If we lose David Lee and don't get LeBron and don't add anyone else, we'll be the worst team in the league by far, I believe. With that said, I can understand if DLee would be patient with us to see if we can land LeBron, because I'm sure his decision will be made quickly. We can keep him on hold while we hunt for Wade and James, and if we land one of them, we release his rights.
It's not like, as constructed, we'll be a great team even if we get LeBron and lose Dlee or even have both. Our defense would still be awful and we'd neec a pg still.
And if we overpay for David Lee because we swung and missed and get no one else we still suck.
David Lee isn't a franchise player. The guy isn't bringing us to the playoffs.
He's pretty damn good but he is also pretty damn pathetic on one side of the ball. Losing him isn't the end all to life as a Knick fan.
If you really think about it he's not alone here in NY. Harrington, Duhon, Hughes, Nate, Gallo, Chandler - he has help he is not alone - and he still can't lead us to 30 wins. That really says something. It says he's not all that good of a player.
Tim Duncan or Dwight Howard's sidekick? Yeah, David Lee is pretty good. David Lee by himself? No. So, no, if we strike out of the Wade-Bron-Bosh-Amare sweepstakes guess what? That doesn't mean we need to pay Lee 15M per year.
Why?
Because watching David Lee give up 40 points per game and win 25 games per year shouldn't EVER be a priority.
