D'Antoni is so pathetic at this point. You have a guy like Skiles who has loyalty to NO ONE. You play well you get minutes you suck and you sit. A simple concept D'Antoni cannot seem to grasp. D'Antoni's favoritism is coming back to bite him in the butt. Guys just dont seem to care. You got Harrington throwing up garbage, Lee playing negative defense and not boxing out, Chandler impersonating the scare crow and Gallo moving like he has a stiff back. These guys would have been yanked by Skiles so fast they wouldn't know what to do. These guys have no fear of losing minutes.

D'Antoni's personnel management abilities are pathetic. If you see guys playing with no energy put guys in who are hungry and want to play. Hill, Douglas, and Landry are hungry and wouldn't have been that bad going against Warrick, Boute, and Bell. D'Antoni to me is becoming a gimmick. Im tired of hearing this SSOL BS. Good coaches work with what they are given. There is ZERO reason we should have lost last night. D'Antoni makes faces and acts animated on the sidelines but still leaves the knuckleheads on the floor.

Oh and save me the "He doesnt have SSOL type players" BS. Alot of coaches dont have the ideal players for their "system" but they are managing.

This is why I have coined the term danphoney. This is the newyork knicks, we have to have hungry guys on the court to get the fans into the game and help give the players an edge when playing at home.

NY Fans appreciate players who give their all on the court. Guys like Landry Douglas and Hill would have at least put forth a fight against the bucks who waltzed right into MSG and let a rookie pg Jennings will them to win.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Sorry for the rant but the excuses are getting tired.

Any coach can be successful with a top players on their team. Mike Brown is coaching a team with the best record in the NBA but I doubt anyone will say he is a great coach. I guess Mike Brown should slap a acronym on his system and he shall be acclaimed.

Obviously if we get Lebron I dont think it matters who coaches the team. Herb Williams cannot be any worse than Mike Brown. We could use the savings to buy some draft picks.

Papabear Says

I agree that D'Antonio is only as good as his team. You guys over rate Gallo. He is not the second coming of Larry Bird, or Bearnard King. The other team have his number. Thats why I believe that Lebron would not come to New York He has a better chance of winning 3 or 4 rings in Cleveland. The Knicks right now is in bad shape and can't buy a win from a good team.

I was on a Forum last night where the Bucks fans were saying how stupid Skiles was - it's the same all over when your team is losing

The Knicks are doing no worse then any unbiased preseason analysis that I saw predicted. They're not over-achieving which is disappointing but they're not under-achieving either - they are what they are. A team with not enough talent and a bad match of talent. Maybe there are coaches that would have been a better match for this team but that wasn't the point when they hired MDA as the plan all along was to turn over most of the Roster.

Is Skiles as highly acclaimed as D'Antoni?

Is Skiles the third highest paid coach in the league?

Like I said I didnt say D'Antoni was a horrible coach. I said he is overrated and overpaid.

I personally believe D'Antoni needs a veteran team to be successful. He is NOT the coach you want for a young rebuilding team. Would you want Phil Jackson coaching a young team? I dont think so.

Thats right - MDA is not development coach. He will not go anywhere with this team.
And nobody will get anywhere because this team is there only for another couple of month and it will be nothing left of it next season.
Losing is hard, and 10 years of losing is very hard. But this is nothing to do with MDA, this are our personal feelings.
Just look at the send in the Send Closk... not to much of it left, time of turnaround is getting closer .

No you didn't use the word horrible. But I don't think I was off base thinking you were implying that.

You also made a comparison to Skiles No BS approach. But Skiles NO BS approach is not leading to much better results.

But the main point is not what MDA does with the team of knuckleheads - nobody has managed to win with these guys - it's what he can do with an improved Roster. And it's up to Walsh to improve the roster.

Thank God there's another voice of reason in this thread. Are we really gonna try to make Skiles out to be something special? I think he's a good coach, but come on! His team hasn't won that much more than ours and at least we can claim not to have a Center or a PG!!! The real point tho is that MDA wasn't brought in to win big with this team over the last 2 years. He's here for when we improve the talent. He's the kind of coach that does well when you have talent to coach.

