The Chicago Bulls made it official on Thursday by announcing they have traded John Salmons to the Milwaukee Bucks for the expiring contracts of Hakim Warrick and Joe Alexander.

The Bucks also have the option of switching first-round picks in this year's draft, provided the Bulls' pick isn't in the top 10. The Bulls added second-round draft choices in 2011 and 2012.

Good trade for both teams. It will be interesting to see how the bucks strategy works out. They added some nice players.

isn't it hilarious how all MIL had to give up to take Salmons off CHI's hands was Hakim Warrick & Joe Alexander who they had essentially given up on already? meanwhile we have to give up Jordan Hill, a 2012 #1 & swap rights in 2011 to dump Fishlips & DW gets hailed as a genius for making the move?

Wow. That kind of makes today suck when you think about it.

Shows how desperate we were to free up cap space for next year.

Like you, I wanted to have Hill stay around and develop into a solid player here, but maybe Walsh and MDA have seen something in him during practice that we are not privy to.

I also don't like losing the draft picks, but the better we become in the next few years, the less valuable our picks, and Walsh has to proceed on the assumption that our fortune will begin to turn for the better beginning next year.

Boston's pick in 2011 would have been some consolation-but obviously the Celts were not willing to give one up to us even though it probably would have been in the 20's.

So it goes.

here's another update:

The Bulls also traded guard John Salmons and second round picks in 2011 and 2012 to the Bucks for Hakim Warrick and Joe Alexander. The Bucks have the right to switch first round draft picks with Chicago as long as Chicago’s pick is not in the top 10.

so add in 2 future 2nd round picks going to MIL & CHI gets top 10 protection on the swap rights... meanwhile we're dumping 2 future potential lottery picks with only top 1 & top 5 protection respectively

bro, if DW decided Jordan Hill wasn't worth holding onto, i don't got a problem with it... i may not agree but he sees more than i do... but still, the 2011 swap rights only being top 1 protected & the 2012 pick only being top 5 protected seems like he just got the wool pulled over his eyes to me... u got teams like CHI dealing their albatross contracts & only having to give up a pair of 2nd rounders & a 1st rounder swap rights with top 10 protection... why didn't Donnie approach MIL w/an offer of Jordan Hill, our 2 second round picks & swap rights protected to 10 for them to take Fishlips' contract? u telling me that's not a better package than John Salmons & 2nd round picks from the Bulls?

You are looking at player talent (potential) of draft picks not the money...

You're comparing John Salmons to Jared Jeffries. There's your problem right there.

please, John Salmons has been erradic all year... don't tell me having a #8 lottery selection from last year's draft is worth less than John Salmons.

It was a way to get JJ off our books as C2D mentioned not about the potential of draft picks and future draft picks...

no kidding... the point is there were other options to unload JJ off our books that we could have explored & not have had to include that 2012 pick in the process! plus we could have gotten better protection on the 2011 pick than just top 1... that's a joke!

u wanna tell me Jordan Hill wouldn't be a nice fit next to Bogut in MIL in their frontcourt?

well when teams know that we're trying to get as much cap room as possible, they are going to try and squeeze us for whatever we got. walsh seems to think that the added capspace is more important than what he gave up. i respect that and hope it works out.

I don't get it.. I bet if we had to get rid of salmons, it would have cost us gallo and 3 unprotected first... LOL

Erratic all year yet has a much better career than Jeffries. He can score and defend. His contract isn't even close to being as terrible as Jeffries. Salmons contributes to a team. He helped the Bulls out last year for their playoff run.

Alexander has been a bust in Milwaukee but Warrick is a decent signing for them. Salmons just fills the Bucks need at SG with Redds' injury.

sorry but i can't respect a GM who got fleeced in a trade as much as DW did in this trade... there were clearly other viable options out there to dump Fishlips' contract... Jordan Hill, our 2 2nd round picks & swap rights with top 10 protection in 2011 should have been enough to get MIL to accept that deal for Warrick & Joe Blow... hell, i woulda made that trade & let them keep Warrick & taken Kurt Thomas back instead if they wanted & still think we make out much better than we did in this T-Mac deal.

Are you saying MIL will take JJ on same trade we made with HOU? Or Are you saying we can trade JJ separately? If so, what team is that and for who/what?

Kurt Thomas & Francisco Elson would have been just as acceptable for me... i wouldn't even give a crap about getting Warrick from MIL, just get them to take Fishlips' contract & throw them back Jordan Hill & our 2 2nd round picks w/swap rights to 10 in next year's draft... to me that's a much more favorable deal for MIL than the one they got from CHI... they get to keep Warrick this season AND they get a promising PF/C to pair up with Bogut in their frontcourt.

dude, i said we should have offered up a package of assets to MIL INSTEAD of the dumbass moronic trade we just made with HOU.

Fishlips
Jordan Hill
2 2nd round picks
swap rights in 2011 w/top 10 protection

for any of MIL's expirings they wanna throw back at us, Kurt Thomas, Elson, Warrick, Alexander, Ridnour, Stackhouse, whoever... doesn't even matter who.
