If this is true, and Cleveland was rumored to be talking to them.

What if the Suns just want to start over and Amare for Big Z and a pick does them good?

That might end the LeBron sweepstakes right there.

Just speculating...

If Phoenix is willing to swallow Jared Jeffries' contract, I'll pack David Lee bag's myself. Lee has improved offensively but he's no Amare Stoudemire. Lee is still a weak link defensively - Drew Gooden ... DREW GOODEN ate him up!

But argh, Stoudemire's injury history scare me to death.

And no way Steve Kerr makes that weak trade for Zydrunas Ilguaskas. I think he might make it for Lee.

Lee isn't tradeable though because he loses his bird rights (which seem to be very important) and if he doesn't like Phoenix he could just up and walk away for nothing next year.

So then they just traded Amare for Jeffries.

The reason I mentioned Z is because of his contract. If the Suns are truly dumping Amare then they are rebuilding and want cap space. Cap space and a pick for a player who will just walk away for nothing at the end of the year could be enticing.

Cleveland could throw in a kid as well but I don't think too highly of their youth. Not sure anyone does.

The Suns trading Amare isn't going to be a talent for talent swap.

I am so happy the Knicks aren't in the running for this crippled bum. What a disaster that would be. The Suns, they've been somewhere between blowing the team up and trying to win since Kerr got there. Where is the direction of this club? I don't think they banked on Steve Nash continuing to play so awesome balling! I pity the sucker that bites on Amare.

Amare isnt a salary dump. Look for him to go to GS for a solid package of youth. Cle has no young chips. Their talent pipeline is crap. Lee's durability and smaller price tag make him more attractive than Amare.

Also Lebron is coming here for stardom big city reasons, not because of his supporting cast. Unless we were totally bankrupt of talent it might be a factor, but a resigned Lee, Chandler, Gallo, Douglas, Hill and even JJ on defense as a roll player with MDA coaching is a good situation for Lebron to start in. Thats a 2nd round or finals team easy, and thats only year 1. Use JJ/Curry's expirings and you might be able to bring in another bigtime player.

Not to mention that Amare is not exactly a defensive asset either. No way I trade Lee for a guy who will ride the bench in street clothes for part of every season.

Lee is a keeper at this point (assuming the numbers work out). I think he will be amenable to making a solid fit if he sees the forthcoming chip that would result from a Lebron signing. No way the Knicks are going to be active at the deadline unless a smart move involving JJ/Curry is possible. Amare is NOT such a move as he is prone to getting hurt.

This guy is one hard blow to the head from having an eyeball fall out and roll on the floor. He should play with a helmet. Plus no defense. It's like a high-flying David Lee for double the price.

Exactly. We should stand pat unless we dump JJ or Curry and get back something really solid.

do you think the Jennings' evaluation/miss is really pinnable on MDA? And not either Donnie or the Knicks' Euro scouts?

MDA wasn't responsible for evaluating Jennings.

I'm being a bit extreme.

But Mike did see Jennings in person. And shouldn't he have said to Walsh - hey, Duhon isn't the PG of the future, this kid could be?

Now, granted a difference between judging Amare with whom Mike has a long working relationship with, and some kid getting drafted.

But, I think we've seen instances where Mike's eye for talent has been, shall we say, lacking.

I wasn't suggesting for the Knicks to trade for Amare.

I was speculating what if he did land in Cleveland? What if he played well for them? Cavs would have his bird rights so re-signing him and LeBron would be of no problem cap wise for them.

Amare's been going to GS for like 2 or 3 years now, if I remember correctly. Amare goes to Cleveland the whole plan changes. That happens I am looking to trade for 2 or 3 2nd tier guys (maybe you can get guys like Rudy Gay(and Steven Hunter exp.)-Chandler/Duhon/$3 mil- and Al Jefferson(and Rubio)-Lee, Nate, Filler- ...).

You have Jefferson locked up another 3 years, you lock up Gay to a good contract, you should still have some room to make moves and possibly start next year with:

Hill
Jefferson
Gallo
Gay
FA PG/Rubio

And that is what happens when you intentionally dump talent and refuse to make available trades for good talent, in order to get a shot at a guy like lebron.. sure, they got what they wanted, but they were mired in mediocrity for years until lebron matured.. So no good picks, no talent, and just lebron.. when he leaves, if he leaves, that team is junk..

I think the better question is can we get Nash ??

Successful Trade Scenario
Congratulations on a successful trade.
Due to New York and Phoenix being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. New York and Phoenix had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Now you resign DLee, Nate and cash in on a FA, doesn't have to be Lebron.

C = HILL / rookie contract
PF = LEE / 6yr 65mil
SF = GALLO / rookie contract
SG = WILL / rookie contract
PG = NASH / 1yr remaining on contract

Nate / 4yr / 24mil
Landry / vet minimum

Next year you have expirings of Curry and JJ plus cap room to sign a max FA or 2.

Are you trying to get another thread locked. Suns are not trading Nash. The Suns are acknowledging that Amare may not re-sign and want to acquire assets instead of losing him for nothing. Even if the Suns would trade Nash, Hughes and Douglas wouldn't get the deal done and their is next to no chance that the Suns trade Nash to NY. Even to get Amare would cost Gallo and Will--at the very least-- and I still don't think the Suns trade him to NY to be with D'antoni.
