And that is the major danger with all this. All you guys that are so happy about cap space don't realize that cap space don't mean squat unless you can sign franchise caliber talent. If we miss out on Lebron, Bosh, and Wade, which is far more likely than less likely, then we are going to be stuck overypaying for second-tier players (with no high draft picks for the next 2 years). If you think Walsh is going to just sit on his hands, then you don't understand the pressure he will be under to sign someone. As others noted, if we just hold onto our cap space, then we traded Hill, our 2012 pick, and the 2011 pick swap for nothing because Jeffries was going to fall off the cap anyway. There is no way Walsh is going to do that. He is going to sign someone and is probably going to have to overpay for them, which is going to leave us in an even worse mess than if we had simply cut Jeffries, traded Hill and Douglas for a future picks. If we had done that, we would have created probably an extra $5-$6 mill in cap space (but we would still have our own picks plus whatever we got for Hill and Douglas). Instead, for the privilege of getting $9.4 mill in cap space, we lose our 2012 pick and have give Houston our pick if we suck, which will definitely be the case if we don't sign Lebron, Bosh, or Wade. Walsh may prove to be an even worse GM than IT before it is all over.
