Oklahoma City Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti announced that the team has assigned center Byron Mullens and guard Kyle Weaver to the Tulsa 66ers of the NBA Development League. Weaver, who played two games for the 66ers last season, has appeared in two games for the Thunder this year averaging 5.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steal in 8.0 minutes per contest. Mullens, the 24th overall pick (selected by Dallas) in the 2009 NBA Draft, was acquired by the Thunder in a draft night trade. Mullens has not appeared in a game for the Thunder this season. The 7-0 center averaged 8.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in one season at The Ohio State University.

i wish we would do this for Jordan Hill if he's not gonna be seeing minutes... seeing him wasting away on the bench while Fishlips gets burn is too painful to take.

TMS, I think he will get more minutes, though maybe not right away. I think MDA wants to work him in gradually.

all i know is every time i see Hill get minutes he produces... he shows a nice touch from the perimeter, he shows good aggressiveness going after rebounds, & he shows a willingness to stand in the paint & try to block or at least alter shots... in 5 minutes this guy will put up more than Fishlips does in 20, & he still can't get playing time.

until the trade deadline passes i don't see anything changing... MDA is gonna keep playing Jeffries in the vain hope that he'll find some sucker GM out there willing to take him off our hands... in the meantime if Hill's not gonna see minutes, i say let him get burn in the D-Leagues & see game action.

It would make sense to have Hill get minutes and keep improving. It doesn't seem that teams use the d-league like they should even though rosters were expanded to 15.

Hard for him to do this, because in order to defend Mullens (and Thabeet for that matter) he would have to use the same rational thought process that he has been unwilling to apply, so far, to Gallo, Hill, or Douglas when evaluating them as NBA players.

Mullens should not be playing in the DL though, he should be playing out his sophomore year with Evan Turner, the Ohio State, underclassman who should have left early, while Mullens remained, leading the Buckeyes to a final 4 appearance.

You can't compare Mullens to Hill. Hill is farther along than Mullens and going to the D-League wouldn't help him as much. Yeah, it would help him some but he can help our team now (as we have seen). Hill is practicing against NBA players and that is helping him more than playing in the d-league imo. Mullens came out early and has a long way to go, he can use "the minor leagues" for sure. He might have been overwhelmed and not getting as much out of, or helping enough, against NBA players in practice.

Besides the fact that Hill is a better player (now) you have to be careful damaging a player who was a lottery pick by sending them to the d-league. (Regardless of if you agree or not).

When you get a guy who needs PT--who needs development--why not use this league as it was intended to be used? It's better to play than watch. Maybe Jordan Hill should play 5 games down there if Mike D won't play him.

To a point, but the level of competition in practice alone in the nba is better than in a d-league game. Jordan needs time but learning the pro game, in particular the speed (as we saw). I think that is a good example cause we can see that he is adjusting there.

I'm sure you are smarter than Sam Presti--tkf your posts have gone downhill--you used to be a pretty good poster but you seem to have taken an antagonistic angle with some rather absurd view points.

maybe you get good experience being with nba team instead of d-league team. hill, right now, is soaking in the good stuff that pro life offers. the experience, the juice.

This works very good in hockey.
But NBA is too big to have useful secondary league.
Reduce it by a couple of teams and this may work too.

If a guy is close to playing you need to keep him with the NBA team. He's going to get far better experience at the NBA level in practice then he will going against competition he played against and proved better then in college. However in our situation there is no leadership and I am of the opinion that if our guy is not playing you get him as far away from the veteran antics as possible
I just hope that people will like me

I heard that it was rumored Kiki Vandeweghe knew that Mullens had a pre-existing D-League issue before the draft.
Heard it on ESPN.

He was drafted as a prospect, I don't think anyone thought he was even near to being a finished product. Mullens has a world of natural talent to work with- but he really could have used another year, or maybe even two, of seasoning at OSU. Big mistake by him, and any adults advising him to put himself into the draft this year, IMO.
