For me - not that badly. Nothing about him he's great. But I became a Knick fan in the Frazier, Barnett (then Earl), Bradley, Dave D., Reed time frame. They had stars but not one guy that was so big the other guys were after thoughts.

For me the ideal case would be the Knicks young guys improve and they add players to the mix over the next couple of years that add to the mix - but don't dominate it and get over the top that way. Not saying that's the best plan - just that I enjoy watching teams where the players are on more even footing and I enjoy watching teams improve over-time.

Now if Lebron ends up in NY I know I'm gonna be excited but...

how many of those guys made the HOF (no nba HOF...)??? those teams had between 3-6 guys who would eventually be inducted into the HOF. the only team i can think of going back 30 years that didnt really have a mega star (or 2+) was the pistons (upset over the lakers). i wish we could get by on whats around, i just dont see it working too well.
GO TEAM VENTURE!!!!!

The Knicks need Lebron. NY needs Lebron. The NBA needs Lebron in NYC.

This must happen.

Lebron is young enough that you can still build around him and with our lovely cap situation, we'll have 2 years to get that done. You have to do what you can to add him, cuz it only takes 2-3 great/very good players to be a title contender. We've got enough young talent to fill in around him. MDA is proving that you really need a solid 7 and you can win. The rest can be cheap pick ups like Landry or Bender and you can get it done.

I wouldn't die if we don't end up with Lebron, but in my lifetime, which spans from the 60's, I believe this is gonna be one of the last chances I'll get to see this team get a player for the ages. I mean it's like saying you wouldn't have loved to have drafted Jordan. Just cuz we're getting him as a FA, doesn't take away from his being a Knick. Heck i'm a Yankee fan and from Reggie all the way to now it's been a staple to have added key FA's to the team along with some key home growns.

This has to happen. Clyde frazier said If Lebron comes to Knicks he will not only be the "king" but he'll be King of basketball.

NY could actually end up with the best player in the NBA and playing for knicks.

NY has never had the best player in the NBA playing for them. This is the only chance.

This has to happen..

I really think this is a Shaq to LA type scenario. Shaq left a team that went to the finals. He could have had a career side kick in Penny. There wasnt a single basketball reason to go except that Shaq was Shaq and he and LA needed each other.

Lebron isnt going to the Brooklyn Nets. Thats not even a team. Messier wasnt coming to NY to play for the Islander. He's gonna be a Knick. The King playing in the Mecca. I really think he buys into all that.

I hope it happens. I also hope that it happens with Lee, Gallo, maybe Chandler, Douglas... I do hope this team has a home grown feel to it.

You know, I feel that, you know, it's not the end of the world if Lebron doesn't come. I am all for being patient and maybe even waiting until 2011 for an awesome signing because we have a good thing going here. Would be perfectly ok if Lebron doesn't come, you know? Because, you know, we have Gallo, Ill Wilson, and Toney D. and J. Hill. Good things are happening, we're firing on all cylinders. And, you know, it's well known that I view Gallo as a future All-Star, MVP, team-leader.
WE AIN'T NOWHERE WITH THIS BUM CHOKER IN CARMELO. GIVE ME STARKS'S 2-21 ANY DAY OVER THIS LACKLUSTER CLUSTEREFF.

well... you also thought Darko was a star in the making. Gallo is a really good prospect who is playing well but has a ways to go.

Lebron is the ball sharing star that makes everyone look better. Lee, Chandler, Gallo.. even Douglas will look like all stars playing with him.

If you want to go at it from a BB perspective the Knicks w/ Lee, Gallo, Chandler, JJ, Douglas, Hill are better than the Cle roster. Better GM and better coach.

Old Fan,

Your memories in the day before free agents are good ones. Only threat to losing players back then was to the ABA.

In a perfect world you suck then draft high and get players like Clyde and Rookie of the year Willis Reed who next to Walt Bellamy was one of the top 3 forwards in the league before they moved him to Center. With fewer teams the leauge was full of talent and you could get real players with your second and third picks. The real coming together of that team was trading All star stat whore Walt Bellamy and The sharp shooting Komives for Debussure and trading away Cazzie Russell who was very talented but not team oriented. Somtimes less is more.

I wonder if a team in the modern age really develope a charactor as special as those knicks given all the distractions of today. Back then Coaches and players had much differnt relationships. While Willis was the Captain, it was Clyde who was the QB and I thought got slighted for the job he did. While it annoyed him, did he really ever let it be an issue? That team also had mad respect for each other which I don't know can happen these days. This was the environment that created the most championed coach of all time in Phil Jax!

Maybe had we rebuilt the old fashioned way, which I agree is the best way we could have achieved somthing special, but the rules are different now and we have an idiot owner.

I am a rabid anti starphuch type fan who can's stand star studded over priced players and my patience has been tested in the Isiah years with them (as have most fans!). But the current core of Dlee, Gallo and WIlson are a good mix to support one or two PRIME free agents and perhaps if Lebron can come he can orchestrate his Robin to his Batman. Maybe its Bosh, maybe Chris Paul the year after.

We gotta have hope. I hope we can keep most of your ute's as its fun to watch them develop and root for.

Uh oh, looks like I can shamelessly plug the chart I made about All-Stars & draft picks in championship teams. Maybe I should add a HOF column..

Dude, Kobe was not drafted by the Lakers. He was drafted by Charlotte.

Ya, d00d, but he didn't play a single game in Charlotte. But you are definitely right, I should put an asterisk or something.

Rick Barry Jumped to the ABA and then forced back to the Warriors to fulfill his contract. It was a very weird scenario.

So really, I'd keep Barry as being drafted by the warriors. He was never traded by the Warriors or two the Warriors.
