LeBron Files Paperwork To Change Jersey Number To 6

Mar 02, 2010 12:11 AM EST

LeBron James told the Plain Dealer that he has filed the necessary paperwork with the league office to change his jersey number from 23 to 6 next season.

"I've done it," James said. "I already sent it in. I'm going to be number 6."

The deadline to submit the request is this Wednesday.

James' decision may prompt another round of speculation about the superstar's impending free-agency. The number on his jersey may be different but what about the city name?

If James were to sign with a team other than the Cavs this off-season, he would not need to submit an application to switch jersey numbers. The request James filed is only needed if he remains in Cleveland next season.

Because earlier in the season he felt that nobody should wear number 23 anymore as it is Jordans number.

LeBron wants all players to surrender 23

Saying he is willing to initiate the movement, LeBron James would like to see any NBA player who wears No. 23 to choose another number as homage to Michael Jordan.

With Jordan looking on from a third-row seat Thursday night, James scored 34 points to help the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Heat 111-104 in Miami. Afterward, the reigning MVP told TNT he plans to switch his number from 23 to 6 after this season.

Right but he doesnt have to do this unless he is staying with the Cavs.

I'd be surprised if LeBron has already made a decision finishing out this season.
If he leaves, it was ultimately unnecessary - but now he's covered either way.

To the delight of far too many. I don't understand that.

Why can't we let the offseason play out and then discuss it? Why are some fans discussing the outcome of our offseason today and then bashing it and then giving the "I told you so damn I'm so smart and you're all idiots." acceptance speech?

LeBron is probably a 70% chance to remain in Cleveland, in that he filed for a jersey number change as he has to do it now. If he was staying in CLE for certain he would have signed the max extension. But he didn't.

There's a 30% chance he goes elsewhere. In that I'd say NY is the primary destination at 25% and maybe somewhere else 5% but probably less.

So what? These "If LeBron doesn't come here it's all over." crowd are ridiculous now.

I had no idea that LeBron was the only FA that has any game.

I had no idea that the plan was LeBron - or - keep Curry-Zach-Q-Craw-Marbury (6-Francis) + SuperStar Future HOF Big Man Jordan "KareemWiltDuncanRobinsonGarnettShaqHakeemMaloneEwingRussel" Hill and continue to suck to the tune of 30 games and fire coaches every year.

But, well, whatever anymore.

Knicks tore down the mess. That's done. No going back.

Now we have plenty of flexibility to build a new team.

Why can't we sit back and see what the offseason brings?

What is with all this crying?

What is with this nearly obvious HOPING the plan fails so a few internet loners can GLOAT like they KNEW IT ALL ALONG AND HAHAHAHAHA U SUCK.

!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Really, it's tiresome, it's boring, overly repetitive, and as narrow minded as possible.

he's not. He's staying. Not only that, but Walsh is giving Joe Johnson the max. In Jan Joe is going to have his first of seven microfracture surgeries in his 5 years with the Knicks. This draft Walsh is going to trade Douglas, Chandler and the Knicks 2012, 2014 and 2016 unprotected first rounders for the 4th pick in the NBA draft and select Luke Harangody from Notre Dame.

Why do you ask? Simple... because god hates whiners. I blame you

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sad thing is BRIGGS and the children of the corn are PRAYING such a thing happens.

So they can laugh that their "Favorite Team" is terrible and most of all so they can tell some guys on the internet "I TOLD YOU SO LOOK HOW SMART I AM!!!!'

I like to talk hoops and all but it's now increasingly difficult that the fools that thought Walsh was trying to build a playoff team instead of tearing down the roster are all upset we're losing games.

Just, can't really stand it anymore.

Back to lurking.

These kind of comments many of the Walsh and Danphoney Koolaid drinkers are going to have to revert to. The plan for Lebron has failed and you have nothing to say positive about the future under these two guys.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

any stock tips? I'm impressed!

So we have established:
The Knicks will not sign any elite players

If only we had
Jennings (now shooting 36% and takes 17 shots a game but he's pass first)
Brook Lopez (first dominant bigman to lead team to 5 wins)
BJ Mullens (shooting 45% in D league)
Anthony Randolph (foot in a boot)
DeJuan Blair (6'7 PF to build around. I guess we miss Clarence Weather Spoon?)

I dont know what Walsh's plan will yield or not yield, but some of you guys simply hate the Knicks so much its impossible to even fathom anything positive.

Just the opposite, we love the Knicks we just don't follow the management blindly when they spit on us and then proceed to tell us it's raining !

Don't forget Krylo Freshenko. He's the glue in all of this. The franchise cornerstone. The mother of all building blocks. Once we lock him up all we have to do is sit back, relax, and let the rings roll in.

Oh come on playa..here you go again. Management is doing EXACTLY what EVERYONE wanted them to do when they dumped Ewing and H2O came up lame. They are tearing it down and rebuilding. Now they are choosing to rebuild with trying to get 2 Max players instead of drafting. Either way you go can burn you however at least you know the talent you are getting when you get a FA. Draft picks are a crap shot.

All along the chances to get Lebron were at best 50/50. He is a Ohio boy. However, he is the best player in the game and UNTIL he resigns with Cleveland, he is scheduled to be a Free Agent. That means that if the Knicks Management did not free up cap space and HAD NO CHANCE on getting him, you would be complaining about that. Walsh has done the only reasonable thing. He is giving the franchise a chance to sign the best player in the game at age 24. That is all you can ask for right now.

If it does not work out, Plan B starts. Then you can criticize the moves they make, after they make them. Until then, just relax.

can you give one example of that? Certainly not from me. Who here follows this management blindly? That pretty much ended w/ holfresh finally admitting that Isiah did indeed suck.

for me its simple. Aside from Eddy Curry Walsh has cleaned out the previous management's team. He's poised to build his own team around a player or two signed via free agency. I'm going to wait and see who those players are after this summer before rendering judgement. Some plans work, some dont.

I do get on guys that post daily fodder about what an abomination this management has been.

The NBA and NHL are the two leagues where losing teams quit every year. Plain and simple. The reason the players have quit on Lenny, Isiah, Larry, DAntoni is that was happens on team headed to 50 loss seasons.
