The Houston Rockets are in the discussion stages of a complicated, three-team trade that would send Tracy McGrady(notes) to the New York Knicks, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The centerpieces of the trade would include the Washington Wizards shipping forward Caron Butler(notes) and center Brendan Haywood(notes) to the Rockets. The Knicks would send Al Harrington(notes) to the Wizards. For the Wizards’ part, they would still need another player, as well as a draft pick and cash to make this a workable scenario, sources said.

Other players and contracts would still need to be agreed upon for a deal to come together, but there is a framework to the discussions.

The Rockets have been peddling McGrady’s expiring contract of $23 million since exiling him in late December.

Basically "meh" unless Jeffries is being dealt.

If it's Jeffries and Harrington for TMac I'm as happy as a pig in ****. Pick would be nice but that will not happen as Washington right now is giving up all the talent

Word son...lose Jared, gain a pick and pick up a former superstar with a chip on his shoulder to show he still can get it done. Just as long as McGrady realizes no matter what he's not worth 23 million any more...not even close.

Please, please let Jared be part of the deal!!!!! Otherwise who cares? The single biggest thing is to get rid of that contract.

Why would the Wizards need to give up a pick? When did Caron Butler become dead weight? I guess the Rockets would penalize the Wizards for sending back salary after 2010 but it still doesn't make sense.

Washington trades: Caron, Haywood, Mike James
Knicks trade: Al Harrington, Chris Duhon and Jared
Houston trades: T-Mac

Houston gets some major help here....Washington gains some charecter guys...Knicks lose Jareds contract.

Best I can do...

Washington doesn't need to take Jeffries in this scenario. They want to lose money. If they're doing an all-expiring contract deal then they just trade straight up for T-Mac. The only way I see Jeffries getting traded in such a deal is if Hill and/or pick is going to Washington as well.

Man this deal does nothing for me. This whole McGrady thing makes zero sense for the Knicks unless they're exporting Jeffries somewhere in the deal. Case closed. Unless that's the case, I don't even want to hear about Tracy anymore... Donnie's nuts if he does this deal (as speculated here) now. If he was gonna do this, basically a Harrington for T-Mac deal w/o Jeffries, you do it weeks ago along with getting Allen Iverson AT THE SAME TIME. That was the "all in" splash you make and you make it A FEW WEEKS AGO. Back when Iverson went back to Philly. Before that even...Now, who the hell cares?? Either someone takes Jeffries for the stretch run here or no deal. Period. That's it. And say what you want, JJ has probably been playing the best ball of his career on both ends of the floor. And for a long, sustained period of time. I don't love him or his contract that's for sure, but he's ballin'. Unlike Eddy Curry, Jeffries has got some value for the right team - a team that's getting ready to make a serious playoff run.

Al Harrington and Jared Jeffries for TMac's 2010 expiring.

Donnie, you're a GOD, when you pull this or something similar off.

Trade Jared Jeffries for a bag of chips before he get's hurt like every year. But why do I have the strange feeling Mike D'Antoni and Donnie Walsh will ask too much for this bum?

No reason to complicate things with us getting picks. We get rid of Jeffries without having given up a pick or a young player, take the deal and RUN. Waive all medical exams. Get it done.

Am I alone in not wanting to see Harrington traded?

Yes, he jacks shots up.

But he is one of the guys that really seems to want to be here, and he tries.

I can also see him as the only player on our roster who would take a home town discount to finish out his career. And at the right price, he could be part of a winning team.

As good as Lebron is, he can't win with a collection of scrub talent. He's proved that in Cleveland.

Re-sign him next year then. Gonna have to give up the rights to him to sign Lebron anyway, might as well get something in return this year.

Exactly what has Iverson done this year that some people rank him as a must have? I just don't see it. It is like saying DW messed up bug for not signing JWill or Tinsley.

TMac is younger than Iverson, he is a complimentary superstar that we will own the Bird rights to after the season, and isn't a problem child.

If all we are giving up is a combo of Harrington and spare parts fine.

Personally I want to see them sell the Celtics their championship by trading them their bench for Ray Allen and a pick (Curry, Jefferies, Nate, Ill Will) and letting Ray go back to the Celtics.

Picture being able to sign LBJ or Wade, a second tier star like Joe Johnson, resign DLee and Mcgrady.

Let's be honest here. With all that we got going on in the frontcourt we re going to have to decide who is going to have to go between Gallo, Lee, Hill, and Chandler.

Harrington is a good complimentary piece... don't want to base the team around him or anything.

Definitely perfer a *chance* of a cornerstone to keeping a sixth man

Here's my guess:

Houston Trades: Tracy McGrady and Kyle Lowry
Houston Rec's: Caron Butler (SG/SF), Brendan Haywood (C), and Mike James (pg)

Washington Trades: Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood, and Mike James
Washington Rec's: Al Harrington (sf/pf), Larry Hughes (sg) Fut 1st rd pick via Houston

Knicks Trade: Al Harrington, Larry Hughes and cash
Knicks Rec: Tracy McGrady (SG) and Kyle Lowry (pg)

How Likely is this trade, in your opinion??

the math doesn't work for jared and harrington. i think it'd have to be larry hughes and harrington. and even then i question why washington does this at all. wouldn't they rather get mcgrady for 30 games than hughes and harrington? at least mcgrady might sell a ticket or two.

i don't see why washington or new york do this trade.

NY does it because I believe there is a mandate to make the playoffs and they would do anything to do that at this point.

However, McGrady isn't carrying us to the playoffs at this point.
