Only acquire young assets--get a young coach who is willing to play 9-10 guys and do what Oklahoma has just done--two years of misery for 10 years of winning. Like Mark Cuban said--when you lose--do it the right way. We WILL NOT lose the right way--even without our pick--it would have been acceptable to play the younger players all season--would the record be materially different---no.

We wasted two years where we couldve been Good with some moves--I think right now coming into 2010 we are in WORSE shape than when DW got here. We have the wrong coach--we haev a fragmented unbalanced team and we bit into this FA all or nothing.

real easy to say do what Ok has done. They got Durant. Take him away from the equation and they are mired in mid lottery duldroms for the next 5 years.

We might get lucky enough to draft the next Oden. Or grab a big man like Lopez.

and we bit into this FA all or nothing.
since we didnt sign anyone in the 2010 FA class I agree. Lets break it down yestertomorrow.

There was no way we could've been good right now. We could've been a notch below medicore, but we had to tear down way too much to get this thing started again. We're moving in the right direction.

You can acquire young assets but continue to build with stars. If we completely rebuild you are waiting another 5 years to become any good, and that's with luck. More than likely, if you trade lee for picks, the best you get back from those picks is someone almost as good as lee, and that's with luck. I'm sick of being a bad team, we have some decent young players, now it's time to put something together. You sign lebron this summer, and if you can't, you sign johnson, and build around him, lee, gallo, and chandler. Then continue to get assets like augustine or someone of that caliber. But we need to get what we can this summer to become a playoff team, and look to add more later.

no to building around tier-2 players. joe is gonna be 29 going into next year and hooking up to him for the next several years equals mediocrity to me. if there is an arms race la/bos/cle/orl/dal are waaaaay ahead so id rather wait and see who ends up where trade wise before zeroing in on any FAs of lower caliber than wade/lbj.

GO TEAM VENTURE!!!!!

lol briggs.

ah man, you're on a roll.

A bad one though. Not so sure why you're creating 3 threads a day destroying everything that is orange and blue.

Apparently explaining to you what our team is doing is pointless so I won't try anymore.

But damn, man, ease up. You've gone off the deep end.

I was being a tad facetious but the more I think about it--the more I realize just how jack backwards we did this with the coaching hire.

i admit after seeing the tape of the rookie/soph game that it would've been nice to draft jennings and blair in 2009... but other than that, things have been okay with me. i would not have wanted brook lopez on this team. did you see him try to wrap up blair with two arms and blair still scored?

i don't think anything walsh has done can be judged until mid july. when we see what his strategy has gotten us. if it gets us bron, who can argue?

Nothing Walsh has done can be judged until July? Is that just because of LeBron? Come on. Plenty of actions stand outside of the LeBron goal.

Even if the Knicks do get LeBron, it still would be nice to be watching Jennings and Blair right now, and if I had my way, either Lopez,Gordon, or Bayless, and thinking about how they will work with him when he gets here.

cryz--come on --I would take Blair and Lopez in a second--we probably wouldve been better than an 8 pick and had a legit chance at Lawson or Collison who may better better than Jennings or atleast as good further back. Im not a Gallinari hater but we really needed a C--I'm still a big believer in A Randolph but before Mike d was hired Brook was listed number 3 on my board.

Honestly would we be better with Lopez and Blair or Gallinari and Douglas---it's a dumb question and not close.

what venom? dude, i distinctly remember u saying the idea to trade Lee for picks was a stupid idea on multiple occasions... just pointing out inconsistency, not directing any venom

its not because of Lebron. Its because any new GM should be given a chance to execute his play. Layden got his chance when he brought in McDyess. Isiah got his chance when he brought in Marbury, Crawford, Zach and Curry. Now Walsh should get his chance as well. He's essentially worked to purge this roster rebuild in 2010 by keeping the good and bringing in a centerpiece type player. Now lets see who that player(s) is(are) and how this team looks with that roster coached by the guy Walsh brought in.

