i think mike d'antoni is a good coach...but is not the right coach for the current knicks situation.

over the past 2 seasons, it appears that he has only played a few guys consistently and hasn't developed his draft picks.

there's no need to mention hill and douglas b/c their favorite 5 letters are dnpcd.

but even a guy that does get playing time in gallo is basically told to run out to the 3 and wait there. don't worry gallo, the pg will get you shots.

but the problem is that the knicks pg's aren't that good - duhon is a serviceable backup and nate is more of a scorer.

but d'antoni has refused to change his offense and still completely relies on his pg. it's all up to those guys to run the team. and it's only via pick and roll.

meanwhile, teams like the bucks are running back picks galore and send players cutting to the basket to get guys open looks while knicks players run out to the wings and lee comes up to set the pick for duhon/nate. you have guys that go 1 on 1 and take step back 3's b/c long range jumpers have been encouraged from d'antoni for 2 years.

i made a thread a year ago about this guy and i really don't see any improvement. and i think the knicks have had the 3rd or 4th easiest schedule in the nba so far.

it looks like d'antoni is part of the 2010 plan but the past 2 seasons have been somewhat wasted. i mean if the pg spot is so important, how do they not bring one in...even someone from the d-league or a vet looking for a job on a 1 year deal?

but anyways, send him to toronto or washington b/c he needs an established team to coach. a developing one really requires someone else. maybe lebron will change all that...but so far, i think he's been a d'issapointment.

MDA was grabbed for the future and I would imagine all understood what the task was ahead. Build a team and build a culture.

Get paid 4mil and don't sweat it.

Of course we better land a big fish or two.

The question is how many coaches could really be the right fit for this team the last season and a half? Inexperienced would be yelling and screaming. Skiles learned over the years to be more patient and is better but when he was younger he was all over his younger players.

If the developement of Lee, Wilson and Gallo have shown that he is ok in this situation. He has big enough balls to sit veterans and ignore them until they put aside their ego and get back in the game. He has shown not to tolerate that kind of crap which is a start.

Toronto is playing good ball!

Scott Skiles would be perfect he actually likes rookie pg that can be an extention of the coach on the court !

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

There is a lot to be said here. What is culture in basketball--MDA is creating the 73 Knicks? It was known we would sck for two years? Ill be honest with you--unless MDA is anointed with Lebron James--he wont win 41 games as a Knick head coach. We hired the wrong coach at the wrong time. A guy who is willing to play no C for 2 years is a guy who is not winning in the NBA. Jeff Van Gundy can make a team go .500 with 4 players out.

Thats the question? Who would be a better coach for this odd collection of ill-fitted parts. Seriously, the problem most have with MDA is that he DOESN'T COACH THE WAY THEY WANT HIM TOO. Thats the bottom line. MDA is not perfect, I mean he only managed to win 62 and 61 games but couldnt quite get 82 wins...the nerve of him. He's gotten to the western conferecne finals twice (when the west was loaded), once without Stoudemire, and another year where they would have made the finals if not for the bogus rule and ejection of Stoudamire against the Spurs.

So, we dont want this guy pacing the sidelines of the famed lowered roof of MSG, instead we want Skiles a coach who is 15-20 in the playoffs and never sniffed a conference finals. The same Skiles who has the pg everyone is jocking and is tearing up the league with a 22-26 record.

Oh no my bad, we want Mark Jackson, a guy who never coached in his life but in our minds he must be better simply because we like him. We liks Mark because he's from NY and we assume he would coach they way we want him to despite having no concrete evidence. Doesn't matter if we lose every game but at least we think we know he might possibly coach they way we want. If he does, all is right because we'll get our way. Thats problem with some, we the players we want, the coach we want, the plays we design from our couches because we can do better, we want prospects drafted that we like and if they dont draft the players we want, the rookie they take instead will be an automatic bust and must be two times better than the player we wanted or he will get hell.

And this theory that we dont run plays is idiotic. The team runs sideline give-n-go's, high elbow screen and rolls, back door cuts (YES DJ, they run back door cuts, those alley oops to Wilson and Nate, etc are set plays), pass n cuts, screen aways, excellent out of bounds plays etc. This is a motion offense for the part that spreads the floor, leaves the paint open most times to create space. Now, I dont care what offens you are running, if you dont have a player that can go one-on-one and create for himself and others, your offense will break down. By the way, for a guy that doesn't run plays explain to me waht exactly is Coach K copying? Coach K said he incorporated lots of elements from MDA's offense into his own at Duke. This must a good philosophy for coach K, one of the greatest college coaches of all time, to incorporate these schemes. Especially a coach who has already won championships and should be set in his ways. BTW, try telling Bobby Knight he doesn't run any plays either. He ran a motion offense as well and he's only won 3 chips himself.

In this modern day of tecnology, every team is well scouted, every team knows every other teams plays even before they call it, but if you dont have a player who can take over, or get a basket when needed, you will struggle to win a chip. Ever watch Cleve, the team with the best record in the league two years in a row, with Lebron at the top holding the ball while everyone else gets the hell out of the way? What play is that by the way?

eddy was fat. he was lazy.

they asked him to lose a ton of weight.

to his credit...he did it.

but then strung a ton of dnp-cd's to show for it.

this situation required a better evaluator as a coach. walsh has said repeatedly in interviews that he wants to see what curry can give a team...but he wasn't given a chance to by d'antoni this year. and then he got surgery...

Again, how do you annyone of us knows whats going on behind the scens, during practice etc. Eddy got a chance, small one , but a chance. MDA wasn't pleased, I guess. All any of us know is that Eddy required surgery, again, despite not even playing. That tells me he wasn't healthy despite any weight loss.

I said it when he was hired... why hire a coach like D'antoni when the next two years were really an extended preseason audition to see who is worthy to stay in 2010. Almost nobody is. But now that we're less than 5 months til recruiting season, it is good tha D'antoni is our coach. That's why he was hired; for the summer of 2010 recruiting process. He was available in 2008. So we overpay a guy for two years to babysit this bunch and he earns his bones if he can recruit a top talent here.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

I wish I had a job where I could mess up and underachieve for two years because no one had any expectations for me to do anything. Also, the roster is being shaped by this need of the underachieving coach's need for compliant high character guys who might not possess the upside of say a Jennings.

i agree he is a 2010 hire...but when someone criticizes him, the first counter response is that he doesn't have a pg.

Underachieve? What did you honestly expect from theses Knicks when MDA first got here? (remember, they were coming off of I believe 23 wins)?

You already said it well.

These past 2 years with D'antoni have been a waste. But it doesn't matter, since he's also a 2010 guy.

This past 2 years were going to be a waste regardless of who was on the sidelines. Did you guys honestly expect us to jump right into the playoffs after what we just went through with Isiah and Layden?

This year has been very disappointing, but let's step back for a second and realize that if we had a good season from Duhon, heck even a good half of a season, this team would most likely have been in the playoffs. It wasn't going to take much to get in the playoffs this year, but without him playing well it wasn't gonna happen. Almost every team is gonna struggle without someone to lead the team on the floor. Not to mention we've got other problems.

Am I disappointed? YES! But we have to keep things in perspective cuz this is gonna be over soon and we'll be in full on rebuild mode.

We'd be in the playoffs if:

- Robinson could actually play like a PG
- David Lee played defense and blocked shots
- Chandler could be consistent
- Harrington could play within the confines of the offense
- Hughs didnt shoot so many bricks
- Darko could shoot 3's
- Jordan Hill was really Amare lite
- Toney Douglas was real PG
- Gallinari was quicker and more athletic

Come on man. Our season shouldn't be resting in the hands of Duhon period.