Maybe you want a JVG or Skiles if you have a team that you want to grind out wins with, but remember no efforts have been made to give this team a chance to win, cuz we're holding out for 2010. If this was the old Knicks we would've made some deal to bring in talent and probably mortgage the future so we could get to the playoffs, which I believe we could do with just a bit more help.

Who wants that tho? We want to put a team together that can compete for the Title. So I'm not that concerned with MDA looking bad with this current team, which no one was able to do much with either. I want to see how he does with a good roster. If he has problems then it's all fair game to go after him. If you asked Skiles I guarantee he wouldn't want to switch teams with MDA and have to coach our guards and give up a top draft pick Center for what we have to offer and Center right now.

in my opinion, you can't judge d'antoni or walsh until you see what happens this summer. we've all known this was the plan all along. this summer, when they add the guys they really want and start to build a team - that's when you judge. let's see how we feel this time next season.

judging either d'antoni or walsh before then seems to miss the obvious.

Skiles team is garbage. Lets not even pretend that Milwaukee is good. They traded Mo Williams AND Richard Jefferson plus Redd is injured. I'm surprised they don't have the 2nd or 3rd worse record and they are definitely overachieving. The Knicks are underachieving plain and simple. I dont expect us to be a 500 team but the east is putrid and we are like a single game ahead of the Pacers and Philly. It really sickens me. We are weak at the PG position which why I feel we are losing so many games. Do you not notice the teams at the bottom of the East dont have PG's who can make plays and setup teams consistently? Do you think that is a coincidence?

MDA is just as much to blame because he plays the knuckleheads major minutes while other sit on the bench. You do know Darko, Hill, Landry, and Douglas are still on the team right? MDA is a stubborn coach with no worry of getting fired so he sticks to his lame line-ups. No one has the fear of the hammer dropping.

Skiles isn't special. The point is neither is D'Antoni. This whole excuse about D'Antoni can only coach talent applies to 90% of coaches. Do you think Mike Brown would win without Lebron?

If you cant make these guys look decent you aren't that great of a coach. This is about personnel management and holding guys accountable. If you dont want Harrington taking crazy shots then you need to yank him when he does so he gets the message. If Duhon is stinking you dont play him 30+ minutes. You yank him. If Lee doesnt want to play D you yank him. If Gallo isn't getting enough touches MDA needs to instruct the team to feed their best 3point shooter when he is open. Guys need to understand there are consequences for their actions. Making faces on the sidelines doesn't work. As I said before Douglas, Landry, and Hill would probably love to get some minutes.

Repeat!...Great post!!!...@ this juncture of the season - I am going to keep it simple...the answer is an emphatic...YES!...Overated & overpaid...Play the players that should be played & sit the players that are either hurt or simply not bustin' it!...@ this point screw the playoffs & just play the right players...We all know what the line-ups should be: Lee,Hill,Gallinari,Chandler & Hughes @ the point win or lose...its not scientific ...We need Robinson's energy & Harrington's scoring off the bench...

So if MDA did this you'd be happy? I fail to see what any proposed combination of our current roster is gonna do to change the final outcome very much. In the end the best case scenario is we win a few more games and make the playoffs but in the end the team is being rebuilt after this season, so what does it really matter. I wanted to see the team make the playoffs cuz I wanted the guys who will still be here to experience that. Also it would help a bit to recruit FA's. But it still doesn't change the fact that we're gonna press the reset button and remake this team. Why get overly emotional about this current team knowing it's the last time we'll see this group together?

Totally agree....This is a Dead-team running. This isn't even much of a team, its a collection of mostly cast-offs, bench players, and inexperienced youngins. The plan all along was to ride it out until these contract expire, change the pathetic environment, and start over in 2010. To expect MDA to flip miracles with this team, knowing our circumstances is just not being fair.

D'Antoni is 84-150 when Nash isn't his point guard. I think 204 games is a significant body of work.

Larry Brown w/o talent wasn't much fun to watch either... to fairly judge the coach we need to get him some better talent, but that doesn't mean we can't at least expect the guys we have to play with some heart, something this team has not really done for the most part this season... i think it's fair to be disappointed in what we've seen this year from this team & this head coach.
