Gilbert Arenas has been suspended for the remainder of the 2009-10 season, according to a source that spoke with the Washington Post.

Arenas asked commissioner David Stern for the suspension during their Wednesday meeting.

According to the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity, Arenas also told Stern that he would tell the players' union not to fight the suspension.

The same source said that during the meeting, Arenas asked Stern about the possibility of having the remaining four years of his six-year $111 million contract voided, to which Stern replied, "That would be left up to the team."

According to a source, Arenas has intimated to friends, as well the NBA that he no longer wishes to play for Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld again.

yea and i don't blame him. he was betrayed by someone in the organization.

listen, this was a stupid stunt that he pulled within the confines of the lcoker room, with the people he trusted.

there was a snitch there that leaked it to the media and that's it.

Yeah, I agree there. But this whole situation brings to light the old cliche about the NBA being a privilege not a right, no matter how good one is. Especially when one is sittin' on a 100 milly contract. Damn thats a lot of cheese.

From that little blurb, he seems to be facing this head on and taking it like a man. This was a reflection of ego and immaturity as opposed to this being an indictment on his character. He'll be straight, he's a good dude and a hell of a talent.

If anything he is facing up to it now but he sure as hell was blowing it off at first.

If Wizards are tying to void the deal its only from his actions that could give them the window. I doubt they really try or succeed. If "sources" are correct I can't blame him for not wanting to play for Grunfeld but thats a luxury at this point. If Grunfeld has done anything wrong he will get fired over this.

Bottom line is GIlbert should join Tiger at the Sex Clinic and rebuild his image.

i think it's BS if the Player's Union allows the Wiz to void out his contract... they took the risks in signing him to that contract, they should face the consequences... the Knicks were stuck with huge albatross contracts & no one came to our rescue... at most void out the final year on his deal as an Amnesty type recompense, but that's it... otherwise they should be stuck w/each other.

I am not A fan of when people say that playing pro sports is a priviledge bc it isnt. Its an agreement. You perform, you get paid the big bucks. Plain and simple.

Gilbert didnt live up to his contract. Maybe there was a prick... or maybe someone freaked out and saw Gilbert with the gun. That doesnt matter anymore. Point is, one person f`ed up and thats Gilbert.

No, I agree with you but when you act like a dumbass and you have that much at stake then you open yourself up to this kind of scrutiny.

That goes without saying. However, based on that long article probably in the other Gilbert thread, Gilbert has a long history of these almost sinister pranks. Gilbert acted like a 5 year old child his whole life, without anyone ever telling him NO. He took this thing too far and its about time he learn to act like an adult. Not a child that can act however he wants, when he wants.

he's a little eccentric but he's a hard worker. sorry if he didn't fit your mold of Perfect Human, allanfan. okay, having four guns, four guns, regardless of where you keep them, is a little overboard, but the guy is a genius of sorts, man.

He may have had guns, but he was living in DC for crissakes. Did you ever watch The Wire on HBO. That place is hella scary.

Doubtful the Wizzies can void him. If he lines up a new team, I bet he would accept a VERY discounted buyout to make up the difference. He's certianly better than Duhon.

Our whole system is based on risk and reward. What is the risk to the players when they sign a contract? None. To me that's not right. The team assumes the risk and the players get the reward. Some risk must be shifted to the players. NFL type contract? I am not sure and I am not a lawyer, but this system is broken, see Eddie Curry.

My conspiracy theory:

The Wizards will have their appeal to void the contract denied.
The players association will be happy about that.
Players 1 Owners 0.
Then in 2011 Stern, on behalf of the owners, will claim that NBA contracts need to be limited to 4 years with only 2 years guaranteed in order to limit team's exposure to circumstances the Wizards unfortunately found themselves in.
The players association will strike or be locked out... but eventually capitulate.

The other thing that could happen... if the contract does get voided.... that means 80mil divided by 30 teams... the salary cap could increase almost 3mil on Arenas back alone!

Hell, with the Supreme Court we now have he can probably get Stern's ruling declared unconstitutional before the season is over.

there's a few shady areas of DC, & then there are some real nice areas... i'm guessing Arenas wasn't living in the SE section of DC where all the crime happens... i get nervous just driving through there... reminds me of Memphis, for real.