Everyone says Lebron and obviously that is the hope, but the capspace gives you a ton more flexibility to do a variety of things. He's got a good track record as a GM. Lets see what happens.

Where I agree with Briggs:

- I like the idea of acquiring young assets/picks. Always has been my biggest thing. You won't find a guy out there more interested in the youth than me...That's how you build it back up IMO. Even at the expense of a guy like David Lee, who I really respect the hell out of btw for the way he's improved his game this year. Still, I'd entertain S&T ideas for him this off-season in a heartbeat. Absolutely...With enough quality young talent in tow, you then can go two ways as a franchise: (1) You eventually amass enough young talent where suddenly the pieces start falling into place and you have the foundation -- then you go ahead & add the big FA or two to the mix or (2) you amass enough quality youth to put yourself in position to execute big all-in trades like the one Ainge made with Minny for The Ticket. Either way, you don't get off the ground w/o assembling as much young talent as possible. There's never such a thing as adding "too much" when it comes to young players or picks if you ask me. Unless you're the Lakers (which is why I'm interested in purchasing their 1st rounder once again this year)...Plus watching young players develop is just more exciting anyway. With enough young talent that turns out well, now you're talking dynasty or close to it as opposed to a few year window and then that's it (Boston). Hey Boston went all in and got their championship so power to 'em, but if I had my choice, I'd rather remain patient a little longer & build it up going with choice #1. Just my personal preference. I get enough personal enjoyment watching the Yankees & college hoops where at this point, this late in the game, I'll remain patient and continue to wait this thing out here. No way do you scrap the whole thing now and go out and get guys like Carlos Boozer or Joe Johnson. That would ruin everything and be a colossal groundhog day of a failure. So I agree with some of you there as well..

- I would definitely see what I could get for Gallinari in a trade. I just don't think he's big-time at all guys. Sorry. Supposedly healthy now (I wasn't prepared to kick the guy in the teeth when he was down & out last year and thought people who chose to do so were nuts -- this season's a little different), this guy just hasn't shown me much this year other than being a spot up deep shooter. Not the big-time versatile player I expected to see or we were lead to believe. Not even close. As of right now until he starts to show me other dimensions on a consistent basis this guy's nothing more than a slightly better version of Steve Novak from Marquette in my eyes. Larry Bird, Hedo Turkoglu, Toni Kukoc, even Detlef Schrempf -- I just don't see any of these comparisons at all. He requires improvement in just about ever area -- both in terms of improving his physicality and his skills. He's got the quality deep shooting touch and he's shown a surprising little knack for trying to block a shot (ask yourselves though, is that really that surprising for a man who's 6'11" anyway?) but other than that...Come on honestly guys, he's weak, slow, is not the passer I expected (forget any previous talk of this guy as a point-forward in the NBA right now), doesn't play inside at all (and some of you guys see him as a regular PF in this league???), is awkward as sin taking the ball to the basket (all I kept thinking when he posed for the camera after driving & throwing that dunk down on Roy Hibbert at the Garden was OK, let me see you do that again young fella. And you know what? He hasn't.)... Anyone catch the small on-the-court interview Craig Sager had with Gallo before the rookie/sophomore game? Sager was asking him about his style of play and basically Gallo conceded that he's always been a perimeter player and that the rest of his game is one big work-in-progress--that they're working on the rest in practice. Honest to God, that's what he said. This kid's got a ways to go before fulfilling expectations (mine at least) and who knows if he'll ever get there. If someone like Don Nelson offered up the right package starting with a guy like Steph Curry, I deal Gallo outta town faster than you can say "on the release." You all wanna laugh, Kevin Pittsnogle has resurfaced in the D-League recently. If they ever dealt Gallo in the right trade and wanted to immediately replace what he currently brings to the table (which is a big man out on the perimeter stretching the defense & shooting 3s) they could go get this kid right now for peanuts. 6'11, 250 lb. with a great long-range touch and unlike Gallo, he also has the ability to bang and rebound inside a little. Can even post up a little bit as well from what I remember. This guy played pretty well for West Virgina. He was clutch and had a great stroke from deep. And he had a little toughness to him. I'd say his shooting touch is just as good as Gallinari's for a guy that big. Right on par. Just sayin'... Hey I'm a patient guy and I'll continue to be patient with Gallo as there's some good things he's got to work with but in the meantime, I say no harm in floating his name out there to see what you can get...

