i think mike d'antoni is a good coach...but is not the right coach for the current knicks situation.
over the past 2 seasons, it appears that he has only played a few guys consistently and hasn't developed his draft picks.
there's no need to mention hill and douglas b/c their favorite 5 letters are dnpcd.
but even a guy that does get playing time in gallo is basically told to run out to the 3 and wait there. don't worry gallo, the pg will get you shots.
but the problem is that the knicks pg's aren't that good - duhon is a serviceable backup and nate is more of a scorer.
but d'antoni has refused to change his offense and still completely relies on his pg. it's all up to those guys to run the team. and it's only via pick and roll.
meanwhile, teams like the bucks are running back picks galore and send players cutting to the basket to get guys open looks while knicks players run out to the wings and lee comes up to set the pick for duhon/nate. you have guys that go 1 on 1 and take step back 3's b/c long range jumpers have been encouraged from d'antoni for 2 years.
i made a thread a year ago about this guy and i really don't see any improvement. and i think the knicks have had the 3rd or 4th easiest schedule in the nba so far.
it looks like d'antoni is part of the 2010 plan but the past 2 seasons have been somewhat wasted. i mean if the pg spot is so important, how do they not bring one in...even someone from the d-league or a vet looking for a job on a 1 year deal?
but anyways, send him to toronto or washington b/c he needs an established team to coach. a developing one really requires someone else. maybe lebron will change all that...but so far, i think he's been a d'issapointment.
