Knicks not remotely interested.

Gallo is a shooter who's is a fan favorite, , Randolph is a superstar in the making.

Anthony Randolph went home to play the hornets tonight and already he had 8 blks in just three qtrs.

Danphoney doesn't like defense oh well, I would make that swap quickly.

Nellie to Turn Randolph Loose

By Marcus Thompson
Monday, December 21st, 2009 at 5:34 pm in Uncategorized.

Warriors coach Don Nelson said he’s going to unleash Anthony Randolph.

Nelson has been waiting for Randolph to grow and get ready for what he has in store for Randolph. He said his stint at center has helped make him a better PF. And now that Biedrins and Turiaf are on their way back, he’s ready to open up a can of genius on Randolph – if Randolph can handle it.

NELLIE: “You ain’t seen nothing yet. He’s going to be a blessed guy if he can mentally prepare himself and handle what I’m going to give him. Because both he and Radmanovic has the ability as a big player to handle the ball and to make it difficult for the defense to match up with us. As long as he grows and matures and understands what we’re doing — and it was a very good practice (Sunday) for him — the sky’s the limit on how I can use the guy and go to his strengths.”

Randolph said he’s been told he’s going to handle the ball more and initiate the offense. Until recently, the last 10 games or so I think, he was relegated to back-up center duties. But lately, thanks to injuries and his improved play, he’s been given more and more rope. Once told not to shoot because of his propensity for ill-advised jumpers, the staff seemed to have confidence in his ability to stick the midrange and pull the opposing center out of the key. They also have more confidence in him driving up the court, which used to be just shy of an automatic turnover.

NELLIE: “I’ve always expected a lot of him. I think he’s right on schedule. What I’ve been able to do with him as a back-up center and be creative that way has now opened the door for him to be a four and do the same things and have a better understanding. It’s very easy to do what I want him to do against fives. They don’t guard you, they don’t get into you. I think now he’s ready to be a four and do some of the same things, so we’ll see. But I’m excited about seeing how its going to work.

“I’d say over the last month I’ve been working with him. Certainly I thought his best games were when I did that. We did that Orlando. We did it in San Antonio. Those guys better know they’re blessed, because there is nothing more fun for a player to be in control of the ball and be able to make some plays. I think he has the ability to do that.”

Randolph was actually pretty lucid about his new situation and the prospect of more minutes and more responsibility. He normally doesn’t say much. But he was able to mix in some basketball philosophy while making sure people know Nellie hasn’t given him anything he hasn’t earned.

RANDOLPH: “It allows me to do a lot more with my game. They told me they were going to allow me to have the ball in my hands a lot more, initiate the offense and make plays for my teammates. … I’m just playing basketball. Whether he’s telling me to go set pick and rolls or just handle the ball a lot more. … I’d say the only downside to that is me being out on the top of the floor with the ball a lot more is that I don’t have a chance to offensive rebound as much as I was able to in the past. … I don’t think he gave (me this opportunity) just because he wanted to. I think that I kind of, over this season and last season, I’ve shown him little by little that I can handle the ball and make plays for my teammates.”

If he's awesome, why does GS want to trade him?

Why would they want Gallo for Randolph? It makes no sense -- but its so crazy that it might just work

Randolph has a ton of talent but Gallinari is a much more polished player. Gallinari will never equal Randolph's physical gifts, but who knows if Randolph will ever get his game together on a night in and out basis?

I would want another player in the swap, like Anthony Morrow.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

I am not sure how much juice Nelson still has in Golden State but Gallo is definitely a Nellie type player. That would be the only reason I see the Warriors make this trade. Gallo is also D'antoni's guy so this move would be made by Walsh if it happened. If there is any long term question regarding Gallo's health this would be a no brainer. If his back is fine it is hard to say what would be the right thing to do.

You know what is funny about GS? They start 3 guys 6-3 and under and don't have a PG. Randolph has a tremendous amount of talent--I think his progression stalled from injuries at the start of the season and they rewarded him with an unknown role. I think he will catch up a bit here but they cant let Randolph be the only big? When Randolph starts pulling down 12-13 rebounds with 17-18 points 3 blocks 4 assists in the next 12 months--then we can start gauging who is what. Gallinari is more advanced physically with more experience and a year older. Gallinari needs to learn what a mid range jumpshoit is and keep himself in rebounding position. Forget about so many 3's and he'll be a good player. If he wants to take 8 3's a game he avg 5 rebounds and shoot 42-43%

Trading Gallo would be the last straw for me. I will find a new team to watch if this ever goes down.

Here you go again, playa. Gallo is going to be the next Larry Bird. You don't trade Larry Bird.

Larry Bird was already LB when he was 18. Don't compare anyone to Larry Bird. No one is saying trading Gallo but I think there are many really really good players in that 2008 draft. Even when Larry Bird was falling apart at the age of 35 he still had a season Gallo could only dream about.

is that from hahn or you? sounds like you.. superstar in the making? please... this guy shows nothing that shows heis a superstar in the making..

anyway, I am with the knicks... I say no to this deal... we have enough dummies on this team.. and Randolph is a dummy!

now, I would take him for a lesser package not involving gallo....mitigate the risk.... but can't give up much for a guy who is lacking upstairs...

Thanks for stating that BRIGGS. I hope GoNyGoNyGo was just joking. Bird had skills Gallinari could only dream about, actually that most players could only dream about. No comparison.

tkf, I can't read Hahn anymore but I watch and follow basketball and I can tell you that Randolph is a future star. I don't know if I would trade a healthy Gallo for him but I wanted him drafted before Gallo in June of 08. I don't think there is anyway this deal goes down with D'Antoni as coach. If Walsh is tiring of D'Antoni, wants more d, or is concerned with Gallo's health he might do this deal. This would not be a bad deal for the Knicks but if Gallo is healthy it might be a wash talent wise and Gallo fits D's system better.

so if you won't make the trade and you say randolph is a future star, then that must mean you think gallo is a future star.. I am a huge gallo fan, but I don't see star in either guy.. I think both can be special in their own way, but stars are guys like lebron and wade and kobe.. these guys are not on that path.. now again, I guess it depends on how you define star. and I watch a lot of ball, I watch the warriors games, almost all of them, because I am following curry.... randolph has a lot of talent, but doesn't have a basketball head.... that is the difference in being a real player, or a guy who will forever have potential...

I can see gallo as a great second option if all goes well for him, and that would be fantastic for the knicks... you know, a true sidekick to a guy like lebron..

right now,I don't know where to place randolph.. really..
