McGrady's Return To Rockets Is Unlikely

Dec 28, 2009 2:27 PM EST
The Rockets deactivated Tracy McGrady for their two weekend games and his return to the club doesn't appear close.

A pair of sources told Yahoo! Sports that after McGrady's agent, Bob Myers, and the Rockets finish talking after the next few days that the likely resolution will be McGrady leaving the team and returning to Chicago to work with renowned trainer Tim Grover.

Issues between McGrady and the organization intensified when he asked coach Rick Adelman why the team wouldn't increase his minutes. He's averaged roughly eight minutes per game since returning from knee surgery.

"I don't understand their plan," one NBA coach said Sunday. "Why bring him back at all to play eight minutes? They should send him away because it's obvious Rick doesn't want him around."

The Rockets are rumored to be willing to take back long-term contracts to rid themselves of McGrady.Via Yahoo! Sports

though, once again, Real GM completely changes the actual article. if you read the actual article, nowhere does it say the rockets are willing to take back long-term deals. it says they're looking to use the contract to get a talented player like kevin martin:

Even if it is true, nowhere does it say they are willing to take back a fat piece of turd that can't play 3 games without getting injured.

i think our only realistic chance to get T-Mac is to package some of our own expirings that aren't seeing much play... Nate, Darko & Mobley's contract works & saves HOU money, plus they get back a usable player in Nate... we get rid of 2 guys who aren't happy here & gain a potential upgrade at the SG position, we might be able to milk a late round pick out of the deal in exchange for the monetary savings afforded by Mobley's insurance paid contract.

otherwise we'll have to package either Hughes or Harrington into the deal at which point i don't think it's worth the risk unless HOU is willing to toss in that pick.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

So, here is a team that is not playing T-Mac because of chemistry issues...AND...so they are going to take our anti-chemistry guys ala Curry and Nate? Seriously? ah, never mind.

How about this three way:

NYK send JJ, Nate and Harrington to Sactown and get T-Mac
Houston sends T-Mac to NYK and get K-Mart and Kenny Thomas
Sactown sends K-mart and Kenny Thomas to Houston and get Harrington, JJ and Nate

Curry is great if fed the ball. The Houston style of Yao Ming all the time is the same.
Nate, say what you will, can put the ball in the hoop.
Plus he's an expiring.

I'm not down on Nate like most, same with curry. I think they both have a ton of bball in them, just not for the knicks.

Curry is automatic if he can get the ball.
And we know nate's 19 ppg was legit.

They have talent and can provide scoring.

The extra expiring is less about bodies than cap space.

I don't put a lot of stock in the 3 team trade scenarios most often found in message boards.

Are they that common or just fun to think up?

Let's go Knicks. That's amare

Three-ways are not uncommon, but I think not necessary for a trade with Houston. They could use Curry right away, and have him as a backup for Yao should he be available next season. N8 is a solid scorer, and would have to tone down his circus act in a new city in order to get playing time and acceptance. Mobley saves them a boatload of money this season. COnsidering their needs, I don't see why they wouldn't jump at this deal. That is, as long as they are willing to take Curry's non-expiring. We could substitue JJ for Curry in the same type of deal. Or Darko. We have what the Rockets need. They just need to pull the trigger. It's pretty clear they are done with T-Mac.

All that said, I am not sure T-Mac would be a keeper for us. Depends how it pans out. But his expiring would be welcome as long as JJ/Curry are gone from our books.

11.5 mil next year for Fat Eddy as a back up to Yao is not really economically smart unless they want Wilson, which is tough to lose unless we get that Lebron fella.

I think a package involving Chandler and Jefferies is realistic. They're not touching Curry. Especially considering how we've got him glued to the bench.

I think the point is to rid themselves of the diva types and continue to build team oriented play with good chemistry. Last time I checked 6-8 All Star shooting guards weren't exactly growing on trees. Why would they want two immature me first I don't have to play defense or listen to my coach now just give me the ball players in Nate and Curry. Seems to contradict the whole point of trading T-Mac in the first place. That's all I'm saying.

BTW - you shouldn't put alot of stock in trade scenarios on message boards, newspaper, the internet, blog spots or anywhere. Just pointing out a possible trade scenario that would seem to benefit all teams involved and in which the numbers all work under the trading guidelines for teams over the cap. Please carry on though and discuss your trade scenarios which are obviously much more realistic and bound to happen

I used to hope Ariza could become a McCrady type ... now he's ousting TMac, himself... for Houston ... I love this game.

You're right, it's not. But an $11 mil. expiring contract in is kinda nice....especially if we throw in say, $3 mil?

Daryl Morey, Rockets GM, is not going to take back almost 12 million in 2010 salary when they plan on being a player in free agency. Kevin Martin fills a need for them at SG. Eddy Curry is USELESS.

Give them Hill, Curry and Mobley.

Anyone who has any objections to this deal is not a Knick fan. And please don't say we don't need to give up anything for Tracey, because we are clearing 14 million in cap room. This is a great trade for both teams. Hill doesn't play and it allows us to sign two max free agents. It gives them cost savings of almost 9 million to offset what they pay to Eddy
