the media game that is...

he talks to kidd but nothing materializes.
talks to grant hill...ditto.
talks to sessions...ditto.
and now it's iverson.

probably never wanted any of them...but is creating some buzz in the papers to make it appear like he's trying to *improve* the team.

when he says "20"
you say "10"...

He's really one of the strangest GM's I've ever seen in any sport.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

He's one of the smartest I have seen. Every move has been carefully considered, and in the end every single time he has made the right choice. He just says "talk to the hand" when confronted with the angry mobs of disgruntled fans and their media blowhards. But he is focused on our future, and thankfully remains so against all odds. There are no guarantees in his plan, but we have already seen a decade of what making rash decisions to placate the "base" can do to our team.

Slow and steady, no impatient moves, and we will all be stoked once this thing gets where it's headed in 2011:

Rubio/TD
Wade/Chandler/Drafted 2
Lebron/Chandler
Gallo/Hill
Darko/Drafted 5

...or how about...

Rubio/TD
Joe Johnson/Chandler/Drafted 2
Lebron/Gallo/Chandler
Bosh/Gallo/Hill
Darko/Drafted 5

Possibly AH or other mid level role players in the mix.

Patience and perseverance.

Yeah, his brillance is in doing nothing. Like when he failed to trade Nate and Jeffries for cap space. Or, when he failed to secure a higher pick for Rubio or Curry. Or remember that time when he failed to properly scout Jennings and let our PG of the future slip right past us. Y'up, Walsh is focused on the future alright. His future retirement.

You are so right. I don't like the games he plays. What is stoping him from playing the same games in 2010? We could have sign Iverson and had an option to end the contract if he messed up or came with his posse. They are dumping this season and the way Walsh is doing it is the same as throwing games.
I don't like Mikes system. This team just might be the worst Knicks team in its history.
These young players we have just ain't that good. They can't shoot or defend. Walsh all during the time he was at the Pacers he never won a championship and went to the finals only one time.
So much for Walsh big time plan. If we don't get Lebron Jame in 2010 Walsh needs to resign. I feel like we've been played once again. I beleive Walse never had any intentions of bringing AI here.

Apparently it's not on Walsh - he wanted to sign him...
from the times:
After reporting a "90% chance" of signing him, the New York Knicks have decided not to pursue Allen Iverson for the 2009-2010 season.
Team president Donnie Walsh seemed sold on Iverson but objections from coach Mike D'Antoni and chairman James L. Dolan swayed the decision. D'Antoni and Dolan cited Iverson's volatility and believed he would be too great of a risk to team chemistry. So much for Iverson giving fantasy teams an unexpected boost next week, although he could end up with another team soon. But the Knicks sure looked like the perfect place for Iverson this season.

You go right ahead and wait till 2011 or even 2015 or 2025. I've been waiting over 35 years for another championship and it has'nt happen. So I just look to enjoy the games. What we have here is pure garbage and that is why Lee didn't get an offer and he is one of our best players. Man this is New York and it is a disgrace what Walsh is doing. He is playing the waiting game and it don't his way then what do we do?? Just wait and wait and wait and wait. I ain't in the mood to watch rookies lose 60 games this season just to give them experience. I wanna win games.

I'll grant you he missed the boat on dumping JJ & N8. He couldn't move up for Rubio because he had no way of knowing he would slip to 5. Given our roster, I am not sure he could have moved up under any circumstances. And Jennings busted out this season, he didn't have a track record of being superb. It's way too early to say Hill is a bust. And we may end up with Rubio after all.

I was really only referring to his non-moves on the old guards this season. I don't think he is a genius in all respects. But it was smart to not sign Kidd/GHill/AI. Flexibility now > winning now. That's all I meant.

I have been watching the Knicks for that long as well. And I want to be entertained, too. But I see some light at the end of this dark tunnel, and I don't want to mess up tomorrow for a chance at modestly more entertainment today.

Well D'Antoni damn sure better start winning some games with that sorry run and gun offense. He is just protecting Duhon.

You make a lot of good points. However, not drafting Curry or Rubio are good things, trust me homes.

I'm not a huge Walsh fan but you have to give credit where credit is due. Donnie had a small market team in Indiana going to the playoffs every year for almost 20 yrs straight. If that is not impressive then I do not know what is. The things we New Yorkers lack is patience. Not only with sports but in everyday life. In a recent interview Donnie stated that it takes a while to build a contender. How long did Atlanta suck before they reached the playoffs again? Nets, Nuggets, Cavaliers??? I can go on and on. Every team has their drought and unfortunately for our generation it is the Knicks turn. Some teams get lucky i.e. Milwaukee Bucks, but in Walsh's defense no one really thought Jennings would be this good. If so he wouldn't have passed the Grizzlies #3 pick in the draft. The Nate and Jeffries deal would have been great but I still think Jeffries is very tradable. I don't agree on the Gallinari pick but I am sure there are some Gallo experts here that can explain why it was a good deal. At the end of the day we should give Donnie some time. If he gets Lebron in 2010 people will call him a god.

I am so freaking sick of this god damn team. Even if we get Lebron next year, we'll still suck. My Knicks related depression has turned into numbness and apathy. Thank god for Alba...

I have no problem with patience. But Walsh's patience is not leading us anywhere. I mean, unless he lucks up and gets Lebron this summer (which I cannot believe he has more than a 15%-20% chance of doing), then really what have we accomplished. We created cap space, but we have no superstar. We missed out on Gordon, Lopez, Jennings, Curry, and a slew of other quality players to draft Gallo (whose back now appears to be a chronic injury) and Hill (who I like but don't think he will ever be a all-star player). We still have no first round pick this year. I mean, Walsh is pretty much putting all our eggs in the FA signing basket.
