who can block shots & the other on a PG prospect this summer... if this kid can fill that bigman void, i'm all for it.

If were picking 37 and 40--you probably have to have --what 35 guys on your list? They probably mock it 5-40 and sit and wait. My two favorites--if I could guarantee them now and sit on them Fredette and Petersen--I would walk away from the draft with those guys locked in--they both have lottery talent.

Looks like he might eat himself out of the league. We'll probably need a a mid to late first rounder to get him though.

He's 19--if you are his agent--waht are you going to make him do? At 19 he can be a rock hard 260 in two months. Bynum was 320 pounds at the MCd's game and was 260 for his NBA workouts a few months later.

Im not disagreeing with you. If you can snag him with a mid first rounder or even better a second rounder you do it.

I'd even entertain Lance Stephenson.

If you had to choose between this kid and Varnado, who would be your pick?

I like Jimmer Fredette and Jamine Petersen but between Varando and this kid--it's quite obvious this kid is way more skilled with a much bigger more agile body. If th Knicks dumped Hill they will not be picking Varando.

We could say 7 different names and none of them could be there--this is a wait and see process.

Varnado is older, accustomed to big games in the SEC and has what most say the Knicks need, shotblocking. This kid has the higher ceiling, from the small write up I read, but will need time. Not sure the Knicks have that luxury. But you are right, it's a guessing game at this point.

A big agile athletic skilled 6-10 265 pounds is pretty good for this small team--even if we have to wait. Varando does remind me a great deal of Theo Ratliff when he was @ Wyoming--those guys are very very similar size game athletic ability etc... . He's on my 5 list--but would the Knicks want a guy like that--probably not? The Knicks could end up with both Varando and Sidney--that would add a ton of frontcourt depth. I guess whatever happens happens.

Good luck. Walsh didn't even know that Jennings dominated on the HS level. Scouts couldn't wake him up in time.

Yes, they do need size. It seems to be a recurring theme last couple of seasons.

I would take a flier on a kid like this, but it will require patience. I would love to see him play vs bigger and better competition.. guys like this always look great in HS... Oden, and tyson chandler looked better when they were in HS....
