Frankly, I will be disappointed if I read anything more about Eric Gordon or Brook Lopez in the comments section.
The Knicks passed on Karl Malone and took Kenny Walker. Get over it.
And while we’re at it let’s not get too crazy about the 8th pick not playing yet. I have no problem with waiting on a 6′11 athletic forward to develop. Hill will have a very long career here.
With all the talk about leadership and the direction of the franchise, what is clear is the fact the Mike D’Antoni wants Danilo Gallinari to carry the mail.
The coach wasted little time but inserting the prized rookie (which I consider him) into the starting lineup and the kid did not disappoint nailing 8 threes.
I guess we don’t have to worry about why he was lying down the other night in Carolina.
What I have observed about Gallo has been the fact that he is too unselfish and often defers to the veterans, much like Eli Manning did when he first became a Giant. But it was a game in Philly a few years back where Eli broke thru and led the team to a road victory. At that moment I knew that this would be Eli’s team regardless what Tiki, Shockey or Strahan had to say about it.
And so did Eli.
I believe that Gallo now is ready to step forward and be the franchise and all the players, aside from maybe Al Harrington who is a pure fit as 6th man moving forward, need to defer to the rookie and make sure the offense runs through him. He should take 18-20 shots per game and have the ability to create.
I think we’ve misinterpreted Gallo’s inconsistent preseason in terms of not being healthy, I truly believe that his hesitation was based on respect for his veteran teammates.
They need to understand, though, the future of the Knicks rests on the shoulders of number 8 and he’s ready to show NY, like Manning has done, just how impressive a young leader can be.
It’s his team now.