Where I respectfully disagree:

- I don't see it as LeBron or bust. Never did. There's plenty of other things they can do, like Bosh this summer, then maybe bring Melo home next year, etc. Together, those two alone would make for one hell of a Plan B. Let's see what happens here. All I ask is for LeBron to make a quick decision on NY when the time comes. Please 'Bron, don't let us dangle out in the wind when other options will still be available to us. They have to basically tell the man, look, you're our #1 guy, always have been, but we need an answer. Hopefully he'll understand and oblige..Just as long as they don't throw money at the next best thing like a Joe Johnson when the top guys are off the board, I think we'll be alright. I don't see Donnie doing that anyway. You don't come this far to throw it all away on second and 3rd tier guys who want 1st tier money. I have faith they understand this. Without LeBron this thing's gonna take a little while longer and to me, that's OK. Patience is virtue...

- Firing D'Antoni and Walsh on the spot isn't the right move. Lord knows MDA's pissed me off quite a few times but the bottom line is the team's horrible and he doesn't have nearly enough to work with yet. Still I agree, he should've put more of an effort into incorporating the young fellas into the mix than he's done so far. We would've been much better off right now. So would Hill & Douglas. I even would've found a way to give the kid Landry some time here as well. Up to this point, what's done is done I guess -- MDA felt an obligation to play the vets up to this point for a few reasons. Hopefully now though, the youngsters will become part of the rotation in this second half... I still think D'Antoni's presence alone could help us hook a FA or two when the time comes. Like him or not and despite the team's lack of success since he's been here, players around the league still love the man, love his style of play and want to play for him. That's got to count for something. It does for me until proven otherwise. That was the first positive I thought of when I heard we were bringing him in..We'll have to see this summer. And I still think Walsh, even though his drafting record as a Knick exec is a little suspect so far (Gallo who the hell knows if he'll ever be as good as advertised, but I still think Hill can play), deserves some credit for getting rid of Crawford and Zach Randolph when he did. Regardless of how well each guy has played this year & what Donnie got for them at the time, the fact remains this franchise would've remained stuck in quicksand for the foreseeable future if he hadn't unloaded these guys. We weren't winning anything substantial with those two guys here. Bottom line and that's all that matters. Randolph & Crawford together equaled a .500 team, maybe not even that good, with little or no room for improvement... For the greater good, they had to be moved and I'm glad they were. I give Walsh a ton of credit there - I know it probably wasn't easy. If not for those moves, we're not even discussing rebuilding & 2010 right now. Those moves started the road to recovery. I'll continue to be patient with both guys for the time being, minor mistakes and all, because the overall philosophy still continues to look sound to me..

But neither Layden nor Isiah got 2 seasons before any moves they made could be judged. They were judged on an ongoing basis.

Walsh certainly can and should be judged before July. In my case I might even pre-judge him!

I really don't think its that extreme. The guy is 51-82 as the Knick coach. He is extremely rigid, doesn't develop players, only wants to coach players that fit his character/compliance profile, creates lots of unneeded drama with his inability to communicate, and is the third highest paid coach in the league. What are his strengths? I think you have to look at D'Antoni when you judge how Walsh has built this team. In the 08 draft the logical pick was Lopez. Gallo is a talent but where the Knicks were/are you take a franchise center unless your coach doesn't see the value in that position and values 6'10" three point shooters. I think Gallo was a D'Antoni pick. I am not sure that Jennings wasn't drafted by the Knicks because he presented as too punky for D'Antoni to coach. I think alot of Walsh's moves are based on protecting D'Antoni. I am going to be disappointed if Harrington is moved because he is the current bad guy of the month.
