He is still one of the more underrated players in the league, and behind lebron, wade, and kobe, is the top point-wing in the league. He's a natural fit at shooting guard and for this offense, and instantly makes us a 2nd round playoff team in my opinion. Obviously we all prefer lebron, and i don't want to go as far as saying i would rather have him then wade, but keep in mind, he's not much older than wade and is extremely durable. Also, with his style of play, he is less likely to decline in ability anytime soon. He's 29, but i feel he will be at the top of his game until at least 32 and won't dramatically decline until 34-35. He's definitely worth a long term contract and i prefer him over Bosh and Stoudemire. I think you have a better chance of winning a title with him, if you add another star within a year or two of signing johnson. Once again, i think we need lebron and he needs new york, and i will be very disappointed if we don't get him, but resigning lee and picking up johnson is a great fallback for this team.

Atlanta offered him a 4yr 60 million dollar extension. Atlanta can sign him to more years for more money.

I pray Donnie doesnt pay Johnson 75 million over 5 years.

joe johnson is a laid back kind of guy. A lot of Atlanta fans feels he is too laid back and not a leader. He will be crucified in NY and on the boards here within the first 30 games.... I like jOe, and he is not a franchise player, but a great sidekick... I would not want to see him come here and get needlessly bashed by these fans..

joe johnson, in atlanta, is a 100% pure ball stopper as a guard. but he is good enough to still score and carry his team to wins. but everytime i see them play, i see this guy hold the ball for 20 seconds and go 1 on 1.

Joe is better version of Al.

Zackly. Joe Johnson does not play team ball.

Joe Johnson at the max + whatever else improvements the Knicks can make will buy a ticket to the second round some years, but that is probably the ceiling.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

I am actually amazed at how many games Atlanta has won.

It's not just Joe but the entire team plays keep away from each other and jack shots. They should be Isiah's Knicks in the standings but some how they're not.

Not sure why...cause they play like a 20 win team.

Shaq absolutely hates us. Anytime there was a rumor he could come here he flat out blasted it and trashed us. He will never come here no matter what. Even if we offered him a 7 year max contract he wouldn't come here.

And thank GOD.

The guy is just about done.

their defense is quite impressive...and it's very tough to matchup with the athleticism of josh smith and horford. that's why i'm still somewhat surprised josh smith was passed over for the asg.

Yeah good points DJ.

Horford is a beast....and Smith is underrated and was probably snubbed from the ASG.

They just play so crappy offensively though - I don't get it. If they had a sharing mentality they'd be an elite team. Yet they don't. Everyone tries to get theirs. It's like watching Nate and Harrington and Hughes duel for the most FGAs each game.

But, they win. It's gotta be the defense.

Which is odd onto itself here you have an overwhelmingly selfish offensive team - and a very good defensive team.

Talk about a rarity.

To be fair, Lebron would get crucified here too, espicially if he doesn't win us a ring anytime soon. Serioulsy, we dont appreciate anyone until they are either traded away or retire. Ewing seems to get more love now, than he did when he was wearing the blue and orange.

I'd take Joe Johnson, without a doubt he is a baller.... BUT; He is IMO a 2nd or third option on a good team. However pair him with a GOOD PG, and he can become the type of player that can be a threat to opposing defenses on any given night. Moreover, he is an assassin.. and can shine in the big moment. Something that our current group of Knicks fail to do.

I wouldnt be mad at a Joe Johnson signing at seasons end. We'd just need some strong compliments at key positions.

Johnson can be a star in the mold of how the celtics have stars. You add another star after signing him, like Paul, and suddenly you have johnson, paul, lee, and gallo. Even if you have a lesser star than paul, you still have a contender. At this point, if you take pierce or allen off the celtics and replace him with johnson, they are back as the favorite in the east. That's the type of thing you need to build if johnson is in new york. And people say its hard to build something that boston was able to, and thats true, but look at the potential stars that could be thrown around. Amare, Iggy, Jefferson, etc. These are players that could be that missing piece in the future. Every year there are opportunities like this.

Not another "JJ". Joe Johnson would be "JJ4".

according to ric bucher of espn, the knicks and joe johnson might be headed towards a marriage...

“Joe Johnson’s quiet nature has extended to his place in the 2010 free-agent class: most talent experts around the league consider him one of the three best shooting guards in the league, but his name generally hasn’t been grouped with Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Chris Bosh and the other superstars expected to be available this summer. Some of that could be because the belief around the league is Johnson will elect to re-up with the Hawks or go to the Knicks, where he has a chance to be the mega-star he — again, quietly — believes himself to be. It’s a matter of comfort for Johnson, said one GM. Johnson would go to New York because he has a good relationship with Mike D’Antoni from when they were in Phoenix together and he knows he could thrive in D’Antoni’s system. But he also supposedly likes everything about his situation in Atlanta as well. Don’t put him in the mix to join Derrick Rose in Chicago, the GM said: too many unknowns, including the prospect of being second banana to Rose.”

Oh I agree.... but lebron is a charasmatic player, and he would get over on NY fans a while with his "Act".. JJ is a quiet guy, and he would get destroyed by NY fans.... He would be labeled, nonchalant, lazy, and just not a take charge guy, because he doesn't thump his chest and hang on the rim yelling after he dunks the ball..

Eh, I guess. The next player we get, either through a trade or free agency, would have to be better than him tho.

If we sign JJ--it still doesnt magically give us a C or a PG. We will still be very small and just adding another wing player--were going to have 14 wing players.
