Right away...Speed...D'antoni keeps saying he'd like to push more...Duhon simply cannot push it like Sergio does in this clip or any clip you can find. The creativity is on display as well...He can get to the basket or at least get by his man just about at will...He can create his own shot and can get to the basket and finish.....his court vision and decision making especially when to just take it himself all the way is definately on display....

Sergio is gonna make alot of us happy...D'antoni should have no problem cutting the umbilical cord on Duhon.

I been telling you guys for years now that benching this dude Sergio has been a crime against basketball....the dude can ball...enjoy the clipp as he busts your favorite rookies ass...

Like I said...go to youtube and just search for Sergio...there are clips of him against The Bulls and Derrick Rose...he can't guard Rose but nobody can...but at the same time Rose can't guard Sergio either, but you see Sergio's court vision and point guard mentality to quickly look to take advantage off a score, especially when Derrick Rose scored....this dude is gonna fit D'antoni's system almost as perfectly as Nash did....My prayers have been answered!!!!

this they take Sergio out at about the halfway point of the vid...but the first half is all Sergio Highlights....I'm praying this guy can seize this opportunity

this is his 4th year in the NBA & he's been nothing more than a backup reserve... after 258 NBA games i think it's fair to say this guy is not very likely to become much more than a Steve Blake type player... of course anything can happen but i'm highly doubtful.

it's funny tho, our rooks are customarily called trash after not even playing 30 games & we got guys high on the Sergio Rodriguez's of the world... just doesn't make much sense to me.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Man, Sergio looks light years ahead of Duhon and Sergio is an average pg at best. It just shows you how bad Duhon is and why this team has been horrible for the past two seasons. MDA please just cut Dohun and play Sergio and Douglas for the rest of the year.

Sergio (cool name btw) Rodriguez cannot be worse than Chris Duhon. I just hope Mike D'Antoni does the right thing and demotes Duhon out of the rotation asap. I'd like to see Sergio and Toney Douglas run the point the rest of the season. Most likely we'll need one of them to be the starter next year. We know Douglas can defend and shoot. He needs time to learn and improve his playmaking skills. With no shot at the Playoffs, D'Antoni needs to be patient and let Douglas learn. Do not punish him for mistakes.

Hey, Duhon has been lined up for an ass't coach position. Seems like the right move. If this guy is signed up, taking dollars away from any players, then it's a crime.

We cannot resign S Rodriquez--look at his caphold--he will have to be renounced. I think you guys should look into how the cap works. All of this stuff T Mac etc... S Rod--these guys are gone--they are here for 30 games.

I wish Sergio was closer to a 40% 3pt shooter. Other than that, I'm really excited.

semi-hijack of my own post elsewhere...

djsu used to talk about me looking a little like s-rod, i believe...lol

will also be nice to see all of those fans from spain actually rooting for the knicks for a change at msg now..lol

he's actually having his best season...

shooting 46% fg 36% 3pt

compare that to duhon:

35% fg 32% 3pts

and using the b-ball-ref player comparer for this year:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.cgi?request=1&sum=0&p1=duhonch01&y1=2010&p2=rodrise01&y2=2010

for you advanced stat guys:

rodriguez ts% .538 efg% .503 ast% 37.8 stl% 2.8 per 17.0
duhon ts% .468 efg% .437 ast% 26.8 stl% 1.5 per 10.2

rodriguez is KILLING duhon this year all over the place, statistically...not that beating duhon's season says much, but s-rod's numbers are pretty good, for someone who doesn't play much...

also check the per 36 min stats...

duhon 8.3 ppg 6.8 ast 35 fg% 1 stl
rodriguez 16.3 ppg 8.4 ast 46 fg% 2 stl

one thing you do see, is a higher t/o number for s-rod per 36, which might relate to rodgrigez' willingness to make flamboyant passes.

he's also 4 years younger than duhon (23 vs 27)...

he may be a worse on the ball defender than chris, but duhon is not having a good year defensively anyway.

either way, he seems to have a very good shot at displacing duhon at the point.

Forum Po Po and #33 for a reason...

My excitement concerning Sergio is a referendum on the wackness that is Duhon. Sergio is average as others have said. He's gone after this year anyway.

Yes to watching Sergio start this year. Duhon's gotta sit. I hope we don't lose David's P&R as a result, but it looks like Sergio can ball and has very good court vision. He's no Rubio, but I am sure he will distribute the ball better than Duhon. I expect Gallo will get more looks, too.

is S. Rod aboutto become a Nash Jr????

it's not like Nash was a MVP caliber player before playing in D'Antoni's system. He was a low level all-star that blossomed in the right system for a pass first, never ever give up your dribble, limited jumpshot kinda guard. Im not saying that Sergio will become MVP but if you scale down the equation of Nash+MDA System=MVP then apply it to S. Rod, I will gladly settle for him going from obscurity to becoming a 12pts & 8 asst (or even better a 9 & 13) kind of player.

I sure hope you're right dude. It's just the fact that he's been on the bench for this long that has be worried about this trade. But hey, maybe T-Mac AND S-Rod are here to ball at a high level, and since T-Mac ckaims money doesn't matter, we can release his rights and we can sign them both for cheap, with a guy like Bosh and even Lee. Maybe I am dumb. :-)

MDA really wanted Sergio so my guess is he'll want to get him going as soon as possible. I don't know if he starts game one but I think it's very possible. This guy is more of his kind of PG.

Briggs it really doesn't make sense to speculate on who will be resigned at this point. Just sit back and see how these guys play. It's a nice test drive.

Yeah Sergio sat on the bench for 4 years. On Portlands bench. McMillian also had Travis outlaw on the bench, and never actually started him. Bayless wad rotting on the bench until they had no choice in playing him. Andre Miller had to come off the bench also. Rudy Fernandez is another Guy they let rot...he has Roy ahead of him but that talent gets dnps and the wont trade him. Portland has a long history.

On sactown he's behind tyreke Evans and a resigned Beno. He still managed to crack the rotation.

In NYC, he has only Duhon to worry about. Tony Douglas has already been marked "not a point guard" by D'antoni.

He's not Rubio? Rubio is not even rubio yet.

Guys have come in the league and take it by storm for you guys to appreciate a talent. I'm hoping Sergio can prove he can play this game and become our pg.

not necessarily true. if we can get two max guys - then yes, we'll renounce all their rights. BUT, we don't have to renounce their rights until July 9th. we should know by then if we're getting two max guys. if not, i have a feeling they'll bring back Sergio, House and David Lee and maybe even Tmac and sign one max guy. we'll see. but the notion that these guys are all 30 game rentals and nothing more may not be accurate.

i'm really excited for Sergio to be here. i think he can be a great PG in this system.

for all the hemming and hawing over draft picks - i would have swapped picks with the rockets just to get Sergio. i think he can be that good here.

i also think House might wind up being a better fit for what D'Antoni wants than Nate ever was.

if nothing else, i think these last 29 games will be exciting to watch.
