In his article entitled "Knicks win over Blazers would prove D'Antoni right on Nate benching" Marc Berman argues that Nate is the reason why we were losing so much. Now look, I hate all the side drama and histrionics as much as the next guy but Nate is not the one to blame here for losing. Does Marc Berman remember that Nate Robinson was also injured for a significant amount of time earlier this season and yes, the team was still losing?

This all reminds me of Ewing last two seasons here. There were scores of people who said getting rid of Ewing would unleash the vaunted early offense lead by Sprewell, Camby and the boys. Many said that Ewing was the reason we were losing. And yet getting rid of Ewing plumeted the Knicks so far into obscurity they are still trying to regain the success of the pre-Ewing-trade days.

Bad form Marc Berman, bad form.

I think Nate's benching is less about what it is or does, and more about a message to the team that they have to all step to the plate and play hard, and try on defense. Or else.

It's not Nate 100% but his lack of D replaced by Hughes and TD's very good D does make a difference. This team doesn't need great D to win! It just needs good D in stretches and that's what has happened without Nate. His loose attitude is infectious and TD's intense D is positively infectious!!!

This team gets solid play from Al, Lee, Hughes & Gallo right now. So long as we get either Duhon or Chan to also have a good game we will be competitive. If both play well we're hard to beat.

I agree. The recent surge has more to do with Duhon playing better than Nate. However, I do agree that Nate lacks focus on defense and commits too many turnovers and as Berman noted, he probably does goad the opposing team to play harder with his antics. I think he does deserve to get into the game, but I can understand MDA's decision. Maybe benching Nate is boosting Duhon's confidence.

The media is blaming Nate. I think the coaching staff is just asking him to step up his game. He's not being slighted in anyway. He's not entitled to a spot in the rotation. He needs to earn his spot just like everyone else. Right now, he isn't.

Nate also is underestimating the presence of TD! This kid is hungry and since he plays so much harder on D it really makes Nate look bad. Nate may be a bit better offensively but TD is a better fit and of more value on D where we need the most help. Nate may be down for a long time.

Whenever Nate plays 19 minutes or more, we have no victories. When we win, its not due to any Nate heroics. We win games when Nate is off the court.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

We're winning games recently because we're not chucking over 30 three pointers a game anymore.

The losing is all Murbury fault.
Nate is innocent as any infant... he doesn't know what he is doing so how he san be at fault.

Duhon is playing better (hitting clutch shots and distributing the ball) and N8 never did shyte on D. But I agree, the benching was all about the "message" to the team. Seems it might finally be sinking in that these biatches got to EARN their minutes (i.e., they get the money whether they play or not, so the real management currency is minutes).

I think the shorter rotation, better play from Duhon, and the better d that Hughes and Douglas provide are the reasons for more team success recently.

A lack of wisdom overshadowing talent it would seem in this case. Time and a place for everything. Have fun...but not at the expense of your teammates or the next possesion. There seems to be some truth in comments that Nate inspires the other team to new heights.

duhon has been terribly inconsistent. the one thing that's been consistent is that when nate plays over 19 minutes this year, the team hasn't won. when he's played 19 or fewer minutes the team is 6-6.

that's pretty damning for lil nate. he might just be a player you can't win with.

So does this mean Berman is going to now be Nate's special friend?

It's becoming obvious, to me at least, that Nate is a novelty act with no value to a real basketball team. He is horribly undersized and mentally unstable. His dunking and showboating are interesting to only the youngest and simplest of fans.

It's sad the way that a murderer facing the death penalty is sad-- brought on himself and not deserving of any pity. So not sad at all.
