just posted this in the hawks game thread but don't know how many people are watching anymore.

fun game

max worthy players in the nba:

1. lebron
2. duncan (when he got it..not now)
3. kobe
4. wade
5. durant
6. dirk
7. melo
8. bosh
9. chris paul
10. yao (pre injury)
12. dwight howard
13. deron williams

anyone else?

nash?

If there are only 9 players worth the max in the NBA and there are 30 teams, shouldn't we just resign ourselves to the fact that there will be at least 21 players getting the max that don't deserve it?

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

This is one of the big problems with the NBA. You have guys who think they're Max players and the team they're on probably doesn't want to sign them to that much, but once they hit the Market someone (Knicks, Nets, Bulls etc) may overpay for that player. The fear of not getting the guy you want drives up the price. I really hope we don't go Max for anyone but Lebron & Bosh.

If he's willing to come here and play with Lebron then he's a Max player in my book. If he's the only big FA we signed and he was our only star, then no, cuz I don't think he's that kind of difference maker. But he does make a difference and would boost the power of a buy like Lebron or Wade if they are on the same team. It's funny cuz if you have Bosh and JJ3 on the team I don't think either is a Max player, but if i'm pairing them with either Lebron or Wade i'd be willing to give them that kind of money to make sure they come.

A max player in my book are the ones who can really make a difference game after game, and when the game is on the line, you give them the ball and they win it. In addition to great skill, the have great determination, and succeed under pressure. The only players I think are max quality now are:

Lebron
Wade
Kobe
Durant

Close to max:
Dwight Howard
Melo
Bosh
Joe Johnson
Dirk when younger

I think you'd have to put Melo in there. He's pretty clutch. Dirk is a bit of a technicality cuz of his age, but he's a Max level player if you're just talking ability. The truth is that there are only a select few, but teams will still pay despite that fact. It's always been that way.

Man Portland really F'ed up. Not only is Durant better than Oden. He is hands down better than Roy. I'm proud to be in the "I told you so" about how that went down.

I tend to agree - especially the top 4.

Am I wrong to think Joe Johnson is over rated? I'd drop him off the close to max list.

Man, just finish watching this game and I wouldn't even state that Joe is the best player on his team. He is a volume, ugly shot shooter. Getting Joe at $11-12 million to go along with a Lebron or Bosh might get you by for awhile but it won't make you better. Defense is about the only thing that separates Joe from Crawford. Take away Smith and Horford and he would be leading his team to the lottery.

+1.
If all this suffering and surrendering picks nets us Joe Johnson for the max, I'm done.
