So far, NBA general managers are still passing judgment on their own teams, evaluating needs and slowly, surely feeling out the market. The February trade deadline is more than two months away, but conversations are beginning to gather momentum.

Blazers point guard Andre Miller could find himself on the trade block beginning Dec. 15.

For starters, multiple league executives believe the Chicago Bulls’ shopping of forward Tyrus Thomas(notes) could result with him moving sooner than later. As Thomas has rehabbed a broken forearm, the Bulls have had discussions with several teams, but perhaps none as serious as the ongoing dialogue general manager Gar Forman has had with New York Knicks president Donnie Walsh.

Several sources believe the Bulls are agreeable to a package of Thomas and Jerome James(notes) for Knicks forward Al Harrington(notes). Thus far, Walsh has resisted parting with Harrington, but discussions are still active and the teams have explored different combinations in recent days that would ultimately deliver Thomas to the Knicks.

“Nothing is imminent, but both sides would like to figure out a way to do this,” one league executive briefed on the talks told Yahoo! Sports.

The Bulls are determined to shed more salary-cap space for the summer of 2010, and believe Harrington’s ability to score coupled with a $10.2 million expiring contract make this a worthy exchange. Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni has long been fond of Thomas, a 6-foot-9 forward whose nimbleness and athleticism makes him an intriguing fit for New York.

Thomas, 23, was the fourth pick in the 2006 NBA draft, and started to fulfill his promise with 10.9 points and 6.4 rebounds last season. Nevertheless, Chicago believes it has a worthy power forward successor on the cheap in rookie Taj Gibson(notes), and jettisoning Thomas would also eliminate his approximate $13 million cap hold for the Bulls next season.

Thomas’ agent, Brian Elfus, tried to negotiate a contract extension with Chicago, but talks never pushed past perfunctory.

Here are other teams that front-office officials, coaches and agent say are active in talks.

Unless Jared or Curry is taking a ride, I don't like this....

Just play Jordan Hill!!! Same type of player but with better moves inside and a jumpshot...Unless the Knicks aren't planning on re-sgning David Lee, cuz then it makes total sense.

Shouldn't the thread title have been: "Knicks trying to re-acquire Jerome James"???

Ok...so since nobody chimed in yet...

Tyrus Thomas has been getting chump minutes in Chicago. Thomas is all athletisism...but he can shoot it and he can dribble enough to get to where he needs to go...He's like Kenyon Martin in alot of ways...anyway...If you give Tyrus Thomas Lee's minutes you might get comparable production...and thats 16 and 8 but with elite level defense.

Enter Jordan Hill...Hill and Tyrus on the same team the Knicks get better defensively. D'antoni just has to let go this Wilson Chandler love affair at the 4...also the Duhon infatuation....

Tyrus
Jordan Hill
Gallo
Toney

Not bad....on the other hand what are we doing building youth or looking to build around 2 super stars in 2010???

Tyrus Thomas would be a nice addition, he's young and COULD turn into an Amar'e type in MikeD's offense. If all we're giving up is Al Harrington, I'm absolutely all for it. Atleast Tyrus plays real hard.

Tyrus is shockingly inefficient from the field for a guy who plays in close. Not Jared Jeffries bad but pretty bad. He's not that special a player.

But we should get something for Al Harrington. He should be very attractive at the deadline for a team that needs scoring since he's not gonna cost a team anything beyond the end of the year.

I agree.. I think we should at least try to dump a contract if we're trading Al

not sure if I want to add salary , even if it is tyrus thomas. His game has really improved, but for me, there has to be another move to shed jeffries salary.. and if we do this, we do lose a competent scorer in harrington and his expiring deal... if the bulls want to shed salary then why not include a pick from their end. a protected first rounder would be fine by me..

Mega trade RealGM Trade ID #5308279

Wilson, David, Nate, Jared and Mobley for Tyrus, Brad Miller, Pargo, and Big Game and draft picks

Knicks dump Jared and his extra year...They find Nate a new home...Lee can play his natural power fwd with his boy from Florida Joakim Noah...Wilson can go hypnotize another franchise with his potential

Bulls dump all useless players...

Knicks lose talent but they have players on the Squad that can fill in...Pargo can be Nate, Tyrus can play power fwd with Jordan or just play center with Harrington at the 4...Brad Miller can come in and just play out his contract with his slow ass.....Marv gets his daddy back...

It's a win win situation imho...

why not offer harrington to wash for mcgee and James--less cap hold+ expiring and we need a 7 footer--wash could use harringtons 20 points and 6 reb off the bench.

13 mil caphold will seriously hurt the bid for Lebron...does Walsh already know he is not coming?

Exactly, and in case some of you have been napping in this MDA era, he needs a big man that can shoot 3's..

If David lee had range, real range, he could easily avg an extra 6ppg. There's a lot of times he is just ridiculously open at the top of the arc, but has to wait for the pick.

The ideal guy to play the 4 in this system is gallo once he get stronger

TT looks like an older version of Hill

Hill has a better stroke IMO. Hill has better post moves too. Both play with lots of energy but Hill may one day be able to stroke 3's for real.
