Despite Al Harrington playing well he barely saw time in the second half (if I recall).
Despite Darko torching the Heat on 2 low post moves....we never saw it again. Yes, he banged his knee, and Mike said there was no reason to risk him, but I'm talking in general here. Why not go back to that play! Did we see it in the first place because the Knicks decided to break from the chuck and duck for a few plays? Was it even planned? Probably NOT by the coach.
Despite being BLOWN OUT BY 30 POINTS WITH SEVEN MINUTES TO GO (yes, I must shout), Douglas, Hill, and Landry were still ON THE BENCH.
We're losing that game no matter WHAT but Mike really wasn't sharp at all. Was he too high watching Gallo hit threes to remember he had an entire team to coach!? I just don't know but I hated it. I hated the first half chuck and duck. I hated the total lack of defensive commitment (something we all had to know wouldn't stick despite a few good preseason defensive games).
Tied at 46. Down by 30 about 15 game minutes later.
I also was FURIOUS with how they gave up in the third Q leading to Wade and JO dunking on us like it was practice - because the Knicks weren't even running with their man they were just standing and watching them score all with their heads down! INEXCUSEABLE!
Where is the pride? There is none.
Very long season here...another 30-win season...but we kind of already knew this.
For the players to have that "It's a throwaway year who cares I probably won't be here next year anyway." attitude is just infuriating. Do these idiots not know they're playing for a NEW CONTRACT be it here in New York or on another team? I guess not. No wonder why we suck. There's not a brain cell on the entire team.
I did not think our D was that terrible the first half, but our intensity and focus seemed to vanish in thin air in the 2nd half.
As for Darko- he showed us a nice hook with with either hand, and then did nothing on the inside. He seems to have some accuracy with the lefty hook- why not see how much we can get from him with it before looking somewhere else. He should be fast enough to get down the court and establish position for it. He should not be taking any jumpers at this point, by the way.
Darko also has some great hands when playing man to man on D, and is a much better passer than I expected him to be. I just hope he can remain injury free.
The team needs a floor leader- someone who can lead by example but also get in the face of guys who are not performing like they should. The mental mistakes are annoying- the lack of intensity really upsets me though. I think this is why Garnett has meant so much to Boston- he is the kind of guy who would not let this happen if he was on our team, IMO.
Defense is all about pride and intensity. I think you saw some of that in the first half, but when the Heat turned on their burners, we did not rise to the challenge.
